Dito. And I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.

I'm not going to comment on anything either. It's very easy to be perceived as trying to skew the voting despite not commenting on our own archetypes per the rules, and intent is not easily translated over screen.

Given everyone's items, though, I can't wait to see the archetypes. :)

Yeah, that's basically what I was thinking too. I apologize if anyone sees this as rude, but I do intend to go back and comment on the items eventually, plus each future round.

Good luck everyone! 3 and a half hours before the archetypes are revealed! I too, will refrain from commenting, plus, I'm knee deep in homework this week...boo.

I guess one of the good things about working in industrial safety is that if nothing goes wrong during the day you can get a lot of other work done, especially on the afternoon shift! That being said it will be hard to sit on the sidelines as our work is out there on the field of battle taking hits with no cleric to pull heads out of chests.

I apologize if this has been explained elsewhere, but what exactly are the restrictions on our commenting during voting? Are we just supposed to stay out of the archetype threads, or do we need to keep mum altogether?

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2011 Top 32 , Star Voter Season 8 aka Sect

I'm not sure if there's any rules saying we can or can't, but I plan on not commenting at all on my own archetype until voting's over.

You have to keep mum altogether about your submission that's being voted on in any thread, messageboard, or even website. Posting about other stuff is generally okay. Anyone who dances too close to the flame, however, will get burned.

So commenting on other archetypes is okay, so long as we keep shut about our own.

So far as I know, that's still acceptable (i.e., it has been in the past), but do so at your own risk.

Sean, that's true, but there have been some Superstar contestants who either (a) criticized their rivals, which didn't sit well with the voting public, or (b) efulsively complimented their fellow contestants' entries, which voters interpreted as fawning, and punished.

Really, I don't think there's a wide, safe, middle ground. If you post fulsome praise for Sam's archetype, and he posts fulsome praise for yours...

Yes, good luck to everyone! Most of the feedback can get you down, but I think everyone really did great and showed some creativity!

+1 to everyone!

Paizo Employee Director of Brand Strategy

Just wanted to direct everyone to Sean's thread here regarding the level of criticism from the judges this round.

Even those of you who received less praise than others deserve to be proud not only of making it this far, but of tackling the task of designing a new archetype, which is anything but easy.

So keep positive!

Best of luck in the voting!

I've only had time to look through a few so far, but there's some great ideas in there.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2011 Top 32 , Dedicated Voter Season 6 aka Eyebite

Well done guys.

I really liked the imagery of many of your archetypes.

I've gotten more than a few ideas for characters I'd like to play now.

Oof! The judges were just as critical as they warned they would be, and it stings just a little. Thankfully Sean softened the blow a bit, still I'll probably walk with a limp for a while. :)

I don't want to compliment anyone too much for fear of appearing to suck up, but there are several entries that were praised highly and that deserved every bit of it. I will not be holding my votes back from these individuals even though it hurts my chances to move on. ;D

Congrats to everyone on getting a submission in!

Just got through all of your entries folks. Good job everyone! This is a challenging round considering Archetypes are a fairly new mechanic. If the judges are saying even the pros are stumbling on these then I think we should feel pretty good taking a crack at it.

Archetypes are a very different can of worms. I feel like I've learned quite a bit in the last few days, especially after the last few hours of reading commentary.

Oh man did I have a horrible dream last night. I was in a large room with the other 31 'Top 32' (that part was cool), waiting for the reveal of the round 3 rules. When it finally came, Paizo let us know that there was a required CR range of 1-3. That was bad enough, since that doesn't leave a lot of room to make interesting choices, but then it was also revealed that this round wasn't, in fact, going to be a stat block, but instead we were to submit an illustration or other visual format for our villain. I was desperately trying to make something better than a stick figure, while everyone else whipped out paints, started sculpting, or made life sized mannequins dressed in full garb.

points at Sympathetic Magic class feature
Are you quite certain it's wise to attempt a pre-emptive strike against someone who's clearly been preparing himself to make little images of people?
Spoiler:
Little models + sympathetic magic = Voodoo dolls?

There's no such thing! (Literally, what with only one book* to his name.)

Seriously, though, Name of the Wind made me a little depressed at how badly WOtC screwed the pooch on a true name based magic system.

Sorry for the derailing. Back to your regularly scheduled discussion.

When I finish my current campaign, I want to run Serpent's Skull. Smuggler's Shiv looks like it will be a lot of fun.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4 aka Scipion del Ferro

The shipwreck and first fight was pretty cool...however exploring the island felt a bit cumbersome. Without a hex system to guide you, there was a lot of guestimations for how much could be explored. Very fiddly. If I play/run that AP again I'll probably start characters at level 2 or 3 and cut out most of the 'grind'. I really want to get into the later books, and am even pretty fond of the later part of Shiv.

It's the first AP I've ever run and I'm enjoying it a lot. We'll be moving to the next book within 2 or 3 more sessions.

March 2007 was when Name of the Wind came out in hardcover, so... technically four years. (Which is just a blink of the eye if you've cut your teeth on waiting for, say, the next GRRM novel...) I only just got around to reading it last spring, though, so I can't even book-martyr myself that much. Less than a year's wait, really, for me.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 8 , Dedicated Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 7, Dedicated Voter Season 8 aka John Benbo

It's my first AP too. I've bought the first three books but haven't finished reading the third one yet. I've heard a lot of good things about Kingmaker and would like to run that one as well, but my group only meets every 2-3 weeks so it will be awhile before we get to any of the APs. I'm also reading "City of Strangers" and that could be a whole another campaign. So many ideas, so little time to play...

I'd actually like to play in Kingmaker. Though my group has another 2 GMs, we meet too infrequently (also only once every 2 - 3 weeks) to run through 2 APs simultaneously.

I actually have a signed hardcover copy of A Feat For Crows. I have given up on A Dance of Dragons or whatever it'll be called. Just glad he's still letting people write Wild Card stories and "editing" those. That is a world I really enjoy.

Dark Archive Contributor , Marathon Voter Season 6, Marathon Voter Season 7, Dedicated Voter Season 8, Star Voter Season 9 aka Boxhead

I still find myself telling people to read The Name of the Wind. It's easily on my short list for best fantasy novel ever. I've read the Game of Thrones series, but the wait times are a killer. I'll probably have to re-read them when a new one comes out...

Alas, no Pathfinder this weekend (though Monday night saw my PCs have their second session in The Impossible Eye), though I will likely be painting miniatures for an upcoming Warhammer 40k Apocalypse game. For some reason, that Stompa just won't paint itself.

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2011 Top 32 , Star Voter Season 6

I'm making the adventures for the PF game we're playing. The game last night took place underwater and I used quite a few monsters from the Bestiary 2. The creatures worked really well.

As far as novel go, itt isn't fantasy, but I just finished Greg Bear's Hull Zero Three and it was quite good. Harkens back to Metamophous Alpha.

I just started L.E. Modesitt, Jr.'s Empress of Eternity. The world building is amazing and the looking at three different human civilations in three different times but in the same location reminded me of Foundation.
