So it's time for Orthos's Apartment Hunting Headaches Part 3!
Just got off the phone with the credit company wondering why, after yet ANOTHER week of waiting after submitting my latest application because the first one apparently didn't go through, I still had yet to receive a response beyond the form-letter confirmation email of "Yes we received the paperwork this time".
Turns out the rep I spoke to last time left out a very crucial tidbit of information: that it takes their company SEVENTEEN DAYS to process an application. And this is just ASKING FOR THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEBT! I dread to think how long it's going to take them to get the documentation of said debt if I choose to contest, or to acknowledge and file the contesting, or do anything!
I don't expect to have an apartment before September, presuming one is even still available then, at this rate. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.
Wow, all this hassle just to RENT an apartment? Unbelievable.

Also, I had never noticed that Larry's ex-wife is played by Kate Mulgrew, aka Capt. Janeway of Star Trek fame.
Now of Orange Is the New Black fame.

Well, the hassle is because apartments won't let you rent if you have an outstanding debt with another rental institute - you're considered too much of a risk. Thankfully they don't look at student loans at all, or I'd be even more out of luck.
The landlady at my would-be new home has been nothing but helpful, though.

And done.
It's back to the sett to finish up some woefully late freelance work and prepare for a convention where I ended up being the PFS coordinator. I'm kinda glad we have low attendance (basically one table per slot), but I should be prepared for walk-ins.
I'll be back on Monday with a slightly lower SAN.
There will still be a monster up tomorrow. It might be a short entry, though.

Ah, I missed that part. I guess since they see you as a high risk renter, they don't have to hurry to get your case resolved. Bleh.

Well they're two different companies. The one giving me trouble is a credit company who either represents one of my old apartments, or has bought the debt from them. The other is the apartments I'm currently trying to move to, and I've had no problems with them as I said, other than "oh, you have a black mark on your credit, afraid we can't approve your application" and sending me to work things out with Company 1.

Yuck. And company 1 is certainly in no hurry to help you out.

Good morning all and sundry! Hope everyone is well today, had a good night's sleep, and has a great day ahead. The weather is up and down, high and low, bright and dark. Heck, as long as it's dry, I can work with it. Ah hell, I'm Irish, I can work with the wet too. Onwards!
I hope today is excellent for you! And I hope today is an excellent day.

So. I'm playing hooky today. Getting new computers at work tomorrow. I needed a day to get my sleep schedule back to normal and take care of some other things that have been floundering of late, I figure this is the best of both worlds.
I hope your sleep schedule is perfectly back on schedule, and I hope that things improve for you in any bad areas. I also hope the new computers are faster. I know how "new work computers" can be.

Pretty much, yeah. I mean, I understand it takes time to get information together, especially if you're having to fetch it from other companies and confirm identity and what not. But seriously, in this day and age, seventeen days?
I still think they are trying to screw you in some way. Probably by just wasting your time to get you to hurry up and pay a debt you don't owe.

I wouldn't be surprised, I was warned that they'd be more interested in getting the debt paid than actually solving the situation. Still, you think if that's their goal they'd be quicker to actually present me with the bill.

They're trying a bit of a bullying tactic and hoping you just pay up. There's a lot of companies that do it. That's why they get cagey when asked for a bill; they've been caught and they're hoping they can delay long enough you pay.

There's just one problem with that tactic - no bill, I have no idea how much to pay.

It's simple... they want you to ask them how much to pay and trust them on their word.

Duke's improving! The vet's bloodwork determined he had pancreatitis (ignore spelling). Usually, the disease requires treatment or lesions start forming on the pancreas. Somehow, his immune system fought it off. He's off pain meds and won't need antibiotics unless he starts getting worse again.
We're all relieved at this news. Even my dad, who refers to Duke as "rotten dog."

It could be a bullying tactic. More likely, it's due to poor record keeping due to the company changeover. I remember the previous management company of the apartments, and they weren't exactly... professional. I wouldn't be surprised if the company is having trouble locating everything to even estimate how much Orthos owes.

Just as I'm poised to become old enough to be a productive member of society, society moves the bar higher.

Translation: "We don't want to admit we're old, so we're going to keep redefining young to feed our delusions of being hip and with it. Yes, we know what it is. Silence, youngster."
Bah! I avoided that problem by being born old and getting more and more childish as the time passes.

Personal Names: When interacting with other races, xenopi respond to being named by their favorite color (or combination of) and geometric patterns, like Blue-Triangle, Green-Dot-In-Yellow-Circle or Red-Purple-Green.
Is that acceptable grammatically in English? Or should it be "or combination of them"?

I'd go with "combination thereof" - but I have a tendency to gravitate towards the formal when I'm "teaching" something.
