Cinder Spark |
if cinder passed by the spirit before chord noticed it then i guess he will continue on to where he will get to the noises of combat to see whats goin on
if cinder arrives after everyone else sees the spirit he will wait to see if it is hostile
cinder will attack the spirit if it proves to be hostile
attack roll 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
if threat confirm roll1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
damage 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
if crit this will count as second damage roll1d6 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
DM-Anewor |
Spirit decides who it will attack in order of appearance 1d3 ⇒ 1 Inititive 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
DM-Anewor |
Everyone becomes aware that the spirit is hostile when it makes an attack in a surprise round
The spirit reaches out a ghastly hand that reaches for Chiliam's face. "What have you done with my body, give me back my body, you should have never taken my body!" Corrupting Touch attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
DM-Anewor |
As Chiliam dodges out of the way of the ghosts clutches, Cinder moves up and takes his swing at the ghost, as Cinder swings his sword passes through the ghost as if moving through a viscous liquid creating a sucking sound but the weapon seems to tear away part of the ghosts very essence, leaving it somehow diminished. Chiliam then swings through the ghost leaving the ghost as mere whisps. “My Body….”, moans the ghost.
The ghost swings at Cinder 1d3 1d20 + 3 Touch (messed up slightly through editing was a 3 and 21 touch)
Spining around the ghost sends part of its leg through Cinder's chest aging the flesh around where it touches 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5) = 10 Damage, Fort DC 12 save from Cinder for Half
Chord launches an arrow at the ghost finishing the ghost, which departs with a final moan “I’ll be back… for my body”
The Sound of Combat continues to the south.
Chord |
Chord with a sigh of relief thinks to retrieve his arrow, looks at what the ghost did to Cinder, and then thinks better of it. The arrow may be cursed now.
"Well, we now know why the spirit was here. Anyone have a guess as to why someone would steal the corpse of a common man? Seems quite odd doesn't it?"
hears the sounds of combat to the south and Moves to position (3,9)Doublemove (X,Y coordinates on the map if the black squares are included on the grid), which would allow me to peek around the corner.
"We should help them to the south, er unless they are robbing the graves?"
the thought just occured to him
"We need to see what is going on in either case."
Chord |
This is how i am using my position on the grid map he is using

DM-Anewor |
Leaning around the corner you see an elderly gentleman at (7, 10) who seems to barely be able to lift his sword trying to do combat with three of the spirits, which all appear similar to the one that just attacked your party, that are now attacking him from (7,11), (8,10), and (8,11)
Let me know if you prefer the more detailed position tracking (which I'm guessing ya'll might - depending on how much trouble you think it is to figure out :P
Cinder Spark |

Moves around the corner to position 6,9 and will assist Chilam with the spirit at 8,10. Chord's shortbow twangs a lone solid note sending a whistling arrow toward the spirit.

"Quickly, before they curse him again!"
Notices his companions are not speaking common and wonders if he may be cursed.
"I cant understand you! Curse my gnome ears!"

Haydog moves in to flanking position with the old man, using acrobatics successfully
Hits for half of 10 dmg and discovers ghosts can’t be sneak attacked (lack of vulnerable anatomy and immunity to non-magical damage take your pick)
Cinder Moves, provoking an AOO
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 touch
Cinder Hits for 3 dmg
The Old man takes a 5 foot step to where Chord has marked himself on the map (before he reaches that spot)
Chiliam moves to where he’s marked on the map and deals 8 points of dmg to the one Haydog injured, killing it
One Ghost swings at Cinder 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18, One swings at Haydog 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 missing you both
Chord damages the ghost on the left, which Cinder already hurt for 3 more points
Haydog reloads one pistol and shoots the ghost that attacked him (on right) dealing 7 points of damage
Cinder Strikes the ghost in front of him Critting it (used your 2nd crit roll and assumed you wouldn’t roll a 1 on confirmation) dealing 8 points of dmg, followed by a second attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 Killing the ghost on the left
Chilam moves up and attacks the last ghost 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 1) + 5 = 7 killing the last ghost
DM-Anewor |
Haydog tumbles into flanking position with the old man, who looks none to happy to be there, but is still feebly waving his sword around at the ghosts shooting the ghost only to discover ghosts can’t be sneak attacked as the bullet passes through the ghosts kidney without doing any more damage than any other part of it.
Cinder walks up the left side of the room, deftly dodging the leftmost ghosts attack as it cries “Our Bodies, where have they gone!” before striking the ghost.
Chiliam rushes over, shouting his war cry “Pooe eeeae kootg eeanen kootool namg” Finishing off the spectral remains of Haydogs target.
The Old man realizing that your group is doing something right that he himself didn’t do retreats with a 5 foot step to the southwest. “Ya’ll got this now, now where’s that dang deputy…”
Two ghosts reach out with unfeeling hands trying to grasp at Cinder and Haydog, both of whom wisely duck as the specral limbs pass over them.
Chord looses an arrow into the leftmost remaining ghost, which trails ghastly essence behind in its wake as it clatters off the wall.
Haydog reloads his pistol and declares, “Let me feast in your anguish Sprit!” as he fires another lead bullet towards the specter.
Cinder follows up with 2 quick strokes from his sword finishing the ghost he was battling which dissolves with a sigh “Bring back….”
Chilam moves up and attacks the last ghost Shrilly speaking now “MEB! Mgoose nadootg aem eld poot ba pootee taag eeae. CHORD! Sag gebt dana teb!” as he swings through finishing the last ghost which dissolves with a sigh “Still Alive?”.
Chord |
Looks over the elderly man, checking his wounds.
"Deputy, er no sir, or at least not me. I beg your pardon, but if I may take a guess, are YOU the sheriff?"
Looks on the guy for a badge of station or symbol.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
"Are you hurt? You are awefully brave to be in such unfriendly circumstances and to be quite honest, well sir meant with no disrespect, at your age?!? Shouldnt you leave this kind of business to more youthful, capable hands?"
Lynx Tooth the Sharp aka DM Ane |
Ah, now I know how it might be looking to ye all, but I'm not as old as I may look right now, I took quite a few hits from those apparitions so I'm not quite looking my best right now. My deputy was supposed to meet me here quite a while ago, I'll have to go find out what's happened to that boy. Lynnoria mentioned some kind of reward, that I suppose you'll all be wanting, but if you wouldn't mind could you look about a bit more down here and see if you could find any more clues as to what might be going on?
Chilam Balam |
Yes we could do both, claim the reward and look around, I'll be going back to where we saw the 1st ghost. There was aomething strange on the wall. I canna restore your youth but do you require healing? Cinder, I guess you're okay I saw you heal yourself. Chord I assume you took no damage seeing as how you never got close enough to take a hit. Haydog you okay?
Chord |
My deputy was supposed to meet me here quite a while ago, I'll have to go find out what's happened to that boy.
"Could the lad be down here and maybe went the other passage we passed back there?"
Lynnoria mentioned some kind of reward, that I suppose you'll all be wanting, but if you wouldn't mind could you look about a bit more down here and see if you could find any more clues as to what might be going on?
"Might as well. The spirits were looking for their bodies I assume since they were telling us... " Speaking in a moaning spirit like talk
Perform(Storytelling):1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 "Whears~muh~boddie~?!?"
Chords lurches forward with upward ragdoll like arms and googly eyes. He then composes himself and looks at the floor.
"if somone walked off with the corpses, they may leave tracks in the dusty tomb, unless of course we have lost them with all our battling."
Chord places his nose close to the ground and tries to divine if there had been tomb robbers here, and if so, where did they go?
Perception:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Lynx Tooth the Sharp aka DM Ane |
I hope the lads not gotten his-self lost down here, unlikely though seeing as how I waited a good hour for him to show up, no more then likely hes gotten himself lost out in the woods or sat down for a drink in The Stuffed Wolf, tends to slack off too much that one does, needs a sturdier head on him - yet he's not bad in a brawl and he'll work for the pay.
DM-Anewor |
There are indeed tracks all over down here, from the feet of no less than 10 different people, not counting the ones the appear as you step, briefly looking at the footprints. There also appears to be some kind of drag mark on the floor heading east.
You'll need to use Survival DC 15 to track any particular tracks in the footprints or work at determining how old the tracks are

Points to the drag marks on the floor and does his best to follow the direction of the marks away from the robbed site.
"These marks here may have been the corpses dragged from their resting places. If we follow them, we may find some really dead, dead things and not the not-so-dead-and-really-angry dead things."
Chord doesnt have survival but he may be able to follow the drag marks a little. Is there adequate lighting down here?
Perception to follow drag marks: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Chord |
what happened to the or other two fellows in the party
Chord looks up, scratches his head and then remembers
"Oh, you mean Vern. I havent seen him. I guess that would be normal after he cast an invisibility spell. He is probably watching us now from some secure and safe location, laughing at our missteps. The other gentleman,Ailbien, was outside the babershop but i dont think he decided to join us on this venture."
