Well, I learned an interesting carpentry term today: 'sistering'. It is when you attach an extra support to a joist.

*blink*

In WV it's when you and your sister get caught in the back seat of the car.

Oooh, what's your recipe?

Water, honey, yeast. I vary the honey, since it takes on some of the flavor of whatever the bee hive is near (like and orange grove or raspberry bush). The yeast I usually use is wine yeast, although they do have mead yeast. And if I want some stronger flavor and different color, I'll soak fresh fruits in it for about a week.

Man, that's some f+#@ed up shit, that is.

Game night! Although the boards have been almost as much fun the last couple days.

Sadly no gaming for us this week, except for the last Hollows session on Monday. Too many schedule conflicts over the past few days, so Kingmaker got cancelled.

We'll be picking it back up Monday though, more schedule conflicts next week caused the games to be flipped but thankfully no cancellations.

The Exchange

Considering I keep getting "I'm up, I'm Uzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz." when I try to wake her from her nap, there may not be any for us either. :/

What proportions of water to honey?

Short course for anyone who happens to get Polish meads in his hands:
Półtorak <pronounced somewhat like poow-torak> (literally one-and-half(er), incidentally it also means bastard sword in Polish): for each liter of mead (about three pounds according to page with recipes I am looking on at the moment) half a litter of water is added. The strongest, the best, the most expensive when bought.

Dwójniak <uh dvooyniak?> (Doubler): One liter of mad to one liter of water. Goodies. Usual fare when bought or made.

Trójniak <trooyniak> (Tripler): Two liters of water per liter of mead. Meh but cheap.

Czwórniak <tchvoorniak> (Quadrupler): Three liters of water per liter of mead. Pointless. Really, who would make it anyway?

I heard that some folks experiment by adding vodka or even spirit to the mead during production but I am not sure about the exact proceedings or results.

Wait, what hour it is? What happened with three hours since just after midnight?!

Ah, we just switched to the @#$%!&* daylight saving time. It explains one hour and remaining two I could happen to pass while "just checking" a few things on my LOTRO characters.

Damn that man one less hour to make more submissions for Wayfinder.

Its 11pm here.. I fell asleep. Only meant to nap for an hour or so.. so tired tho.. busy week.

I always mean to nap for an hour or so. And then I wake up two to four hours later, groggy and dizzy.

Hm, Pacific Time is 9 hours later than mine. Which means that I can send submissions until Monday morning. Maybe I'll go to sleep now.

Three hundred words more needed on third monster.
Three hundred and fifty more on first.

Fourth, fifth and sixth monster require 750 words each... I.e. not started yet.

Ok, nighty-nighty.

No sunlight behind the window.

I usually make mead in 5 gallon batches. For that you use 15 pounds of honey (about 6.8 kg). I vary the amount of water I initially use to dissolve the honey into, but always end up topping it off to 5 gallons.

Then around the beginning of May you must either: come visit me in Philly, or kidnap me (and the mead) and bring me to (South?) Carolina.

Scarab Sages

My morning so far has consisted of poop (not my own), coffee, and (soon) biscuits.

And a two-year old who has eaten chocolate....

I'll just let the ominous nature of that statement sink in.....

For those who have ever been interested in mead-making and/or brewing in general I recommend two books:

- The Complete Meadmaker by Ken Schramm
-The Complete Joy of Homebrewing by Charlie Papazian

The first book is strictly about making mead. Lots of good info, especially on my preferred, no-heat method.

The second book is like a bible for homebrewers. I consider it the essential book for anyone who wants brewing as a hobby. When I bought my copy a few years back it was on the 3rd edition. Not sure if a newer edition has been put out since.

Scarab Sages

And, of course, you need a place to get your supplies from. I'm lucky in that Philly is a sort of beer lovers paradise - lots of microbrewers, craft brewers, and home brew stores.

Scarab Sages

This is my gift to you all today - especially the mead info, since it's associated with fertility rites.

Scarab Sages

Just remember - you love me all.

You might want to try add less water and more mead. Just saying. Półtorak requires long fermentation time, however. In fact if you make batch now you will have the time to brew it, test it how it went, start another batch and then drink the final result together with Charlie.

I am no brewer myself, however.

So, poop, poop, and (depending on the biscuits' source) poop?

Happy Easter, everybody!

Any big plans for the day?

We'll be having Easter dinner with my wife's parents, and I'll be finishing up my monster(s) for Wayfinder.

The Exchange

The usual with the kids, egg hunt and all. And tonight some hunting for a runaway noble daughter in an extradiminsional realm once inhabited by the drow before their fall. Now it's overrun with undead and the brave orcs trying to take it back in the name of their renegade handmaiden of Lolth, who now hopes to return the dark elves to their original "glass elf" state.
