I would not worry about it, as long as you post when you get home you should be fine. I would not risk getting in trouble at work. I can tell you that I will be unable to post until I am off work this weekend as working tech support on Christmas and the day after is an absolute nightmare.

Scipion del Ferro RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4 |

The day after blows, but nobody ever calls my Wireless on Christmas. I'll be shocked if we're there for two hours. I still can't believe they want me working 12 hours of overtime the week of Christmas. > _ > Stupid job. I know you get all the special ed iPod people who just got their brand new shiny toy the next day, but seriously, who the heck get's a Time Capsule or Apple TV as a present?

Tikael |

Customer: "I just got this iTouch and I cant get it to work."
Me: " *internal sigh* Have you connected it to your computer?"
Customer: "I need to have a computer for this? That is just ridiculous and I am going to complain to the better business bureau."
I will put money on having this exact conversation with at least 3 people on the 26th.

Actually that wouldn't surprise me a bit. The intelligence of the general populace is not very high. I also don't understand why they ALWAYS complain to the BBB when everything is stated very clearly for them to read. They just chose to look at the pretty pictures and ignore the words like 5 year olds.

smashthedean |

I was worried you were dipping the Int and Wis just to boost your Strength. Thought that you would either play him way to stupid, or pretty much ignore it and play him with an average intelligence.
Well I'd be lying if I said the Strength boost didn't factor into my setup as I really am pretty notorious for optimizing my characters, but I definitely think it's important to roleplay one's weakness as well as one's strengths and there's a lot of fun to be had with getting into the mindset of someone who is deeply flawed in certain attributes and figuring out how that person might act in different situations and then just rolling with it.

Rhys Grey |

So, I totally forgot about this thread entirely. This is also my first PbP, and I am rather new to Pathfinder in general. Actually, new to any game that requires roleplay with dice. So, please bear with me if I happen to do something stupid, as the learning curve is rather steep for me here.
Humiliation is bound to happen, but I am totally cool with being made fun of for it.
You are all awesome so far! I'm having a blast.
You're doing great, so far! Risl definitely has personality and quirks; it's fun interacting with her!
As for doing something stupid: I wouldn't worry about it. I've been GMing tabletop games for a really long time, and I still screw up, sometimes! I'm sure that any of us will help you out if you have questions; we may not even tease you (much)! :p

The map looks good. The only thing I would recommend to make tactical movement easier would be to have each row and column numbered or lettered instead of every other one so that we could be like "I want to move to square B7," I don't think Ye Olde Map Maker can do that, but you could probably edit it in MSpaint or something pretty easily. That's a pretty minor complaint though as it all looks really good and I think it will be plenty functional either way. Keep up the awesome GM job :)

This our second time playing. The first time we stopped right at the beginning of book three.
This time through was interesting, I had to think of things to spice the encounters up. We're also using point-buy instead of rolling for stats. Which is nice because last time I had to like max out all the enemies HP and just jack them up for any fun at all.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do for book two...where skipping kingdom building because it was kind of boring last time, so without that...the second book lacks a bit. I'm thinking I should have built a 4-7 module based in Ioberia to fill it, unfortunately that thought only just occurred to me and there's a week until we play next.

Next round of combat will be up before noon tomorrow. Risl had a bit too much to drink tonight and can't quite manage a post. As soon as she does though I have Round 2 ready! It will be very interesting.
You arse, you're not supposed to announce to the world that I got Sh*t faced while playing Kingmaker with you and Tikael. Jeeze.
Still though, sorry about that, guys. I would have posted earlier in the day as well, but like I said, work is not fun right now. I'm doing all sorts of crazy stuff that I am lucky if I get ten seconds to myself. Also, the technical part of the game is still tripping me up a little, both in the game itself (I roll wut for wut and add wut? Wut?)and getting all the formatting correct for these messageboards as well. The book 1 of Kingmaker that Mastermind, Tikael and I have been playing is my first campaign, well, ever.
I may utilize this thread a bit more to get a little help if I find myself all befuddled.

smashthedean |

No worries. I'm always happy to give technical advice as I'm a bit of a rules junkie. For example, I would probably focus future Entangles so that just the edge of their template touch the enemies or else you could risk entangling your allies as well... at least until they get their heads chopped off!

Scipion del Ferro RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4 |

How did orc 2 move to hit me when he was entangled? The vines grabbing him are anchored and thus prevent movement.
Creatures that fail their save gain the entangled condition.
* Move at half speed
* Cannot run or charge
* –2 penalty on all attack rolls
* –4 penalty to Dexterity.
* Must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) to cast a spell (or lose the spell).

Tikael |

Entangled: The character is ensnared. Being entangled impedes movement, but does not entirely prevent it unless the bonds are anchored to an immobile object or tethered by an opposing force. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell.

Tikael |

Major Image: You can move the image within the limits of the size of the effect.
:P
Oh, I know. Just complaining.
Though I was under the impression that illusions could not cause harm unless they were shadow spells, even subdual damage cannot be dealt by an illusion. in fact the book even says they are useless for directly attacking creatures. I know this because if major image could then my illusionist I played in Kingmaker would have been an unstoppable force.
Mastermind |

I didn't figure loose forest dirt really counted as firm anchoring, but I can totally see how it would slow a person down to constantly be grabbed by plants.
This is the only example I've seen of major image in a book and it actually comes out and says unless you fail the Will save you think the wounds are real. So while it doesn't actually hurt you, you and anyone who is watching certainly thinks so. However once the spell is disbelieved the wounds go away.
I wasn't sure about being knocked out....but I figure if you are completely convinced you are killed, you probably pass out a little. It also made it a very unique encounter, and thank goodness there isn't another one like that in the book!
Also your illusionist was already an unstoppable force, he one-shot the boss of Rivers Run Red :P

Hey all, and happy holidays! I just wanted to say that I'm not sure how often I'll be able to post tomorrow--it being Christmas, and all--but I'm reasonably sure I can do so either early in the morning or later in the evening (or both). I don't know everone's holiday plan, so I thought I'd throw this out there.

Now that we've found our first loot, we should probably figure out what sort of loot system we'd like to use. Personally I'm most fond of totaling up the values of all of the items we find, halving it to account for the amount we'd get after selling, adding any gold in afterwords, and then splitting it four ways. If anyone wants to claim any of the items we find, we would subtract the amount that the item could be sold for from their split.
For example say we find:
+1 short sword (2310 gp)
full plate armor (1500 gp)
1700 gp
(2310+1500)/2 + 1700 = 3605
3605/4 = 901.25 each
and then say I wanted the full plate so instead of getting 901.25, I would only get 151.25 (901.25 - 750). This system can run into problems if say I wanted the shortsword instead since its sale price would be more than I'd be getting in my split that turn. How I like to solve this problem is to either have the claimer pay the difference out of pocket if they can afford it or set the item aside (though they could still use it) and wait to include it until the party is selling loot worth enough for the party member to pay for his item out of his share.
The main benefit of this system is that every party member gets an exactly equal share of the loot and if we aren't finding any items that their character wants, they can afford to buy them. The main downside of this system is that it is a little complex, but to make it easy I have a handy dandy spreadsheet that I made and use for all of my games.
LINK IS HERE with some random fake loots in there for people to play around with to see how it works.
Let me know what you all think and I am more than happy to handle the spreadsheetery and calculating ooc.

Scipion del Ferro RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4 |

Sounds good if you guys want to link to that in your profiles it will make it easy to refer to. Though items that are 'claimed' should probably be counted as their full buy value for whoever claims it. This way claimed items aren't worth twice as much as a 'share'
ie. The party finds +1 armor and 3,000gp. Helios claims the armor.
Bad Example The sell value of the armor is 500gp so normally it would make the party 'pot' 3,500 gp. Which means that each person gets 875gp. Take 500gp out of Helios' share and he get's 375gp. So now Helios has armor that could have been bought for 1,000g, and another 375gp on top of it. The others all have gold and are not able to even buy armor. So he's ahead of the others by 500gp.
However if you count the armor for it's full value towards Helios' share, you get this.
Good Example The sell value of the armor is 500gp so normally it would make the party 'pot' 3,500 gp. Which means that each person gets 875gp. Take 1,000gp out of Helios' share and he's in the hole 125gp and gives that to the pot (now 2750gp). Now Helios has armor that could have been bought for 1,000g, and the others have 917gp. Making the party wealth disparity much smaller.
Of course you would only want to "pay to the pot" when the pot is split other wise you would be endlessly adjusting how much you owe.

smashthedean |

That example isn't really correct as it really makes it so that Helios' money is just disappearing into thin air. What would actually have to happen to make the plan you propose work would be for the armor to be completely removed from the equation, split up the 3000 gp between everyone and then separately have Helios pay the party for the item. Here's how it would look:
The party pot is 3000 gp, this is split up and everyone gets 750 gp. Separately Helios "purchases" the item from the party. Each party member (including himself) gets 250 gp and he loses 1000 gp. The end result would be that Helios would have 0 gp and everyone else would have 1000 gp.
I'm not wholly opposed to this solution and actually see a lot of ways that the party really benefits from it, but I feel that my proposed solution makes finding special items count for more and be more fun as the player couldn't just walk into town and buy that same item for the same price with no benefit whatsoever either way.
Another nice benefit of my system is that a player can pick up an item that may only be a minor upgrade to them or may be a special unique item that isn't quite as effective as an equally market valued item, and then turn around and sell it later for the exact same price they "paid" for it with no penalty whatsoever.
Anyway, I'm cool going with either system and will happily act as ooc loot scribe and banker whatever we choose to do. Once everyone votes I'll update the spreadsheet I posted with our actual loot and we can post links in profiles and whatnot. When it comes time to go ahead and split up the loot, I'll post the link here and everyone can call out what they're claiming and I can run the numbers.

Something like that, I usually don't consider the issue to deeply. There won't be much of a chance to sell/buy stuff until after the module so keeping track of what is found and who get's what would be useful for figuring out exactly who made out like a bandit and who needs a bit more gold to come to par.

![]() |

Just give me stuff. Really. I don't know what I want or what would be useful to me yet. So, just pile it on and I'll figure it out I guess.
Also --- Tomorrow (Tuesday the 28th) is going to be super busy. Actually, Tuesday - Thursday of this week is going to be insane. I will likely not even get my 2 15 minute breaks or my lunch. I will likely have time to get a soda, wee, and then sprint back to my desk. So the likelihood of me posting while at work the next few days is slim to none. For that, I apologize. If I do happen to get one in, HOORAY!

Talis, when you are drawing cards, why are you reducing it by 1 each time? I know there is one less in the deck each time, but reducing the die roll doesn't quite affect that...
If you are assigning a card to each number all that is doing is making it so you won't roll 78, or 77 again. It would work better if you did a re-roll should you get the same number twice in a row.

Heh, you're right; I'm not sure why I thought it would make a difference! I'll keep that in mind next time I feel like rolling them bones. :)

smashthedean |

Technically the rolling one less sided die each time could work if you put all of the cards in a spreadsheet with rows numbering 1-78 and then just deleted a row when that card was drawn, effectively reducing the number of rows by one each time. Not everyone is as spreadsheet crazy as me though :P
