So I'm planning my campaign's version of the Flood Festival and working up things for the players to do, and one of the things they've enjoyed in the campaign so far is a half-orc, Barg, running a food stall called Barg's Meat on a Stick. (Meat on a Stick actually shows up on one of the offical maps, too; I think it's near Town Hall in the Ch.5 riot map, though I don't have the maps handy to check.) I'm thinking I'll have Barg run a contest during the festival called "Name That Meat", with a low cost entry fee and a small prize. What I'm trying to figure out are how the mechanics will work. (I'm running the game in the 3.5 ruleset, btw.)
My first thought is that I'll just run it as a series of Wisdom or skill checks. Players with ranks in Knowledge (nature) or Profession (cook) could use that instead of a straight up Wisdom check. I'm tempted to say that they can get a +2 to their check for every 5 ranks in Survival, too. Then I'm thinking that any player who decided to take the challenge would pay a small fee -- maybe 5 sp? -- and would make a series of three checks, consecutively DC 10, 15, and 18, to identify three different meats. I'll really cut loose in describing the meats. Anyone who made all three checks successfully would win a small prize and some sort of silly bib from Barg.
I'm hoping someone else might have other useful ideas for me. Any thoughts?

There are other threads about this, where I stole Crater Ball from, it's basically Water Polo in the lake. I made up a duel, and Archery contest, a wrestling contest, then of course, you must have the drink down the flood. I made the drinking contest like the NCAA basketball tournament, a field of 64, with many of the named NPCs participating. each round is at a different bar, with the drinks getting progressively stronger, symbolized by a Fort save. I also have a foot race, a swim race and a riddling contest. Basically each temple and noble house sponsors an event, then of course, the Demonskar Ball, which you can find a great write up of here

@Patman: I think I wasn't clear enough. I've read a lot of those threads too, and I'm using them in my campaign. I'm specifically asking whether anyone has a different or additional suggestion about how to run a "Name the meat" challenge. But thanks!
And KenderKin, every meat in this contest will be "mystery meat", at least until a player identifies it! :-) And I intend to make the meat descriptions very mysterious indeed.
