Petvar, when you turn around, you feel like you are looking at mirror images of your companions. Weapons previously held in the right hand are being held in the left hand. Facial features on the right side are now on the left side. They, however, don't seem to notice any differences, including the fact that they are now in the room across the hall from the one they entered.

Ive played this as well, and this one is very good, though Im trying to not do anything out of character.
The post where I ask Morthos what he thinks about the rooms should probably be ignored. Id delete it if I could, but I misread sunshadows post before it, so jumped to a conclusion, I fear. Apologies.
Solomon steps up, closer to exiting the room he now stands in. "Believe us now?", he asks of Petvar. "You get yourself all turned around, and think us to be some kind o' monsters. Sheesh!"

Petvar Tarmikos |

Petvar looks at the dwarf with scrutiny, "Wait a minute. You guys stepped into this room... Petvar points behind himself to the now empty room ...and I hear a crack and sizzle and the next thing I know, you guys are coming out of that room." Petvar points to the room everyone is standing in. "Solomon, wasn't your scar on the right side of your face? And wasn't Filios holding his longsword in his right hand and shortsword in his left? And I could have sworn Darren wasn't a south paw, carrying his shield in his right now? Okay, what's going on?"
If I got any descriptions off, please let me know. I apologize if I got them wrong.

I didn't think it was unreasonable to figure out we teleported. That's what I assumed when we saw the back of Petvar. The room obviously is capable of doing something (detect magic), obviously did do something (spinning and noise), but didn't appear to do anything until we opened the door and saw Petvar turned around. But Petvar wasn't in the room, so more logical to assume it did something to us.

The fact that you teleported would be fairly easy to ascertain as soon as you took a good look at the hall, the fact that your left and your right are now reversed would not without a specific perception check or someone pointing it out. The magic makes the new positions seem like they had always been that way.

It's not. But at the same time, you are mirror images of yourselves. Who's to say that you aren't doppelgangers and that the real Darren, Filios, Morthos, and Solomon are teleported somewhere else? When the dust settles, Petvar will get a good laugh out of this.

Darren Roy |

Petvar's response is reasonable. I was just saying I don't think we need to retcon Solomon's questioning why two rooms were built/enchanted to teleport someone across the hallway. It's a fair question, until we figure out that we were mirrored.
On that note, I'm still unclear whether we could figure out by the hallway that we've been reversed or if the mirroring makes us imagine we went in the door on the right instead of the door on the left. I assume Petvar looks mirrored to us? Or does the magic make us forget that he was once right-handed (if he was right-handed)?

Filios |

My brain hurts! lol
Filios steps completely out of the room, reaches up and places a hand on Petvar's shoulder.
Trust me friend, it is me, Filios, in the flesh. There is no way in Calistria's wildest dreams that I am going back in either room. I suggest we all get out here in the hallway as well.

sunshadow21 |

The whole thing with recognizing some things and not others is that something like being on the opposite side of the hallway is immediately noticable. Swinging a sword with the left hand instead of the right hand wouldn't be; either way, its mostly a reflex action. People who underwent the same effects at the same time wouldn't automatically think to thoroughly examine the specifics of their companion's actions because that also would be largely reflexive knowledge.

sunshadow21 |

Nothing further seems to be happening in either of the identical rooms for those who already underwent the effect. If Petvar steps into either room, the sounds will start to build up again, but Morthos can determine through the strength of the auras involved that some kind of recharge time is required for it to effect the same individual again.

Darren Roy |

"We may need to try to reverse it. If everything appears mirrored to us, it's going to be difficult to read or write. I'm going to have to learn to swing a sword with my offhand, because now my shield would only protect me from another fighter's shield. And... it just feels weird!" He shakes his left hand. "This still feels like my right!"

Filios |

GM: So long as there are not adverse effects, i.e. two-weapon fighiting or skill impacts, then I do not have a problem with it. Are there?
Believe me Petvar, I really do not relish the notion of going through that again, but I am concerned about effects on all of us, except you of course. I feel that we may need to reverse it.

Morthos von Janderhoff |

Back-tracking slightly...
Morthos raises his hand to try to calm the obviously agitated Petvar.
"Petvar, I can assure you that I am definitely Morthos. Right before the door slammed shut, I detected an overwhelming Conjuration aura in the room; I would guess that there was some sort of Teleportation effect tied to it, although why it would want to Teleport people from one side of the corridor to the other, I cannot fathom..."
Once the party works out that they have been mirrored, Morthos becomes even more intrigued...
"Fascinating. I wonder what the original purpose of this effect was...?"
He will then spend a little while analysing the aura of the rooms...
"I don't think that we can do anything about it just at the moment; we need to let the energy infused into us dissipate before it can affect us again. Shall we continue to explore?"
Assuming that he does not find any additional information, shall we move on down the hall?

Solomon Wise-axe |

Solomon lets out a long, loud belch. When he finishes, his eyes grow large in embarrassment, "Hehe, apologies. The mead at dinner musta had a bit too much head to it."
He belches again, this time must more quietly. He raises his left fist, and smacks himself in the right side of the chest lightly, as if to try to help any more burps along.

Filios |

Alrighty then, Filios slaps Darren on the back good-naturedly, and laughs as he says, Darren, if you have your left and right straight, let's do as Morthos says before Solomon gets anything on himself, and proceed down the hall.
Filios checks for traps on floors and walls as they proceed.
Perception (traps):1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

sunshadow21 |

The rooms seem to affect each individual every 24 hours, and regardless of what room you are in, after about 4 rounds or so, it will plant a mirror image of yourself in the other room. Given the construction of the walls and floors, you do not think that the rooms are of thassilon construction, so the rooms' purpose were probably a mystery even to the residents of the ossaury.

Filios |

I agree, down the hallway we go!
Filios follows Darren down the 30 foot hallway, checking for traps and stopping at the opening to the room to listen inside for any apparent dangers.
Perception (Traps): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Room Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

This long chamber is decorated with large carvings of religious ceremonies and priests handing down judgments to the common people. Stone benches are lined up before a podium at the southern end of the room. A single door stands in the northeastern wall.
map of this section of hallway since I trust you not to use ooc knowledge.

sunshadow21 |

You can't make out specifics on the carvings, though given what you have seen so far, you can guess its tied to either Pharisma or the rune lords, but the setup of the room suggests its some sort of general assembly area, with the lack of an altar suggesting it was probably used for general church business rather than religious ceremonies.

Solomon Wise-axe |

"What podium are you talkin about? Rooms empty."
Solomon leans over to Darren and whispers, "I think yer friend is goin a little crazy down here."
"...'lack of an altar'..." ;)
"I don' know who specifically this room was for, Pharasma or the runelords, but it looks like it was for general business gatherings, opposed to someplace to give 'sermons'."

Petvar Tarmikos |

Petvar walks over to the podium and says, "This podium."

Darren Roy |

Perception checks and detect magic turns up nothing but a currently empty shelf in podium large enough to hold a couple of the stone tablets from the library.
Sorry, we guardsmen have to stick together! :)
EDIT: Man, I once played a game where the whole party had to be part-rogue. Looks like everyone in this one is part-ninja!

Petvar Tarmikos |

I'm willing to listen, nothing wrong with a little history lesson.
Petvar sits down on one of the stone benches and listens to Solomon give his lesson. "Thank you sturdy Solomon. I think maybe we all could use a short rest." Petvar pulls out some rations from his pack and begins chewing, still intently listening to Solomon as he continues on about the creation of the dwarves.
