I walked into a FLGS this afternoon and looked at the meetup board there.
There was a very long advertisement posted, printed and formed to look like a handwritten scroll. One of the points listed was 'if you write or speak in l33t, don't bother'.
The e-mail at the bottom was 'g33k4l1f3@yahoo.com'.

So glad I've hidden the 4th edition and beyond forum. This way I can continue to live in the belief that most people are nice, usually quite rational people who don't get upset for little or no reason.
Remind me to do that with Erastil threads.
There are some interesting threads out there though, there is a good one on using WWI style trench warfare (adapted for fantasy) as a setting.

Stop trying to lure me out of the cave. I like the shadow play.

Holly Black, in a great post about the usage of the 'Mary Sue' term.
I find this rant laughable, considering the amount of Gary(*sigh*) Stus that show up in fiction and fanfiction. Both sexes do it. As a lifelong(and currently weeping) GL fan, I've seen this on several occasions. Does the term get overused? Sure. But I think the author of that post and the people responding are splitting hairs a bit. Still, call it whatever you want- if you think a main character/protagonist is unrealistic, then say it's unrealistic- me, I know a Mary Sue/Gary(*sigh*) Stu when I see one, and I have no problem saying so.

Any writer who loves their protagonist too much or projects their own fantasies into said protagonist to the detriment of the overall plot is in danger of losing their reader base. I call this the Rice-Hamilton Effect.

they've turned kyle into more of a jesus figure than he was before, and that's saying something. They've turned guy into even more of a right wing ultra violent proselytizing nutcase than he ever was, and THAT'S saying something. But worst of all is what they are doing to John. He's quickly becoming an eternal f##* -up green lantern, like gnort only not NEARLY as funny. He killed mogo. He killed another gl. His reasons for doing so might have been seen as noble if they did not happen within a calendar year of each other and for the exact same angst ridden reason. They are ruining the character, and it's turned gl into a book that I just flip through and b$%#$ about with the guys in the store than actually buy.
And what they've done to the other corps (with the exception of the interesting red lanterns - LOVE YOU bleez and dex -starr!)... Disgusting.

Okay I recognize Rice, don't know who Hamilton is.
Good news: I have tomorrow off.
Bad news: I work Monday.
Pretty sure the boss wanted to give us a day for the holiday but would rather have us work a full day on Monday than a half-day on Saturday.
>wiki on Laurell K Hamilton. A textbook example of what can happen when an author goes off the rails with her main character.

Gimme some nice, shade-producing clouds! Once the temperature creeps above 25⁰ Celsius I don't even like the taste of air. And it's bad for my weight-loss plan, too.
*grumbling, heads out on a quest for ice-cream*
I also get cranky, in case someone failed to notice. *eyeroll*
