Liberty's Edge

As the man is observed and seems to be just starting to wake up, the small creatures turns and flies towards him, its small stinger extending once more.

The thing is clearly going to go sting him again, any of you can take an action before it gets there if you wish to interfere or take advantage of its distraction.

Male

If I am awake enough:

The Figure sits up eyes as wild as his hair. One hand extends towards the creature. "No mother I wil not go to school today!

Surge on the sting-thing. Bull-rush 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15Target is moved away from me 5' on success and 5'more for every 5 that my attack beats its CMD

If not I contemplate the coming withdrawl symptoms.

Hearing voices after days of fear, Larayn steps out of her hiding place and stumbles towards the group.

Trusting his instinct over Kend and Kathrine's alternate suggestions, Karth deftly steps into the things path and grabs it even as it attempts to dart between his legs.

Grapple Check
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

"In any case, being stung certainly cannot help him."

Sleeping poison; wrestling with this thing can only end well.

Liberty's Edge

As Kathrine stands back to keep an eye on the corridor while the others secure the room and deal with the odd creature, the door not far to the east creaks open with a middle aged woman stumbling out. She doesn't appear to be injured, though she does look quite worn.

The woman comes into view just as the odd creature makes its move, zipping surprisingly quickly towards the man on the bed though Karth is suddenly beside it, snagging the small thing out of the air easily though it thrashes wildly.

All of the distraction seems to have kept the creature from the sleeping man just long enough for whatever kept him down to begin to wear off and Karth's grab keeps it from stopping him from coming to. As if waking from some nightmare he sits up upon the bed, his hand outstretched as a rush of water rises up from the cracks in the stones of the ground and washes over the wrestling pair, the wave powerful enough to rock the two though they hold their ground.

Going to roll initiatives since the thing is trying to attack now.

Creature 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Karth 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Larayn 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Occa 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Kathrine 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Kend 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Zeldin 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Zeldin
Kathrine
Karth
Kend
Larayn
Occa
Creature
Errigal
Buckwell

Zeldin, you are up followed by Kathrine. For ease of a complicated combat, I'm just putting Errigal and Buckwell at the bottom of the round with the creature.

I don't mind a bit of exaggeration of what can reasonably said in 6 seconds during combat(villains have to monologue, right?) so feel free to figure out who the new folks are as you respond.

With the reason of a trapped animal, Zeldin regards these 2 newcomers as foes, and crouches defensively. His nerves are clearly rattled and the sparks dripping from his fingertips give him away.

He does not seem to notice Karth's struggle with the animated fey potato fairy. If you had asked me a week ago if I would ever combine those words like that I would have bet everything against! :D

Zeldin is readying an action if either of the strangers make aggressive movements towards the group.

Liberty's Edge

Alright, while Zeldin waits, that puts you up Kathrine. Followed by Karth.

Map

Female Human Polearm Master Fighter 1

Kathrine's eye dart back and forth between the room and the woman who seems to step out of nowhere. She almost decides to ignore the woman and step into the room before Karth catches the small darting... thing, and keeps it under control. So she turns back to the strange woman and points her Fauchard at the girl.

"Stop right there! Who are you?"

Liberty's Edge

Karth, you and Kend are up, followed by our two clerics.

Bluh, grappling rules.

Grapple check to maintain the hold (+5 circumstance bonus included)
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
He also pins the creature as part of the standard action to maintain the hold.

Karth tightens his grip on the creature, giving it a great bear hug as he maneuvers the creature and his body to keep the stinger away from him. The sight is almost comical - the tall man clutching the tiny fairy almost as a small girl would clutch a doll to her chest.

Liberty's Edge

Karth keeps a good hold on the odd little creature, holding it to his chest with the twitching stinger pointed out as is struggles against him. It seems he has a pretty firm grip on it however.

Kend, that puts you up. Larayn and Occa are after that.

As a note for the newer folks, I don't mind if you post a bit out of order since that can make things go more quickly. Once the next person in order posts, I'll catch up all the actions in correct order with a summary. Normally thats easier if you put some contingencies(I'll target this creature, if its down, then I do this instead, ect). If circumstances ever change in an unforeseeable way obviously I will wait for you to change your action.

Male

The man in the blue striped sleeping robe leaps out of bed.

"Watch out for that sting!"

As he moves the robe opens for a moment and you see his body is covered with puncture wounds. Some are quite old.

"Here use this." The figure grabs a thick quilt from the bed and flings it over the struggling pair.

hit roll if needed 1d20 ⇒ 19. I expect there will be a penalty as a quilt is an exotic weapon.

The figure probably did not intend to drape the two odd-sized combatants. But the poor man in blue is clearly unwell.

His legs collapse under him as he moves and he sprawls onto the floor.

Liberty's Edge

I'll treat the quilt as an improvised net without the trailing rope so you can entangle with it.

With that roll i might even have a chance!

To Katherine;Larayn, I have been trapped here 3 days, I am not looking to fight you. Let me help

Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian (Superstitious)

Watching as Karth catches the flying potato Kend wonders if it is safe, but seeing Karth is managing for the moment Kend looks around for something to restrain the creature with. Just then he hears Katherine call out to someone, and he turns and heads for the door to see what is going on, confident Karth can handle the tiny creature.

Move to the entrance way, weapons in hand are a warhammer and throwing axe.

Liberty's Edge

Spoiler:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Zeldin
Kathrine
Karth
Kend*
Larayn
Occa
Creature
Errigal*
Buckwell**

Kend falls back to the entrance, investigating the sounds coming from that way as the struggle goes on behind him, ready for any combat.

The woman approaches a bit closer to Kathrine, though she keeps herself peaceful as she speaks.

Improvising, Occa wraps the cover around the little creature in Karth's arms, the thick material limiting its struggles somewhat, though the stinger is still long enough to poke through the blanket.

It thrashes more wildly for a moment, trying to escape from Karth's hold, but proves unable to even begin to get away.

Errigal advances on the creature, bringing out his whip as he does, readying to strike in case it gets free.

Buckwell doesn't have a lot of options at the moment, the fight isn't going badly enough it needs a bless, no one is hurt, so he is just going to delay at the moment.

Zeldin, nothing triggered your readied action since the new folks weren't hostile towards the group, so that brings it back to your turn. Kathrine, you and Karth are up after.

Male

The figure clims unsteadly to his feet.
"Good man, hold that thing. It is a guardiann of this place, Serrestique the wizard left it here to defend and tidy this area."

The figure moves to the wardrobe and opens it.

"My name is Occa by the way. Now where did it put my clothes...."

Seeing that Larayn is blocked from the room by 2 capable combatants, Zeldin turns his attention to Occa. Wait! Zeldin says strongly. How did you get here?

Zeldin Tarr wrote:

As I don't think this will effect things one way or the other I am posting now.

Action: continue to search for my clothing and/or gear.

"Watch the stinger. It pulls you under faster than a rip tide."

"I came here same as you I expect. Piting my life and luck against the delve. Now either get in here and help or sush, my brain feels like mud and need to find ...."

Liberty's Edge

Just to simplify the introductions, I'm looking at it and the creature has to get -extremely- lucky at this point to escape the grapple, especially while entangled. We can slip out of combat rounds to let you all interact more freely. It will eventually break free, but you have time to act as you will for probably a minute or two, assuming you don't simply release it or do something that incapacitates it.

Male

This is a good idea. So long as Karth doesn't let go we should be safe.

The figure continues to search for his clothing and gear. If he finds his clothes he will step behind the bathing screen to change.

Beloved leader:
Two quick questions. 1,what is the current date and when did I first enter the delve. 2, what am I finding as I search?

"I entered the Delve with a group calling itself 'Occam's raiders'. I had nothing to do with the name. It was a group of ne'er-do-well's led by a overconfident Gnome Archivist. He was looking for a library that is supposedly down here somewhere. The rest of the group was just looking for loot. I signed on to try to find a temple to a lost avatar of Gorzeh that was supposedly here long ago."

Occa continues to search as he speaks.

"We got ourselves caught between some goblins and a pair of giant scorpions. We tried to run in here to let the goblins and the scorpions sort each other out. A good plan but there was a rune trap there."

Occa indicates the spot near the doors.

He pauses.

"I don't know if anyone else survived. I think I remember screams but everything gets murky."

“I remember that thing though.” He says pointing to the bundle in Karth’s arms. “One sting and it’s nothing but nightmares.”

If we're out of combat, I assume I don't need to roll to keep the grapple going?

Now with the thing half-swaddled like a newborn, Karth maintains an expression of mild exertion as he occasionally shifts to avoid the sting. "There is a rope in my pack if we wish to restrain it... Though I'm not sure how we would go about that."

With Occa's warning he struggles a little more diligently to keep the critter's pointy bits away from his flesh.

I'm not sure if tying a rope around a... magic potato thing... will do any more good than putting it on a leash, but if anyone wants to try Karth'll try it. I'm not sure if he can draw his own rope without either taking a penalty for not having both hands free or losing the hold altogether.

Liberty's Edge

Karth, I wasn't going to make you roll further for grapples at this point, no. Its essentially at the point where it will need a 20 to break free, so I figure instead of going round by round its easier to hand wave it and assume it would get free with a couple minutes of work unless you do something else. You do need to keep the hold to maintain the grapple though.

It does use its wings to fly and while it has two arms it doesn't have legs, so tying it could certainly at least limit its mobility enough that it wouldn't really be a threat.

Occa

Spoiler:
I am spacing on my month names at the moment. It would be early summer at the moment, when you entered the delve it was spring.

You would find your own gear fairly easily stowed away beside the bed, your outer clothes seeming to have been cleaned and folded on top of your pack. If you do look inside the wardrobe, it is filled with various fine dresses and women's noble clothing, though it looks more than a few years out of style.

Male

Occa finds his pack and clothing.

"Hold onto that thing. I'll just be a moment."

He steps behind the screen to dress.

He emerges a few moments later in traveling clothes and carrying a length of silk rope.

"This should hold the little demon. Unless you want to simply crush it of course."

Occa is normally a nice guy but that potatoe has ticked him off.

On being told to shush, Zeldin makes a sour face, but he complies. He turns his back on the unpleasant man from the bed and gives his attention to Larayn. Guessing her to not be play acting, he moves past Kathrine towrds her and asks if she needs food or water. While he does this he keeps his eyes out for danger in the dark.

To Zeldin: I have been sustained blue man, I do require some rest after these many days and the company of good people. Good cannot be used to describe those I entered here with. Either they have been dispatched by their evil and greed or they may also lurk within these caverns.

Karth will take the offered rope and bind the creature - assuming that's something he can do? - which should give it a DC 23 CMD check to break out of if memory serves. Barring that, he'll hold it while someone else does. Regardless, after the creature is restrained, he'll leave it on the bed and then watch the proceedings.

Male

Occa looks at the bundle of nightmare on the bed, "Ah that's better."

"Now please allow me to introduce myself properly." "As I said before my name is Occa I am a priest to the wind and waves. Sorry about the soaking earlier, but you are dry now so no harm done."

He offers his hand to Karth. "Friends?"

Female Human Polearm Master Fighter 1

Kathrine allows Zeldin to step past her and tend to the new woman as she looks between her and the man in the room, confusion writ all over her face as she puts up her Fauchard. Listening to Larayn's story she asks the most obvious question that pops into her mind.

"Why would you venture in the Delve in the company of evil men Larayn?"

To Katherine: I was interested in exploring the dark parts of the Delve to see if anything could be redeemed to light. These men professed to the same ideals, but after we enetered I realised their only goal was to slay even the weakest of creatures and plunder them. When I separated from them the godess would keep me safe, but I would need others to meet the dark, and now I have found you.

Liberty's Edge

The little potato is easily bundled up with the rope and rolls around helplessly on the bed, its stinger poking out through the blanket here and there as it squirms around.

For the moment here things are quiet, with the creature wrapped in the blanket and tied in that rope you can consider its danger totally passed.

To Larayn: My name is Zeldin Tarr, and I think we would all be safer if you would join is that room there. Zeldin gestures to the fey potato fairy room, I am not certain that we dispatched all the crawlers that kept you trapped.

Zeldin moves back toward the fpf room.

He says loudly, to all but clear means only the newcomers to answer, How did you come? Do you have maps of the way you took to get here?

Karth hesitates a moment before gripping Occa's hand a giving it a firm shake. "Karth," he replies. After another moment, realizing the priest had given more than his name, he adds (unhelpfully) "I'm with them. A tracker," gesturing to the rest of the group.

Well met Mr. Tarr. I am afraid I was not the map-keeper of our doomed band. Occam the archivist took that duty himself. Whatever maps we had either burned or escaped with him. We had not been long in the delve before the running battle with the goblins started. It's pretty blurry but I think I remember a room with a fountain....

"A most timely meeting Karth. Are you tracking anything in particular at the moment? The delve is a magnet to beasts and evil men so I well understand why you trail has led you here."

Zeldin smiles widely at Occa calling him "Mister Tarr". You can call me Zeldin. He is thinking his initial impression had been a bit off and he is inclined to give the chatty man the benefit of the doubt.

Zeldin freely shares a brief synopsis of their adventures so far. In his tale he is rather useless but each of the others shines brightly like a hero of the old tales. He seems to relish telling the tale.

When he is finished, he begins a careful inventory of the room, searching everywhere.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Karth shakes his head in response to Occa's question. "We are merely exploring, hoping to find fortune." He's relieved when Zeldin explains the recent happenings.

He goes through the room more carefully, looking in each item now that its guardian has been restrained.

Perception

Occa retrieves his chain mail and begins the process of putting it on.

'There were just dresses in the wardrobe when I glanced through ealier. Nice but a bit out of date. I think the little nightmare on the bed has been alone for some time.'

'That is quite the tale Zeldin. It sounds like you have explored more that my doomed companions were able to. Tell me did you find any bodies, or any sign of the Raiders? Occam tended to leave a runic R to mark the paths we took.'

Liberty's Edge

Phew, sorry I got slowed down a bit there. Work is being a bear.

Spoiler:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

The gnome and half-elf each give a nod to the newcomers as well, adding their own introductions as they too begin to help in the search of the room. "My name is Buckwell. I have the blessing of fire and some skill in healing." The half-elf flashes a charming smile and touches the barbed whip at his belt. "Errigal. I have skill in a fight and good eyes."

He pauses then and gives a small grin, reaching out to touch the western pillar lightly before giving it a small tap. He looks it over more closely before turning towards the rest of the group. "Something hidden here, the pillar is hollow and there is some sort of hatch on it. Doesn't look trapped, but I don't see a lock either." He tilts his head a bit as he inspects it. "Its round, might be able to spin it.

Looking around the rest of the room doesn't reveal anything overly shocking, though everything is of very fine make, from the drapes to the rugs, the bed and the tub. The clothes in the wardrobes are extremely well made and of fine fabrics, though as reported by Occa they are far enough out of fashion its unlikely that any nobles would likely be interested in purchasing them.

As you search through things in the room the odd little creature starts thrashing more wildly on the bed, obviously angered by this, but it doesn't look like it has any real chance of getting out of the ropes.

No problem, life happens. On we go! Assuming mail is on, all gear found, and no lasting effects from the nap.

"A hollow pillar? Would this not weaken the ceiling? Odd. Well odd is why we are here, so let's try it." Occa moves to help the Half-elf turn the pillar. Guidence and resistance on self and anyone else who is helping.

Liberty's Edge

Ahh, that was a bad description. When I said 'its round and we can turn it' I meant that hatch rather than the pillar.

Male
Tarlane wrote:

I'm good either way. Actions do not change.

Liberty's Edge

When Occa approaches the pillar, its clear that the half elf's eyes must have been top of their game to spot the secret compartment as even knowing it is there the outline is difficult to follow. Still, with a little push and twist the hatch slowly rotates about 90 degrees clockwise before a click is heard, releasing the internal latch and leaving it to swing open outwards.

On the inside of the door, arcane runes are scribed indicating some sort of warding spell though it has obviously been spent and not refreshed.

Inside it appears to be a storage space of some sort, two(different) potions sit on top along with a scroll and key. Beneath is a large pile of neatly stacked papers.

Anyone who casts identify magic will see both potions and the scroll are magical, and nothing else is. DCs to identify the items are below to speed that along.

Potion 1
Spellcraft DC 20 or Perception DC 18(if sampled)

Spoiler:
Potion of Cure Serious Wounds(caster 5)

Potion 2
Spellcraft DC 18 or Perception DC 17(if sampled)

Spoiler:
Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds(caster 3)

If you hit Spellcraft DC 23 on Potion 2

Spoiler:
The potion appears to be spoiled and could have a side effect if taken, though it would likely still function.

Scroll
Spellcraft DC 18 or Read Magic cast

Spoiler:
Scroll of Blur(caster 3)

Among the papers(someone speaks all applicable languages) is:
-[common]A description of a strange steel door with the word 'Desitam' written upon it.
-[draconic]A description of a room with a pit that leads to lower levels surrounded by a wall of force. It explicitly details a secret door in the south west corner and a loose stone which will open it.
-[mix of common and draconic]The remaining pages look to be an impressive amount of varied mundane notes. Many of these include "to do" lists, potion ingredients, spell component lists, and so on. With at least a quick skim it appears the pages above are the only ones of any real interest.

Male

"Hmmmm Desitam or is it DesITam...."

Occa will bbak the key and some of the common notes. I really hope someone can ID the magic.

Liberty's Edge

Larayn can read magic on the scroll. I think Zeldin is the only one who has detect magic, however.

Male

"Oy, come on people we got a dungeon to get killed by here!

Karth, shall we go back to the original plan? Zeldin is referring to opening the door at AF60

Occa:
I do not know the acronym bbak.

Liberty's Edge

Alright, well that means no idea on the potions but Larayn can at least let you all know what the scroll is with a read magic spell.

Is the idea to head back to the large hall and head through the door Zeldin mentioned above, or are there any other ideas?
