hmm I'll tell you what kalderaan, if you blow me away with a back story i'll make it 8 players and let you in right away! =)

Leshok,

Are you using traits in this game? If so, how many?

Scarab Sages

Still writing the background (I've twisted together bits and pieces from an Egyptian folk tale I remembered , Fading Suns , lots of FR adventures like Four from Cormyr , the Falling Star Spelljammer adventure from Dungeon Magazine a long time ago , bits from the Warhammer : Shadow of the Sun AP on RPG.net and probably some more stuff I don't recall as clearly) . It should be an interesting character to play , chronologically I've only got the character up to 7th level so far so I need to think of a few more set piece adventures to add to their legend...

Trivia question : I remember couatl are supposed to hate and be hated by a race of bird-like monsters . Does anyone remember what their names are ? I kept thinking it was rocs but surely they're not on the same level as a couatl , I think it might be perytons

The spell list also screams awesome when I look at it . I've never actually reached higher levels outside of 2nd edition and I keep thinking 'Wow . I can cast that ?'

(DM) Leshok , have you got a specific royal family in mind for my character to be attached to ? I'm imagining her as coming from a foreign noble background (a la Medicini/Mazarini/Borgia et al.) but essentially considered 'beyond the pale' (i.e too good/heroic) and thus having had to establish herself as an adventurer and advisor in her own right...Perhaps some courageous act that creates a bond between them like Azoun and Vangerdahast or Horiuchi Soan and Shinjo Yokastsu (in L5R)

Tentatively female character but so far what I've written could equally apply to a male or female character , I'll have to think about it some more.

I've given her an apprentice so far, mostly one that became attached too her for political reasons but I may add one or too more . The way Al-Qadim sorcerers trained their apprentices (cf Sha'ir's Handbook) seems like the best way of roleplaying it in my opinion

*Continues brainstorming*

wow i forgot about traits! yes two traits for EVERYONE! as long as they make sense of course.

adrien: i'm going to be honest here and say i did not understand like 85% of the references you made here lol, I have never run nor played a module in my life, everything has been home brew (9 years of homebrew running and playing!)

I will be posting up some more regional information here very soon, leaving work now, more info to come that can help you with some of those questions.

Greetings!

I'm thinking of an elf illusionist. She's been around for a long time (if acceptable, she would already be middle-aged, approaching old, somewhere around 250 or so), and is often sought out for her sage-like knowledge. She has had several apprentices over the years, but they have all moved on to their own careers, so she doesn't have any currently. When she was younger, she used to adventure extensively, but it's been a while.

Instead of a dream, I was thinking that the hook that gets her involved could be, while doing some research (into history, or the planes, or whatever is most appropriate for the campaign), she came across a sort of cryptic prophecy that when deciphered pointed her to the old cathedral.

I'll flesh things out more once you've posted about the game world, but I thought I'd get this in to see what you think.

Sorry about that . Reading over my post again I can see some of it was obscure. It doesn't really matter anyway , I got a bit over-excited. Hopefully the background will be interested and make sense when I'm done writing it .

9 years of homebrew is awesome :) Congratulations

Also looking forward to more info about politics/geography , or anything else about the world .

Hey guys, spent 4 hours working on the character, and it is done... but it will have to wait until tommorow to post it ... I've got to get some sleep 8)

(Navior that works just as well! =) )

hey guys, I had hoped to have more info on the game world ready and maybe a map but work and real life were busy today! so here is what i'll throw at you real fast.

You are in the southern Duchy of the Kingdom of Ulstadt, in the ruins of a former temple, all of you are here for whatever device (prophecy, god, dream, etc) brought you here.

things to know about Ulstadt:
Patriarch Monarchy king: King Roderick Hondreich the 4th
neighboring countries: to the north is the Republic of Grishorn, to the north-east is the Republic of Hermania, and to the east is an alliance of city states that call themselves the "Eastern Alliance".
Ulstadt is located on the south-west part of the continent.

Arcane and Divine magic are as separated as science and religion are now a days.

population of Ulstadt is somewhere around 500,000 all in all.

The Southern Duchy of Ulstadt is called Ergondine presided over by the Duke Garen Tirsnoth, a celebrated knight and champion jouster.

If you have any more direct questions i'll be glad to answer them, otherwise its really hard to present an entire world of information, since i've been lacking the time to make a site for it all.

Leshok - I have my backstory complete. I have not worked on the mechanics of the character - just the story.

I sent it to your gmail account.

If you approve, please let me know and I will get to work on the rest of the character.

Hah, glad someone caught the Ender's Game reference. I liked the name Bonzo and then couldn't come up with a last name, so I stuck to the same theme.

I've yet to come up with a good backstory other than Bonzo has spent his days travelling and becoming a reknown Monster Slayer. I'm thinking hydras, sea-serpents, dragons, etc. However I've got the character stats themselves mostly shelled out, minus the equipment. 140,000 gp is a lot to spend. Also, once I'm done, I'd appreciate if somebody looked over my EQ and gave me any pointers. I've never made a character this high of level, and I might be missing out on a few key items that I don't even know exist. I'll make another comment once the EQ is up.

okay! I'll update map of just Ulstadt ASAP, in other news... Kalderaan has been accepted to play as well!

Adrien, he is also involved with the King's court so I recommend you two collaborate a bit since you'd probably know each other!

=)

also more info...

Ulstadt has 4 Duchy, Grenier(north), Ergondine(south), Clouston(west), and Wardmark(east).

the kingdom has "freedom of religon" meaning you can worship anything the king recognizes as a religon, other "cults" are then treated as false organizations.

Where did you come up with the 140,000gp allotment?

I referred to this table: NPC Gear - Pathfinder SRD

If we are using the Fast XP rules, then we go with Heroic Level 14. If we are using High Fantasy setting, the amount is doubled.

With that in mind, the value is 69,600gp for Fast XP, High Fantasy.

Can you please clarify the value Leshok?

bonzo, I'll be more than glad to look over anything!

further i can help you with a back story too if you need.

this would be easier to do over email or gmail chat

Leshok,

What languages are prevalent in your world? I'm seeing Braelin (my cleric/rogue/spherewalker) as a globe traveling explorer more than a warrior.

I used the table at the bottom of this page, http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/character-creation

It has a character wealth by level chart, and level 13 says 140,000. But yes, clarification by Leshok would be nice :)

right then! clarification is.... 140,000 gold per This table

as for languages... Elven, Dwarven and Orcish are pretty comoon. Gnome and halfling are spoken in their communities, but not much else where.

Arcane caster tend to go for draconic as dragons are known to be sources of ancient magic.

Having been a more "world traveler" you might want to consider some of the more exotic languages too.

Just a couple of questions:

What area(s) of the world are elves generally from?

How do you want to handle the number of spells a wizard has in his/her spellbook at this level?

Navior: Elves come from all over, in this world each kingdom/country/republic/whatever is a blend of all races. Over time ancient elven societies and dwarven kingdoms have simply integrated with the fast growing human population, simply put there wasn't enough room in the world for segregation. So you can be from anywhere

of course some dwarves still prefer living in mountains and elves forests, but they still fall under other territories.

as for spells? wizards get 2 spells each level to add to their spell book up to their highest level spell they can cast that level.

Other than that..I'll say you could purchase scrolls to put into your book at a rate of 120% the price of the scroll (which would account for a time and material cost)

I also have a few questions:

1. If we take a Magic Item crafting feat, do we then pay the crafting cost (1/2 of the full value) when making our initial purchases?

2. Can you purchase wands with charges fewer than 50? For example, can I purchase a wand with 5 or 10 charges?

Rolling Hit Points for Sojourn: 12d8 ⇒ (5, 4, 1, 7, 6, 5, 6, 5, 3, 6, 7, 2) = 57

Reroll 1's 1d8 ⇒ 6

Full hit points at 1st level = 8

Total = 57 - 1 + 6 + 8 = 70 + 26 (CON modifiers) = 96

Question - Do companions/animal companions/mounts/eidolons get the same treatment for Hit Points - max at first and roll for additional HD?

Hit Points for Eidolon = 9d10 ⇒ (5, 8, 8, 4, 3, 8, 6, 2, 10) = 54 + 10 (max @ first level) + 10 (Con modifier) + 10 (Toughness feat) = 84

about crafting items....

run the item by me, items can take a long time to make based on their value (1 day per 1,000 gold piece value) so if there were too many items made, it would have really cut into your hero time i guess. Now if you have specific reason for needing to make this item, i'm more likely to approve it! =)

2. yes, as long as you do the math figuring out the price correctly

Male Human Fighter 10 (Free-Hand Fighter), Chevalier 3

Okay, I've got everything done except for hitpoints, experience (just a copy+paste of whatever exp is needed for lvl 13, I assume), and backstory. If somebody could look into my EQ and make any suggestions/point out any problems, I'd much appreciate it.

Going to roll for hp. 13d10 + 36 ⇒ (9, 10, 8, 9, 5, 2, 8, 7, 3, 8, 3, 4, 8) + 36 = 120

EDIT: oops, I rolled 13 HD and I assume the first one should be an assumed maximum roll, so I'll add 1 to that 9 and make it a 10. Also I did +36 for my CON bonus (+2 per level) and my first 10 levels of fighter use the +1 hp bonus. 121 without Toughness, and with Toughness gives me... 134 HP.

Gnome Summoner 13

I am mostly done. I have to tweak my magic item and gear list and figure out my weapon strategy.

I have no STR so will most likely go with a ranged weapon. I'm hoping I don't end up in melee often.

Adrien, I have posted my alias with background. I would like to collaborate on how we know each other.

Thanks

Scarab Sages

Thanks for the additional information. I have been caught up in last minute academic work and will not be done with the character until the weekend probably.

I'd be delighted to work with you and collaborate for in-character background Kalderaan . Yours is excellent and much more concise than mine, I had a similar idea for my character (i.e diplomatic service to a patron) , essentially a nobleman (or noblewoman) (perhaps from the Eastern Alliance since it has city-states) who was entered into a diplomatic marriage before birth to seal a political alliance with another family had been fueding with . As (s)he grew up it became clear that the other family was decadent/corrupt (here I'm using the Decados from Fading Suns as a reference) but the political fallout made it unlikely that the family would get out of it.

However it had also been divined at her birth that her life would be intertwined with snakes somehow and , suspecting assassination attempts or poisoning, essentially secluded her in her study and allowed her to learn magic as the distraction of a well-born girl/boy . Obviously for her own protection her tutor was an Abjurer. Eager to find out more about the outside world she tried to get hold of as much information about faraway places and peoples as possible and became known as an armchair collector . Meanwhile her snake-related visions (which increasingly took a more couatl-like quality , with rainbows, coloured feathers , jungles...) intensified and she gained a bad reputation of sorts for mental illness , since she could not explain why snake-like figures were so central since (out of obvious fear that the prophecy would be realised) her parents decreed the subjects of snakes to be taboo around her.

Ultimately however her fate would not be denied and so one day when she was looking over a shipment of documents/items from faraway tropical places she was bitten by a snake which she reached out to touch without fear (i.e without knowledge of what it was) and promptly died from snakebite .

Everyone was horrified that they could not prevent her fate from being meted out but at the same time it was found that a technicality in the marriage contracted discharged them from honouring it if one of the betrothed died . In her last moments of consciousness a couatl appeared to her and revealed that she was fated to do greater things in life and serve the cause of good , and that her experience of death was about finding the knowledge/courage she needed (here I'm drawing heavily on shamanic beliefs about initiation)

(S)he was left quite weakened and shaken by a casting of Raise Dead and promptly sent to the country to administer one of the family's properties as a way of being conveniently forgotten for a few years and gained a bit more skill in magic as well as an appreciation of the life of her family's peasants. Around this time she started becoming involved as a patron to the local temple of Desna and in turn the church used her noble connections (though limited) to propagate its message .

Eventually she was recalled back to court to serve her family in respectable , but lesser roles than she would normally have aspired to as a chaperone and tutor because they saw her magical ability as an asset .

A group of fellow minor aristocrats became intrigued by her reputation for strangeness/illness and even moreso when they became aware of her 'near death experience' as the family called it . They started adventuring and had some successes , though they were mostly doing it for the thrill and to uphold notions of chivalry (i.e nobles protect the common people from threats and disorder like undead arising from desecrated churches and graveyards and marauding goblinoid bands) rather than because they sought knowledge or adventure.

The band broke up after a harrowing experience with a wight in a barrow tomb they'd decided to explore 'for fun' , which left him/her with an even greater dislike of necromancy and claustrophobia and (s)he made a show of leaving the court to become a lay brother/sister of Desna's clergy . Several more years passed and she eventually uncovered and, with the help of the church, brought down a cult of 'Desna' that revolved around sacrificing worshippers to sanity-destroying entities from beyond the stars and was led by a suitably evil conjurer/summoner instead of the necromancer she expected. This corresponds with a period of study of Elemental Air and the heavens as well as growing up of the Fly spells in accordance with Desna's beliefs

Her fame started to spread more widely after this and one of her former adventuring companions sent him/her a relative to train as an apprentice , figuring that it would be a lot cheaper than having a live-in tutor (her credit at court being little) and that if she went on to do more heroic things their relative would gain glory by association. Ostensibly of course this was 'a mark of friendship'

Around this time she attached herself to a patron , using her aristocratic upbringing and magical ability as credentials while her birth family distanced themselves further from her for displaying 'mercenary' behaviour and continued to further the aims of the church of Desna (which in turn made use of her growing small-time and respectability)
This is perhaps a good time for her to have moved to Elgondine and sought the service of your patron ? She would also have been interested in finding out more about conjuration as a result of her experience with the cult

I haven't thought much more beyond this . I'd like to have her foil a incident involving charm spells and a suitable monster (harpies are my favourites) but she needs a few more daring deeds of heroism

I've also just come to realise that the character might work well as an Oracle of the Heavens or a similar domain . Obviously as Leshok suggested her couatl patron would have been behind her work for the Church of Desna

Thoughts/critiques ? Roughly I think she'd be around level 7 or so with this , so I need to emphasize more heroic stuff in the future as she grows in power as a wizard

Male Human Fighter 10 (Free-Hand Fighter), Chevalier 3

Okay, I believe I am finished. I am considering dropping the Improved Shadow effect off my armor (cause it sucked up 15k) and putting that towards more potions and other magical items, but we'll see. Maybe some advice? I initially went with the Improved Shadow because I was already planning on having a very low AC penalty, so having some bonuses to stealth would make me a more versatile fighter than just "I walk in the front door. Everyone hears me. Roll initiative." But then again, the sword and armor sucked up so much of my initial funds that I barely had enough left over to buy anything cool.

Bonzo....at your level power attack gives you a -4 to attack, and +8 to damage, further if using your weapon 2handed it is -4 to attack, +12 to damage fyi. i noticed you were not calculatin it correctly.

Oh yeah. I only calculated it to lvl 10, cause that's what I had to do for all of my fighter abilities. Thanks for catching that, I'll rework the math.

Quick question, two-handed weapons get 1.5 strength bonus, yes? If I have a strength bonus of +7, that would be a total strength bonus of +10? (half of 7 is 3 because we round down, I think).

Read the last two posts I put in the old thread. Character and introduction is there.

So far I see the following:

Bonzo - fighter
Lazar - paladin
Adrien - wizard (abjurist)
Navior - wizard (illusionist)
Brax - ranger
Talomyr - cleric
Kalderaan - summoner
Lost Soul - ??

Sound about right?

I believe Talomyr has levels in Rogue, which will help with magical traps. We have healing from myself (UMD with wands/scrolls), Talomyr, Brax, and Lazar.

This actually looks like quite a well-balanced party (which is much easier with eight party members).

I look forward to gaming with you all.

The woman Jholanna was not well known by the people of the nearby village. She was known to be a hermit, rather young as most hermits go, plainly dressed, friendly enough to those who visited her, but rarely seen outside her secluded cliffside dwelling which faced the southern sky and the setting and rising sun. It's one feature was that of an odd scarecrow formed of apparantly battered and dirty armor that she placed on her pitifully small field. She appeared one day, trailing a coffin whom most believed was that of a loved one, tended with the care usually accorded to a dead spouse so they assumed she was a widow. When asked about it she returned a silent look from which pain and loss ebbed from her eyes so strongly that no one asked twice. She would on occasion come to town to trade for supplies with modest but surprising amounts of coin. She was counted by some to be a witch after healing two children who injured themselves near her dwelling. As she kept to herself, her sudden and unnanounced disappearance was met with sorrow by some, relief by others.

It was the predawn. Jholanna woke as she had on other days, preparing a simple meal eaten with silent meditation. It had been days since she last spoke, which was not uncommon as she rarely sought company and even more rarely had visitors. She would speak sometimes at the grave, but one ritual she never missed was watching the dawning sun. But on this day, the silent reverie rolled over her thunderstruck in sudden revelation. Silently she walked away from the cliff, to the grave she had dug and placed her beloved as it seemed.. an age ago.

"Once more I have been called, to vision, to fight, and perhaps not to return, but to finally join you. To break that separation when you chose the rest you had earned, and left my heart desolate. Beloved, wait and watch over me."

With that, she went to the field and took down the scarecrow. She disassembled it and took the filthy armor down the stream and washed away the disguising mud to reveal it's golden gleam. From beneath the stream she reached down digging in it's bed... finally pulling out a shining great golden blade... PUtting it in the sheathe she had brought. she paused for one more minor task.

Stranger if you read this note, it will be that I shall not return to this dwelling. Abide there as you choose as long as you bring no harm to those who dwell nearby. All that you find within is yours to use and share. In return I ask only one favor, that you do not disturb the rest of She, my beloved who rests here.

The Sunwalker.

Hit Points for Eidolon = 9d10 + 10 (max @ first level) + 10 (Con modifier) + 10 (Toughness feat) = 84

Core rules would be that they all get average HD so for the Eidolon it's 5.5 hit pts per die including it's first. Add them together and round up the final number.

Ruling Leshok? I took max at 1st and rolled for each additional HD, like a PC.

Currently it is only a +9hp differnce in my favor.

ruling is we will go with the Core rules on the eidolon's HD

Lost soul will be playing a Wizard/rogue arcane trickster.

Brynn - I like the new avatar much better. I added up your gear and see about 10K+ still on the table. I'll gladly help you spend it if you want. ;D

LazarX - thanks for the heads up on the HD situation. I fixed it in my profile.

Leshok - Sojourn is ready for review.

Light is a 0 Level spell on our caster's lists. Darkvision is a 2nd lvl arcane spell, for other magical darkness there are other methods.

One of my domains is Travel, so we'll have access to teleport, fly, dimension door etc.

Team- assume nothing when it comes to what you should expect ;)

flying won't save you from the giant rape-rocs of the ugbugnug mountains and high bonus to "grapple"

nor will seeing in the dark save you from the mystical glow-worm of the 9th dimension, which gives you a +5 to any reading based check while fighting it.

and above else....nothing will save you from the dreaded tri-carrotopsus, the prop comedy dinosaur!
