They are equal. Aura of faith is useless so holy light wins on that one. BUT, although the ability that replaces spells SOUNDS powerful, well, I just played a campaign with a elf paladin (campaign ended at level 18) and I must tell you that the paladin spells in the APG (most of which are now swift action to cast) are infinitely more useful than the holy light aura power.

If you don't have a cleric in the campaign, take the holy light version and you'll keep your party alive...

If you already have a cleric, use the regular paladin.

One thing for sure: never take the mount at 5th level... always take the weapon enhancement! :) (unless you play Kingmaker, in which case the mount is really useful... it's like the difference between being on foot in Los Angeles or having a car... :) )

First of all, all the archetypes introduced in the APG are supposed to be 'approximately equal' to the Core Classes they modify. Of course this isn't always the case (Invulnerable Rager Barbarian, Zen Archer Monk), but technically speaking, you should never pick an archetype because it is 'better'

That being said, the difference between the Core Paladin and the Holy Light Paladin is that the latter doesn't get to cast spells, instead getting a set of abilities which expand the power of their aura. On one hand, the aura powers aren't great (like a buffed bard with much less duration), and they lack the utility that spells have, while on the other hand, Paladin spell progression is terrible.

Basically, you are replacing a weak and limited spell progression with a fairly weak and less limited Class Feature. It should be about the same.

With one exception. Holy Light Paladins can't cast Divine spells AT ALL, which means no Wands of Cure _ Wounds. This is a big deal, especially if your group needs you to provide more healing than Lay on Hands accounts for. If your group lacks a Bard, Cleric, Druid, or Oracle, consider against Holy Light.

It would help to know what the other players are playing and what sort of campaign it is.
