Adding Freeport as a location in the AP?

Does anyone have any thoughts about how easy or difficult it might be to add Freeport as a location in this AP? Not for questing, necessarily, but as a reachable area.

Thanks!

Once the campaign gets underway, you're pretty locked into the region.

Before book 1 starts, it would be perfectly natural to start in Freeport and/or run a prelude in Freeport. You wouldn't want to gain too much XP, but otherwise, this would be seamless and actually quite logical for a number of reasons.

Now, if you're willing to uproot Freeport from Varisia and otherwise make a few changes, it wouldn't be too disruptive to replace Eleder with it (though you'd lose out on the racial-drama). So you'd run the book 1&2 interlude in uprooted-Freeport, and the first part of book 2 there as well.
(Of course, this idea is not compatable with the previous idea.)

Once you get into the middle of book 2... no. There is no way to use it that would work, even with heavy setting-surgery. It would just break the campaign's theme to have access to it from that point.

Hope that helps!

The only way I could see it working is if you replaced the Shackles pirates with Freeport pirates, but that would open it's own can of worms.

I couldn't see the two coexisting.

Thanks you kindly for the advice. ^_^

I'd like to give my players some options from the Freeport Companion, and ideally have the Freeport location at some point- the prelude option might work there.

Edit: Y'know, I'm going to add the words Serpent's Skull Adventure Path in here in case anyone wants to use the search function for this topic. =P

Decided to resurrect this thread, because I've been considering the same thing myself. Freeport has some elements that would work fine with Serpent's Skull, like a mythos involving Serpent-Folk.

I'd likely work it in as an Expansion, however; shifting the AP's exp progression to Slow, and adding more adventures around Freeport, connected to working with the various factions.

So would you start things in Freeport? Maybe that's where the PCs meet and embark on their initial voyage? Would they be able to revisit after chapter one before starting the race? Without radical changes that would probably be their last chance in Freeport until someone learned how to teleport, as far as I Can tell.

Or if the PCs don't have access to teleport, their factions or patrons would need to have it available.
You could start things off in Freeport (instead of Eleder) and then continue the adventure inland as written. Then maybe later on, the PCs are needed back in Freeport to handle some trouble. Their faction (or other patron) arranges their teleport back from their base camp in the jungle.
Maybe this even happens on a routine trip when they're returning very valuable artifacts back to Freeport (that they don't want to risk sending overland via the normal supply caravans). This isn't written into the adventure, but it would make perfect sense to add it if you wanted to get them back to the city later. PCs are sent along to guard the artifacts, run into another plot in Freeport and need to deal with that before returning to their base camp in the jungle. Shrug.
But as others have said, once you leave the coast in book 2, you're deep in the jungle for the rest of the AP unless you teleport back.
