Umbriere was built as a noncombatant. and serves to primarily contribute as the face. if i give her such a weakness, it will serve as a reminder telling me not to send her into unneccessary combat encounters. it also helps to reinforce the fact that she is a sickly noble who should have been bedridden. which adds character to her concept and encourages a potential goal to seek undeath.
and even if somebody does try to crit me, there is still a 50% of failure, in a minimum of dim lighting, even to those with darkvision.

that's what the occasional bit of DM fudging is for. a smart DM knows that narrative supersedes rolls.
but here is another dirty idea.
try calculating the combat encounters as if Umbriere were never there, and try not to intentionally make her a target. unless i intentionally give you some kind of cue.

Ditch the concept of XP altogether, everyone levels when you say they level.
I have a Few dirty ideas i picked up from other DMs on these boards.
as a DM, you have the right to fudge, and narrative ideally should supersede the rolls
when calculating combat encounters, treat it as if Umbriere were never there. do not intentionally target her without cue to make it so. it should be easy to find reasons why a sickly noble isn;t participating in combat. a variety of ways her illness could get the better of her
there are ways to gain experience points other than combat
you could even ditch the concept of experience points altogether and say that everyone levels when you say they level.

maybe we can agree to reserve me as a lowest priority target, as long as we agree on things that won't draw too much hostility.
i don't think dancing around like a cheerful child would draw that much ire. and i'm sure that Umbriere's illness, childish appearance, and overall lack of mass would make her even less of a target. and i am sure that no intellegent foe would want to kill established nobility. especially considering the many political drawbacks that could occur.

If I had a character with that low of HP try to play in my games they would probably be dead after the first Fireball or poison dart hits them. If you are self gimping your character so bad at the expense of other stats its your funeral. There is a reason it is called a glass cannon build, or in your case the golden Mirror.

i assume it has something to do with being frail whilst being an excellent face.
i have never played the "Face" before and this will be my first time doing so, and this is a concept i know my saturday DM would never allow.
i just need to know if nonevil pretty liches of the "porcelain doll" variety are allowed. it would be another potential goal and could serve as a way to overcome her illness. but she is self conscious enough for her appearance to matter. so settling for less than being able to pass off as her former self matters. it could be further incentive for her to survive the next 6 or so levels.
If sunset can survive playing a 7 con multiclass bard/wizard with thier frailer 3.5 edition hit dice at levels 1-4, than an 8 con pathfinder single classed bard shouldn't be as bad starting at 5th level. toughness and great fortitude should effectively cancel out the mechanical drawbacks of my con penalty and break even.
what book is the scorpion whip in? i plan on changing my weapon.
i honestly do not know what bard doesn't have a scorpion whip among thier inventory.
i beleive one can attack while doing a bardic performance? i'm pretty sure you can dance while whipping someone from 15 feet away.

I'm GMing 2 PbP games here, playing another 4 and trying to keep the pace with all of the PS3 titles i have left unused because of the lacking of time. I can't start working on a char until weekends, so i'ld need another couple of days.

I live in the pacific time zone (California to be exact).
i am generally unavailable on saturdays (My RL Group) and thursdays (My Counselor), and sometimes i have days where my mother takes me places against my will without informing me beforehand. i will eventually have to add either tuesdays or fridays to this list because of a friend who wants to get his RL group started.

One of the kind of great things about the PbP system is that it doesn't have to be all Immediate! Post NOW! like. Though a simple response, say a combat roll when needed in an encounter, is an easy thing to do once a day. =)
On the time thing, i will be in Germany soon, after or right before we start
also, Lunas i not trying to be an @$$ but really, i know you guys haven't gotten the chance to play with me as a dm before and i wont tell you to change the pc you want to play but i use a lot of AoE and poison, even on low lvl games. the last game i dm ended with the party getting lvl6 fire ball with 3 (mostly dead but not quite) dark stalkers.(*note the party lived and won) in one move it took out 3 out of 4 pc i give a fun but hardcore game.
so this is me saying at lvl 5 with that little hp its not really if you will die, its a matter of how many turns before you die.
(2nd note i am not a hard dm, on bringing pc's back from the dead.)

i would suggest using Baron Maximillian Moonwhisper as a potential tie in. i leave how you tie him into your background up to you. assuming you decide to. i have ideas of a few examples to work with. another exotic bodyguard, Umbriere's tutor, or even Maximillian's Advisor. you need not use these examples but they might work as potential background seeds.

since we are going through the underdark, water won't be too much of a problem. mostly due to the existence of healthy, drinkable, clean, mineral heavy underground resevoirs, and the fact that there is more water beneath the world's outer surface than there is above it.
food may be an issue unless one doesn't mind eating various exotic underground mosses, fungi, and the like. and the drow probably have certain designated edible underground creatures that would quality as exotic delicacies. like gecko eggs, spider meat, and similar stuff.
what knowledge skill would it require to know about various Edible Underground Dishes? Knowledge (Dungeoneering)? or would a noble already know about some of these "Exotic Delicacies"? by virtue of living with a well compensated Exotic chef of some kind. i'm sure that would be an interesting way to abuse the "Lore Master" ability. i'm sure it would be way under DC25 to get a complete list of every one of these exotic underground foods to exist.
i think the moonwhisper family's head cook is now going to be a nuetral good male drow master chef named Xrid't (Prounounced Shree). Xrid't (prounounced Shree) also happens to be a dervish dancing magus who wears a single scimitar at his right hip. Xrid't (Prounounced Shree) also has a black falcon familiar named Shirley who sits perched on his left shoulder. which is very different from Drizz'ts panther companion Gwenwyver. and the guy is also a former adventurer. who tends to specialize in both Subterranian and Middle Eastern Cuisine. a very happy go lucky fellow who will gladly share stories of his former exploits. and a fairly decent contributor to Umbriere's vast well of knowledge.
