I do not know the alignment of the Northern deities that voted Yes, but I guess that Heimdall might be LN and Sunna LG, maybe Hoder LN.

So those would make good culprits, especially Heimdall yes

Interesting. I just noticed that 9 deities voted Yes and 9 voted No. The same number as the alignments. Not sure this is a coincidence

Raven,

It's a coincidence until proven otherwise.

In D&D 3.X, per Deities and Demigods, at least, Heimdall was LG.

I could see this being a different interpretation, though - not all the deities listed were listed in that book - I can't find Sunna or Hodr, actually.

Hodr or Hoder? Eh, same dude, either way. :D

(Specifically, I can't find them... in D&D. I know what the myths are. :D)

9 days without a new strip

I miss the good old days of a few weeks ago, when it was a new strip every 4 days :-)

Yeah when it gets like this I tend to forget about it for a few months and then come back and catch up.

How do you achieve this epic feat ? Did you sell your soul to a multitude of fiends a sliver each ? Even the waters of Lethe do nothing for me here

1 person marked this as a favorite.

LMAO I use substitution technique and fill its missing space with something else.

VM7, before you drift away...

New strip is up!

That's an awesome last panel.

Also, I love how Haley is able to get inside an enemy's head.

Haley is really, really good at that.

That’s a wonderfully paced strip

Haley just knows how villains work because her dad was never good at it. :p ;)

Plus you know, Elan's dad.

I like how the lack of dark vision stops them from seeing the vampires.

If kind of feels like one of the first ones where Roy walks into the poison trap with bees.

How'd he cast that many spells?
Even if he can somehow get the spell in a domain slot and it low enough level that he gets it 5/day, you'd need a wisdom in the high 40's to cast 11 of the same spell.
I get that OotS is fast and loose with the rules, but that's kinda stretching it...

*shrugs* Maybe he used metamagic to prepare it in some of his higher slots and taught it to the other vampires as well.

He made a bunch before as well. It may be the spell in the staff was a Mass version?

I don't know if this is referencing an actual spell or not.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Regardless, it's now OotS version of 30 days of Night.

1) scrolls

2) pearls of power

3) higher level spell slots (no metamagic feat needed; just prepare higher slots)

4) metamagic slots to lower the level (that's only in Pathfinder, though there are ways to get similar effects in 3.X)

5) research/create a "mass" version of the same spell (probably doesn't care about really learning the base one, because it's already in his staff; that last picture aside, I could see them not having passed more than 30 feet or so of bodies {I couldn't actually find rules for timing related to research})

- 5a) widened version of the same (pushes it up to 60 ft.)

There are a number of possibilities.

Nice catch, though, as I hadn't counted the corpses!

This also however means Durkula is vulnerable to sunlight currently. Hmm... If they can manage to lure him above ground...

Love the title too

Now we just need someone to play Josh Harnett for the OotS. ;)

OK that one was good. Also they have got to learn to stop talking right in front of the enemies... To be fair however I have yet to teach my party that as well.

I wish for a new strip

Based on my previous track record, surely a new one will appear today or tomorrow ;-p

Apparently, he was just waiting for you to accuse!

New strip is up!

1102: For the Duration.

So, that means V is 17th level. Interesting.

I can't help but feel the little dwarven girl is either doomed, already a traitor, or fated for something... grim.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Eh. I don't think the dwarf cleric is DOOM...but she probably won't grow into a side character.

But yeah 17th level is how I figure V can do 8th level spells now.

That and a little better planning might have worked for them. But we'll see.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

V has used force cage before on the psion. that was some time ago too.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I believe the first use was against the dragon shortly before V's deal.

17th level spells that persist for 34 hours - at two hours per level, that makes him 34/2 = 17th CL, i.e. 17th level.

That's a really daggum powerful wizard, by-the-by. XD

In news of weird(ly awesome~!) things the fandom keeps track of, uses of forcecage in the comic.

He's used it against the black dragon (when the dragon sought vengeance for her son; comic 627; waaaaayyyyy back in 209), in the fight against Zz'dtri (when ZZ'dtri had nearly insurmountable SR; comic 795; back in 2011); and against Laurin Shattersmith (the epic caster fight; comic 935; back in 2013).

Curiously, the spell has never worked out for him. In two of the three fights the caster in question has teleported out - in the first, the dragon used antimagic field to just... walk out.

The others hallucinated that he'd used it to great success in the Girard room (when the Order was trapped in a hypnosis trap; comic 886; again, in 2013).

It remains to be seen if this is the first time it will have been truly useful (it was debatably useful in the fight against Lauren, causing her to expend resources, but not for its hypothetical "real" purpose).

That's fair. We know his familiar has an orange ioun stone (again, from Lauren Shattersmith), but does that transfer to V? I've forgotten by now if that was ever resolved in some way.

We know his minimum level is 15 - it's been 15 since at least 2009 when he fought the dragon and used that spell (it may have been that high since before then, but I don't keep as solid a track) - the question, though, is if he has ninth level spells.

According to this, he's level 16 - I don't know when that was last updated, though, or what it was relevant, toward.
(Seems it was relevant toward the battle with Lauren?)

... aaaaaaaaaaaaand just found the answer. There we go. 17th CL, 16th level, looks like.

EDIT: other source

V can just dismiss the Forcecage

There are at least 16 vampires left

The girl might end up a willing vessel for Durkon's soul (and Cleric levels) if it escapes Durkula's grasp

Can these vamps go Gaseous? If so, Forcecage isn't going to slow them down long....

Looks like he used the solid box version rather than the true cage. Suffocation may be an issue after the first few hours, though.

While it looks to be 20ft tall, the appearance is that of the solid wall version. Maybe V had it metamagic'd to be enlarged.

Widened (Enlarge increases range), which by RAW would not affect forcecage (it is limited to certain shapes of area effects - lines, emanations, bursts, and spreads), though of course Rich does not have to stick to the rules 100%...

I think it's just not sticking to the grid (10 feet is three meters, i.e. width of my room, it seems to be a plenty of space for a small group).

Am I the only one who thinks Rich planted the ioun stone just so he could boost V's level for this spell so that he could write the "Thirty-four hours" vs "Twenty-four hours" too much information bit ?

Alright I think it is time for me to disappear from the comic for awhile. that and one other that hasn't re-posted for a week. give them some time to build some content.
