I have a friend who designs maps for a living. he's done alot of professional work, including nearly every WotC-released Star Wars Miniature maps, as well as having severl things published for Dungeon magazine back in the day.
His website can be found at Maps of Mastery
Anywho, he has a new project going right now, which he calls "Deep Vistas". Its a set of 6 maps (3 double sided) that have some pretty dang amazing art, if I say so. One of the maps, called "Chapel of Scarabs" even looks like it would fit perfectly into a game in Osirion.
This project is on the ground floor right now, and he needs some help getting these maps released. He is raising the funding to print them through a website called Kickstarter. The link for this particular project is: Deep Vistas.
Kickstarter is a really easy site to use, too. Go, choose how much you want to pledge, and which prize you want for your pledge ($36 pledge will get you a copy of all 6 of the maps). If the funding goal is met by the funding date, then you will be charged the amount you chose to pledge (through Paypal, btw). If the funding goal isnt met on time, you arent charged anything.
Go check it out. it'll be worth it when you get those maps.

I think we all enjoy the map makers that Paizo helped pad their resume. Chris has been a favorite of my players for years. I will donate to his cause the holiday of Valentines. Cheers!

Just want to say I paid some money to back one of his last projects on kickstarter (the second sci fi transit project) and it all was very on the up and up. When the project was completed I also very promptly received my "gift" preorder items, etc.
I'm short on funds this time around so may not be able to contribute but wanted to say it went well last time. It does look like a fantastic project.

Is this the same "West" that did the Critical Locations book for d20 Modern?

Yes he is.

This is THE Chris West who has done maps in EVERYTHING you've read - d20, Star Wars, Iron Kingdoms, Dragon, Dungeon, Kobold Q - he's one of THE best RPG map makers out there.
I'm in on this Kickstart project too. I did the last one and was 100% satisfied. I'm only in on the basic $36 level this time because I already own all his other map and map-card sets. If I didn't, I'd go in at a higher level to pick up his older map sets. He's that good. You and I may make nice maps, but West's maps are incredible.

When I saw that for only two grand he'd design your campaign world I wanted to kick and scream "why can't I write stuff that people want to buy?" Made me laugh, at least.
"Hi, I'm Bruce and Chris West just made these maps for the next ten years of my game. I think I'm going to go change before I start sitting behind the screen because I can't stop crapping myself over the fact, but that isn't here or there. What matters is that you as my players, need to think about creating the nobility houses for the seven major players in the human political world and next week we'll go over the start of the campaign, plus your characters you've created. After that, we will have tea while we discuss the off-shoot campaigns from the ripples that are caused here. And the drow. How will the drow figure into this?"
I'm really wishing I had that capacity.

I agree with Mosaic. Chances are, if youve been exposed to much wotc roleplaying products, or anything with maps, youve probably seen something Chris has done.
@ Beercifer, lol. Assuming our who I think you are, Ive watched some of your RotR campaign videos on YouTube.
That is my group on youtube. Eight more videos need to be uploaded and then possibly, you might be able to convince my players that we need to get back to filming and 'ahem' documenting our game.

I haven't actually done anything for Kobold Quarterly yet, though I hope to remedy that in the future as I'm a big fan of--and friend to--Wolfgang.
I have worked for Paizo, WotC, Green Ronin, The Game Mechanics, AEG, Privateer Press, Avalanche Press, and others. Lately I've been doing a lot of maps for Pathfinder Society Scenarios. I used to be known best for my Maps of Mystery in Dungeon magazine, and later for doing all but one of the poster maps for the Star Wars miniatures game (and most of the maps in the SW RPG books).
This Kickstarter project is absolutely on the up-and-up. I did two successful Kickstarter-based launches for other posters last year (which now can be found for sale here at Paizo, incidentally: do a search for "Maps of Mastery"), and backers seemed very pleased with the quality. Plus, with Kickstarter, no money ever changes hands unless a project reaches its funding goal by its deadline, so there's no risk involved.
This is the first time I've tried to launch 6 maps at once, though, and frankly, it's not going as well as the others. We're over half way to the deadline, and not quite half way to the funding goal. If these maps don't get more support from the fantasy gaming community in the next week or so, they probably won't see print.
If you guys could help me out by sharing this link with your friends, I'll be as Eternally Grateful as the Toy Story aliens:

Chris, have you hit the other spots on the web? Enworld or places like that?
Christopher West |
Yes, I've been doing my best to get the word out without being overly intrusive. (I hate spam as much as the next guy.) ENWorld ran a news item and there's a message board thread about it.
Mainly I've been hitting the social network sites; various message boards, Facebook, and Twitter. If you can think of other places to mention this, please, by all means do so!
It's about 70% to the funding goal now, but there are only 44 hours left in this project; if we don't get enough backers by midnight on Monday, these posters won't see print.
Incidentally, I added a new reward tier that lets backers get my adventure, "Fall of the Heretic Queen" as a PDF along with the poster maps, without buying other extra maps they may not need.

I'm in for all the new maps - $36 I think - but don't need the old ones. I may up my contribution anyway, just to try to help put the project over the top. I'm paying like $12 per map now; I could go up to maybe $15 each without breaking the bank. I'd suggest that other current contributors consider doing something similar (within their means, of course) if they want these beauties to see the light of day.

So now I'm at the $56 level. Added a nice round $20. Come one, come all - let's get these awesome maps printed!!
[Christopher - I read on your site the possibility of some more urban maps in the future - that'd be great! I love to see a set of 6 urban/village scenes!]
godsDMit |
Bump for awesomeness!!
Come on folks, these maps look great, and its getting close.
I know its mentioned on the site, but I dont think its mentioned here that the amount you choose to pledge to get your 'free gift' includes the price of shipping. So if you donate at the $36 level to get one of each of these new maps, then its not $36 plus shipping costs. Just a flat $36!

Just got my 3 double-sided battle maps and they are amazing! Thanks Chris and everyone else who made this possible.

I got my maps and bonus material. Everything is awesome.
I would have loved if the adventure had been for Pathfinder instead of 4E, though I readily recognize that this was probably written somewhere and I just didn't notice it. I wonder what percentage of the project backers were Pathfinder players vs. 4E.
Just idle curiosity really. I have zero real complaints about the products and will happily support another such project.
