Sigh.
Just had a >.< day at work. Like trying to prove how some panadols that we bought had 4 months till expiry(the vendor was asking me what panadols, I was like dude, check your emails I sent you the product code and a picture showing the short expiry), and my outlook was taking hours to load while someone was chasing after me for archive stuff(which requires me to look at outlook).
When I finally opened my mailbox(after getting fed up), using Office 365, I found quite some emails waiting for me to respond to.
Then there was this door I was complaining that I had to kick open, and I sent a picture of the fault to building maintenance just to get building maintenance complain they couldn't see the picture(I bet its my outlook issue again).
Then my BF was suddenly asking me to get Gold Class tickets for Avengers End game...I was like what the heck? That stuff is overpriced!
Not that we could anyway - since all the tickets are already sold out.
Then I missed out a players turn in PBP. Epic screw up, Mort, epic.
Just venting.
I am sorry to hear about your day going wrong mort. I hope that it improves.
Back at the hospital after going to work for an hour, then falling asleep at my desk for a few.
Sharoth, I admire your positivity in the face of adversity (in your opinion) and sincerely hope that your friends can take turns to help out in taking care of your mom. And you can get more sleep.

Mort, this is sadly not my first rodeo, just my worst. Between my step-mom's cancer that eventually killed her, my dad, my ex's neck surgery, and a few other people I know getting sick or going through surgery, I have learned to take the bright side when possible.

Today is take your child to work day! Tiny T-Rex is going with the General to her work, and Crookshanks is going with me.
Sadly, she's still too young to run a chop saw, but at least she gets to watch her dad run one.
I hope that both the kids have a great time today, cap.

Today is take your child to work day! Tiny T-Rex is going with the General to her work, and Crookshanks is going with me.
Sadly, she's still too young to run a chop saw, but at least she gets to watch her dad run one.
(1) My kids would *love* me to "take them to work" if it meant just letting them hang around at the house all day.
(2) My office generously offered to allow 30 kids on campus today. Considering the campus is two buildings with several thousand employees, that number seems... low...

What I have experienced with family is that, when the fluid was drained from around the lungs and they could breathe better, the mental clarity improved quite a bit.
Which, no, didn't do much for the chronic conditions they were dealing with, BUT, it did make it easier for the family members who were helping them.
I'm so sorry you're going through this. Big hugs.

Well, today is going to be "hard".
I was somewhat under the gun because we were expecting to start testing for the next version of the product on April 22. Obviously that didn't happen. But I got all my stuff turned in on time. This week I was supposed to catch up on all the back burner stuff that wasn't going to make it for the April 22 deadline. I just finished all that.
And we've been told our testing has been pushed to at least the beginning of May.
So... it's Thursday, and I have no foreseeable work for at least a week. I'm not the kind of employee who's good at sitting around idle. I suspect by Monday I'll be going stir crazy trying to find something to do...

Wow... working with government computer systems is... depressing.
Selective Service can't handle hyphenated names. Er, they've been around for centuries, people! The DMV won't accept special characters in their passwords. And on, and on, and on.
That simple string cleansing is beyond most government web sites is just out-and-out depressing.
And lazy.
So "string cleansing" is just taking what the user typed and making sure it's safe to pass on. Typically you're just going through and replacing any special characters, making sure the length is OK, and so forth.
It's really, really, REALLY easy, and takes no time at all.
So sites that don't do it depress me.
EDIT: I forgot to mention the voter registration page that didn't believe Impus Major was 18 until the day AFTER his birthday. It's a less than OR EQUAL TO operator, people!!!

Weather Underground was initially a grad school project for Jeff Masters in the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences in the Engineering Department at the University of Michigan, in the early 90s. It was a dial-up, menu driven service which allowed you to get text versions of any US Weather Service forecast by typing in the appropriate airport code.
I've used them that whole time, and , for weather geeks, their Scientific Forecaster Discussion "with abbreviations" is truly wonderful.
And yes, it was a play on the name of a previous University of Michigan student group, with a slightly different mission.

In less relevant news, Shiro found a new food delivery service that is now two-for-two in delivering the correct food.
Which makes them better than every other delivery service we've tried.

Y'all remember a couple of months ago when Whingey Wizzard had three levels of interviews for a job with a company that he really wanted to work for, and they told him at the final interview that they really wanted him, and then they picked someone else for the job?
About a week and a half ago, they called him and said, "Yeah, so we're sorry about that, but we have this OTHER position open up, and we'd like you to resubmit your materials for this one. Oh, and btw, it's director-level."
So the interview is this morning at 9:00.
If it goes well, second-round interviews will be Monday, and whoever they pick will start May 1st.
Part of me is pissed off because I'm just assuming he won't get it and they're just d**king us around again.
But the job really is kinda right for him.
I don't want to get my hopes up again. But, geez, this would change EVERYTHING.
UPDATE:
Although the second-round interviews were supposed to have happened on Easter Monday, they just emailed Whingey Wizzard *yesterday* to say, "Oh, yeah, btw, you've made the cut for the finalist interviews, we'll let you know when that will be by the end of this week, 'kay?"I'm guessing they're no longer looking at a May 1 start date for the position.
If some of the same people are involved in the interview they may feel like they don't need to continue interviewing him, but that's in a good way. "He's our guy unless one of these remaining people blow us away, and then we'll talk."

What I learned about Crookshanks today.
She arm wrestles sophomores for their lunch money, and wins.
If you need someone to carry 8 foot timbers, she's the person.
If there's a litter of kittens hidden on a farm, she'll find them.
And co-worker was happy to have someone that hadn't heard all his stories yet.

Back when my sister used to act professionally, she auditioned a number of times for a BIG S.F. theater company. Since she had acting credits at Oregon Shakespeare Festival on her resume, and a couple of indie films, it wasn't that big of a stretch. She kept getting called back to read lines at the final round auditions, but never got cast. She finally heard from someone who wasn't supposed to tell her that they found her really reliable and useful for running lines opposite the men they were considering for roles, but were never actually going to cast her.
So, it's quite possible that WW's the guy this company calls in to say, "Yes, we've considered other qualified applicants" when they had someone else earmarked for the job all along.
