Well, I think the saddest part is all the people who yell at you, "If he's a terrible gamer, kick him from the table! You don't need a guy like that in your life!" without even thinking about the repercussions on other people involved.
But I am amused that the only one willing to walk was the youngest among us (now brilliantly playing Tussle the gnome gunslinger, might I add). He just said, "Yeah, I don't like playing with WW so I'm not going to."
Sensible kid. And he could get away with it...

By the way, for those of you that have my cell number and wonder why I'm not replying back to texts during the day, it's because I had to switch cell carriers. The new carrier does not get a consistently useful signal into my office.
My office was a bank in the 1960's, replete with granite-covered steel i-beams in the main floor area. My part of the suite is the furthest point away from the windows, and the walls of my office are made with clay brick and steel mesh reinforced plaster.
And the wifi is restricted for use by clients.
I'm effectively sitting in a Faraday cage.

Albany is basically late 1920s tract housing, which means every wall is done in lath and plaster, and almost all the exterior walls are stucco. We live in an entire city of Faraday cages.

So, you're saying construction and mad science have a lot of crossover.

By the by, you seen the latest season of The Magicians?WARNING: The Magicians is daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaark television.
It's like, "What if Harry Potter took place at college and later, and the messed up things with magic fundamentally ruined almost everything it touched, but was also super necessary to those who had it?"
And by "dark" I mean, among other things, "magical gods are real, as are monsters, and evil magicians, and generally such creatures revel in their own power and do not care about your consent or well-being most of the time for anything whatsoever" - and all that goes with that.
This forum post is still way too long.

Have no idea if either of you'll love it, but if you like mad science and construction: SciSchow has a video on several weird future construction materials currently being studied. It's really cool stuff to consider the possibilities, even if the actual function isn't there.
Also super hype about the idea that we might someday literally be living in seaweed, fungus, and bone cities. I mean it's just so daggum cool.

OK. Inbetween now and Call of Cthulhu at 19:30, I need to work out why a dissipated jazz musician would want to join an archeological expedition to Peru, and why the heck they'd let him on if he did.
The best I can come up with for the first is that morphine is cheaper out there, and he owes some bad people lots of money he can't pay back; for the second, all I have is that the expedition's organiser was a particular fan of his soprano sax solo on 'Tootsie Got Hot Nuts'

Systems Guy: Vany, I shipped you a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device*. Did you get it?
Me: Yep. When and where do you need it?
Systems Guy: Plug it into the core switch and let me know which port. I'll have the network guys take it from there.
That was 2 weeks ago. I physically set it up the next day.
Yesterday the network engineer asks me to confirm which port it's plugged into. He sees network traffic on the port we told him, but he's not sure it's the NAS device.
I confirm.
Systems Guy gives him additional unique identifying info (MAC address) to help him out.
Network Engineer asks me again.
I confirmed. I added that while the core consists of multiple switches, each with Port X, that this was the ONLY switch in the group that had ANYTHING plugged into Port X.
And he asks again.
I reiterate.
And again.
I really don't know how to make this any more plain. There is a device that I can physically see, touch, pick up, lick if I so desire. Yet he's just continuously asking "Are you sure it's plugged in?" while simultaneously sending us screenshots of the proof that there is network traffic flowing, so clearly it's plugged in. And turned on. And he can identify the same exact unique identifiers that the System Guy gave him as proof as well.
I don't understand how these people keep qualifying and getting hired for these high paying jobs that require logical thinking when they can't understand A=B, B=C, so A=C. Even Freehold will get that, regardless of his hatred for the mathematical expression.
*In the simplest terms, it's a hard drive with a network port. It can be seen by the other computers on the network.

Tiny T-Rex's plan on becoming Spider-Man.
1. Make a spider radioactive
2. Make sure he's bitten by said radioactive spider.
3. Make a suit
4. Make web shooters.
5. Move to New York.
I feel he needs to drill down into the details a little more. That's all this is really lacking.
He should research which spiders in particular take to which radioactive materials the best. Cross-reference with which spiders are inherently dangerously poisonous to humans versus "makes you feel sick but you're in no danger of dying". He may have to do his own field research on the subject, so you should probably build him a shielded bunker soon.

(tech stupidity)
In 30+ years of helping people with their computer issues, there are two Great Lies:
(1) "Have you tried rebooting?"
In my lifetime, I have never had someone answer, "No," to this question, even when I could concretely prove they were lying. And then, showing them proof that they were lying, they would argue with me about it.
The worst question in the history of computing.
(2) "Have you checked all the cables?"
At least on occasion I get the truth from someone ("No"), but it is always followed up with, "But I haven't moved anything," as if the universe is a static entity and nothing ever occurs without this individual's direct action. I suppose I should be worshipping such a deity, rather than heaping scorn and derision upon them.
=====
(And yes; over 95% of all computer issues I help people with are solved by one or the other of those two solutions. But it always has to be *me* who does it, because they won't, and then they think I'm some kind of miracle worker with computers because I fricking follow instructions!!!)
