Huzzah! Having family close is a huge plus. Something we missed when Charlie was born, but will be thankful to have with the arrival of baby Katie.

I don't recall you mentioning you had picked out a name.

Hmm. Maybe it is time I tried some Cornish hens...

I made some this week, on a bed of wild rice. Nommy.

Saw Thor: The Dark World last night. It was pretty cool.

Did not recognize Christopher Eccleston at ALL.

Why must you tempt me so?

Rainy rain here.

Sounds like there's quite a bit about around the country.

Saw my first rugby league game last night. New Zealand Vs Papua New Guinea.
The Kiwi's did a hakka, very cool and relatively intimidating from the huge players. The first half finished in a flash although the 40-0 score might have been responsible. Whilst the second half PNG managed to score twice and it was brilliant. Making a 56-10 final score.... then it started to spit.

DSX got me on a Queen of the Night aria kick today. So far, I think the boy sopranos are the best.

I guess it's actually "Der Hölle Rache" sung by the poor Queen of the Night.

Silver Crusade

Did you ever give a listen to "O zittre nicht", the other aria for that character? It starts out more lyrical, but there are some great fireworks at the end.

*grumble-grumble*

Second week with parents... If there were only third room here... *sigh*

Or if at least attic had solid floor allowing it to be used as a extra room instead of fragile, isolation covered surface.

I see what you mean, CH. I also discovered Lucia Popp, which is making me happy.

I wish we could hear the original the work was written for. I need a time machine!

Are you also irked when someone starts criticizing system or setting for being inconsistent and implausible and as examples he provides lists of things he would know that are consistent and explained if he bothered to actually read about them?

I can see how that would be irksome. Thankfully I've managed to avoid most of that with my group.

Life's too short to worry about stuff like that.

Ooh, butterflies!

I might have forgotten to mention it. Katherine Elizabeth. The Katherine comes from wife's paternal grandmother. The Elizabeth just sounds good.

I'm probably gonna call her Katie. Or Kate. Or Kate Cat! Or Kate Kat!

Except when I'm angry with her. Then I'll call her Katherine Elizabeth.

MMmmm....candy bar.

Scarab Sages

Damnit! Now I'm hungry!

Scarab Sages

Wife's eating the second half of her Subway sammich for dinner. The boy's got a grilled cheese sammich mommy made for him.

That leaves me with....not much.

I'm not feeling the love here.

Scarab Sages

And so! I must away! A quest to find some tender vittles for my empty belly!

Gimme a break....

Exactly! One of my formerly favorite candy bars. I say formerly, because I no longer eat them - the commercials annoyed me so much, I stopped.

No writing done today as predicted. If I only could guess lottery numbers with such accuracy...

I don't watch enough TV to get bugged by commercials these days....

And with the recent turn of events re: Google+, that may start to become true for Youtube as well.

300 some odd posts. Sorry I'm not going through them.

I hope everyone is doing well! :)

So, what's the story here?

My grandson got his first broken bone playing zombies on the monkey bars. I don't hold this against the public school system because you'll get this with 5 year old boys, but what really pisses me off is that on his first day back my daughter delivered him to public school with a note from the doctor that he couldn't have outdoor recess or rough housing. The brain surgeons at his elementary school let him play tackle football outside at recess his first day back in a cast. Of course he broke his humerus even worse, and he required surgery to pin and rebuild the bone. They have pretty good insurance, but they are still looking at expenses in the thousands, and the school says that they have no culpability in what happened. He came through the surgery fine, but my daughter is done with public schools for all her kids at this point.

I feel her pain. She is looking for a lawyer, but they are all telling her they don't want the case case at this point.

WTF!?

How can the public school have zero liability in this case?!

*facepalm!*

GGggrrrrrrr!!!

Seriously!

WTF!!?

The ending of the second book in the The Deeds of Paksenarrion trilogy kinda makes A Song of Ice and Fire seem like a feel-good read. :O

hi everyone,

welcome back BT, sorry to hear about your grandson

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Sunday!

The poor wife is also suffering from a cold. Unlike me, the poor dear is limited in what medicines she can take. I feel bad, since she likely caught it from me. Of course, I got mine from Charlie, so it's really all his fault.

Last night the boy was climbing over me and said to me...

"You're killing me, Smalls."

I was so proud.

Scarab Sages

Have I also mentioned how he likes to blow on my coffee to cool it off so I can drink it?

Scarab Sages

I'm starting to think he's got a few mythic tiers in AWESOME!

BT, that sucks. But I'm glad to hear the boy's arm is doing better.

Gotta go for now. Have a good one.

If you're ever looking for something really out there, look on YouTube for clips of Mado Robin. She was an opera singer back in the 1940s and 50s with a ridiculous range. In lots of arias where singers traditional add high notes, she would add an even higher note (sometimes a 5th above what is already outrageous). It sounds downright inhuman.

Here is a lousy recording of her singing an excerpt from Lucia di Lammermoor. Be sure to listen through the end, and I do not recommend listening to it on headphones.

Kajehase!

I think I will be trying the Flying Jacob tonight.

I will hold you and your country responsible if this bizarre combination of ingredients does not come together into something delicious.

For your sake, I hope it's good, Kaje. You do not want the wrath of heaven descending upon your country.

Silver Crusade

I saw that lynora liked it. Like she mentioned, I will be cutting the recipe in half. I also plan on using unsalted cashews instead of peanuts, just because that is what is in my cupboard. The consistency and flavor profile are similar.

What a showoff!

Somebody likes high notes. But this is a nice source list of great sopranos.

Callas has a tendency to look slightly deranged when she hits those high notes.

Agreed. I have to admit, the Montserrat Caballé clip is stunning.
