Also, a friend whom I asked in an e-mail for a loan called me to ask me to meet him on Tuesday to discuss that loan.

Well, the positive fact is that he didn't say no.

I might be a bit desperate to get money.

Thanks for the condolences guys. Browsing Best Buy now.

Found a nice quality Toshiba with a decent sized hard drive at a reasonable $300. Comes with Win8, but there's apparently a thing you can download and install to make it mimic older Windows versions, which is good enough for me. (I'm aware of the lousy battery time of Toshibas; not a major loss to me, as I'll be doing the vast majority of my use at home.)

Gonna go pick it up on my lunch break tomorrow, then spend the evening getting stuff transferred over.

Silver Crusade

Good luck with it, Orthos.

Classic Shell? It restores Start menu and makes the interface closer to older editions than terrible mistake that was the tiles.

(And Freehold, that's cinnamon-PEAR, not cinnamon-BEAR.)

In other news, a pot of tomato sauce is on the stove, simmering away with sausage and meatballs in it. My kitchen smells like garlic, and I am okay with that.

I want my cinna-bear!!!!!

Not sure what's considered good battery time for a laptop, but my Toshiba usually lasts about 3-½ to 4 hours without being plugged in.

My laptop's battery will last about 20 minutes, if the wifi is off. If on, maybe 5. I'm fine with that for two reasons. First, I never use it when I'm not near a plug. Second, the poor battery life is why I got it for free (the library my mom works at was going to throw it away, but the boss said I could have it).

I want to look like James McAvoy, damnit!

It's days like these where I wished that weekends were longer...

Delayed, Happy Birthday. Hope it was a good one.

*in other news we swapped campaigns yesterday. From our desert party, where we were competent (even if our enemies were hilarious - giant spiders, slithern, giant slugs, formorians, yuan-ti, giant scorpions - thus basically slugs & snails & puppy dogs tails)
To the undead-slaying party, where we have lofty goals but it's impossible to complete them. (Vampires, Dracoliches, Demi-liches, Rappan Athuk, Age of Worms/Wyrms, Orcus). However this party has a few more magic items ¬_¬

Well, just like mine. Except it lasts about 30 minutes and I don't use WiFi. And it was friends who gave it to me, not library.

Heard a great phrase from my Uncle. "Popped up" = to be drunk.

I've never owned one, but my older laptops - HP, Alienware, and Dell - tended to last a bit longer, usually around 6-8 hours if fully charged; I could take them to work, set them up, and they'd last not only the day at work but also the ~45 min bus ride home.

This of course dwindled as they aged, the Dell especially was only going about an hour on full battery at the last before it finally died on me.

Like I said though, not a major issue, for the first set of reasons Gran Rey listed. Sadly I can't say I'm getting mine for free =P Though just barely over $300 is not terrible price for a 4 G memory/650 GB hard drive laptop.

Yep, that's it.

Scarab Sages

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Monday!

Scarab Sages

Watched Ironman 3 last night. While I found it entertaining, I have to say I expected better from Shane Black.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, short and sweet this morning. Plenty to do. Have a good one.

Saw it Friday. I enjoyed it. Didn't have my brain on for it much though but that's standard for movies these days. I'm sure there were flaws, I just didn't care to put in the effort to find them.

Eeep so difficult trying to figure out what familiar to take for my witch. A fuzzy one would be nice and fun, however a raven/thrush could be interesting - then there's the weird and dangerous stuff (like scorpions, turtles, vipers).
So many options and I'm so poor at choosing stuff.

Ooh! Can we have a hedgehog? I love hedgehogs!

Oooh Hedgehog. That'd be nice, snuffling around amongst the leaves. And Spike could nest on top of her bag of equipment to prevent sneak-thieves.

:P

Early estimate: 26th of October, 21:45, start of the Battle Of Britain. In Polish it's literally start.

Off for now. Probably won't be on during lunch like usual due to going computer shopping. Catch ya when I catch ya FAWTLfolk.

So it's the Bristol/ Bath area? My best friend lives in that area at the moment, it's very nice. Just a pity it had to come to that, but it'll be an adventure, I'm sure.

Nope, it will be Norwich. Free lodging and food because I will be living with my parents. While the exact date is estimate based on cheapest possible flight and may change, I should get there before 1st of November when the meat-processing factory in which my father usually works will need more and more workers for November-December rush.

Well at least Norwich is cheaper to live and has some lovely scenery. With many a lovely lady there too.

Good to know. On all counts.

Actually I consider spending a bit out of second or third salary on a camera to make some photos on my free time. Camera in my phone leaves much to be desired.

I thought Norfolk was the part where the ladies would welcome someone who's not their cousin. Or was that Suffolk?

Or should I stop basing my knowledge of English counties on what people in their neighbouring counties say?

Yep, it's Norfolk - where there's towns with 2 surnames* :P

Thus I'm sure they'll be happy to welcome a studley Pole.

;)
*just a joke in actuality, but Norfolk is a slightly isolated county.

I thought you base your knowledge of English counties on information from fellow vikings returning from their raids?

Actually, those might be a bit dated... Like some thousand years dated.

I am not a fighter pilot, though. Not even a bomber pilot.

Morning, all! Still liking this cinnamon-pear bread.

So quite modern for Norfolk then.

I am considering eliminating universalists (or their equivalent as it is 3.x) from my campaign setting.

Pretty sure they were just called Universalists back then too.

I normally only play Spont-casters but the few times I have played a Wizard it's always been a Universalist. I dislike opposed schools immensely.

Actually, they were called wizards then as they were the default form of wizard. The specialists were unusual and referred to by their specialty name.

I'm gonna blame Neverwinter Nights for that then, because I'm absolutely certain that you were called a Universalist when picking your school in the game. Even if the 3.0/3.5 books never referred to them as such we always did.

this is both unfortunate and what I am going for. Its a flavor thing more than anything else.

Wouldn't be much of a loss for me in the long run, that's what Witches and Sorcerers are for. =)

No witches in the campaign setting. Lots of sorcerers though.

BLAAAAARGH =P There goes the only prepared caster I care for.

Yeah...witch and magus are where it's at. Spont all the way otherwise.

Or 3.5 archivist. Can't forget archivist.

Oh allowing 3.5 stuff and/or 3pp stuff just opens up lots of fun new options.

Where can I find info on the archivist?
