Day 1 of 3 of convention (yesterday was day zero - packing, travel, and setting up the stall). Today was finishing set up, seven hour of sales (with 1 hour for eating/going around, which I saved for the end so I was free at 8 pm instead of 9), and hanged out for a short time with Gorbacz and his wife.

My feet are hurting now :(
9 am to 9 pm tomorrow...

*yawn*

please give them my best.

I think we all knew I would be naked for this one.

I forget every year how exhausted you feel after your first full week back.

The trade off though are muscles, so I'm good with it.

If you need someone to carry 8 foot timbers, she's the person.

If there's a litter of kittens hidden on a farm, she'll find them.

And co-worker was happy to have someone that hadn't heard all his stories yet.

Wow..I am impressed by Crookshanks strength =)

And how does she find kittens?

She's a druid.

After watching Enchanted she would sit in the backyard wearing her prettiest dress and sing a few notes and birds would literally flock to the fence behind her.

She'll just pick up random chickens and they'll let her, no struggling.

You see, I thought it was a kind of innate ability, like elves being able to find secret doors.

Have I ever found a secret door?

Have I b!%+~$+s.

A discussion has broken out at game about how different the Harry Potter movies would have been if Samuel L Jackson had been cast as Dumbledoor.

An update.

Spoiler:
sadly the prognosis is rather bleak. I talked to her primary cancer doctor and he said that unless we have a miracle then we are in the endgame. Too many issues have hit her at once and her breathing troubles and low platelet counts are making it hard to even treat anything else. All in all this is so not fun and she is aware of what is going on and in pain. Sorry for the downer everyone.

I'm sorry Sharoth. *Hugs*

Sharoth:

I guess the only things you can do is to spend what time you can with her. See if she has a want to do things and see how much of it that can be covered. Did the doctor say how much time she has left?

The Exchange

I was following the Spartan race course at the edge and hauled myself over a road divider to get to the park because the Spartans were using the bridge. Later when I get wireless connection and time to, I will upload the obstacles. Currently running off to Sentosa for the coca cola no sugar carnival, where cheap@ss me will probably walk all the way there from HarbourFront to save the monorail fee. Will get there a little late but an extra walk won't hurt me.

Make the most of what you have. It's the best you can offer at this point. Be there as much and as long as you can. Give what happiness you can and enjoy her company as long as it lasts.

I'm sorry I can't offer anything more than some encouragement and a sympathetic ear. Best wishes.

I'm very sorry to hear that, Sharoth. *Man Hugs* We'll be here for you.

Clocking out. Good night, everyone.

Orthos said it well enough that I have no desire to try to write my own version. As long as she has awareness, just being there will be better for both of you.

Take the time you need. We'll be here.

A character died in tonight's game, and I was "helping" the player think of possible replacements. I suggested a Strix, which he turned down because "We're underwater, I don't think the wings are going to be very useful." I said "Hey, maybe you can get the GM to let you have penguin wings instead."

So now we need an intelligent penguin race.

Wernk?

I think penguin folk would be more of a variant of Tengu, really. >.>

Also inquire about options of sleeping in her room.

It's the Endgame? Give her Cap's shield and fire her into space to fight Thanos one last time.

Seriously though, sorry the end is so close, it's harder when you've fought for so long.

If you need anything, Freehold has my new number.

Also I ran along the beach road 5.6 km total carrying a sling bag with water and food in it, to the various gamestations, so I'm now red like a lobster and pretty flat.

Ah! I figured out why it took me 1.5h to cover 5.6km, it was all that queueing at game stations!

But god, the 5.6km felt like a lot longer >.<

Thanks cap and mort.

Could we just take a Tengu, put it in black tie, and teach it to look tasty to sharks? That might be the easy way.

Sharoth:
Of all my friends and family to pass on, the "best" death was our long-time hiking buddy, who was dying of ALS. When he knew he was on his final week, he invited all of us from all over the country to visit him. And there, we sat with him, telling stories of good times we'd had with him and positive ways in which he'd impacted our lives. He couldn't speak during any of this, but the sheer joy and gratitude in his eyes was enough to know how important it was to him. Each of us in turn hugged him goodbye, held back our tears until we were out of the room, and let him go.

It was the "easiest" death of all for all the survivors, and I like to think he passed on feeling that he had led a full and rewarding life.

So I suggest trying to do the same for your mom: Invite anyone and everyone whose life she's impacted to visit. Make it VERY clear that she doesn't have to speak, or move, or interact in any way, because otherwise it'll exhaust her and make her miserable. Instead, people just come in, sit by her bedside, and tell her stories of her life.

It worked really well for my friend, and made his passing much easier for all of us.

Good luck! We're here for you!

I'll be doing something similar in september. Called Mudmasters. Its a thing at my new job. I'll have to do some training.

Day 2 out of three done. Tired. At least I got a hotel room practically for myself - my room-mate ended spending nights with friends and returning in the morning. I don't know when he'll return tonight though there are hints that it will be in the morning again.

Tomorrow 7 hours, followed by packing the stall and another six or seven hours of going back to Krakow... And unpacking on Monday to return the van :/

I think I killed my lawnmower.

I used to do a lot of cons and faires helping friends out with their shop. I did it for the free entry (and an hour or two free time) of the event, sandwiches and food. It can be hard to start your own business.

Although now that I'm getting older, I am happy they are doing so well now that they can afford personnel. Especially when the weather is s$*%. Although I do miss the camaraderie.

I set up for landscape conventions in Seattle and Madison.

Learning teenager slang is fascinating, though so far Crookshanks isn't impressed with our alternatives.

That's really cool, Woran. It's good for company bonding. I think Spartan is more hard core and my company ain't crazy enough to do it. Also my company has older peeps, I'm the youngest there. My fitness buddies though... One of them already went for Spartan and there are talks going around.

Mudmasters training plan suggestion

I don't do off track running so yeah not sure how it'd go, but I know I lack upper body strength(you did hear me whine about my pull up right?)

Also I can't do monkey bars for nuts. All that rock climbing has made me more confident about getting over obstacles - you heard me about the road divider yesterday, right?

The Exchange

That's the reason why I paparazied around the Spartan run... It was a scouting mission to see what we'd be dealing with. Granted following them, since they were using the main road and I was trailing at the side involved walking through some slopes.

I opted not to jump over the drain because I was carrying a sling bag and didn't want the weight to throw me off, though had I not been carrying anything I should be able to jump over the drain np.

Ask N.H. I should most emphatically not be trusted with a scythe.

It turns out that I'd only flooded the engine by overpriming.
Which (Miss Marple moment here), I suddenly figured out as I was texting my sister, "As Dad would say, [lengthy string of redacted expletives]"... and I remembered the time the old man broke two fingers by continuing to yank on the pull cord of the outboard motor on our dive boat long after he had flooded it.

So I got the lawn done.

However, I didn't get finished until long after my neighbors across the street had started the party they were having in their own front yard.

Funny, they didn't invite me over for a beer after I'd put the mower in the garage.

Well this hasn't been a great night so far. Got in the car to come to work, it wouldn't start. Had to call a tow truck for a jump, pay $70. Hopefully it starts in the morning (I let it run for about 20 minutes after I got to work), so I can take it to get tested. With my luck that means I'll need to buy a new battery. No idea why it was low on charge. I hadn't left any lights on or anything. Then I finally get to work and check the schedule for the week. I was supposed to be taking some vacation time next weekend, I put in for it over 6 weeks ago, but find that not only do I not get the time off, but they have screwed with my normal schedule. Which means that I won't get to go with my parents on our annual trip for Dad's birthday, but that all my other plans for the week are screwed.

Whee.

My 8 year old came up to me today and said "Dad, what starts with 'f' and ends with 'k'?" I said "No, it doesn't."

My friend does two impressions: Matt Damon and Hugh Jackman. Maybe he's Bourne with it, maybe he's Wolverine.
