Making some spells "Free"

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So, when do we start getting some spells free ?

Say like: (get to choose one spell, usable 3/day)

Humans get to choose = Shield of Faith, Bulls strength, or Magic Vestment
Elves get to choose = Shillelagh, Spider climb, or plant growth
Dwarfs get to choose = Divine Favor, Bears' Endurance, Stone Shape
Gnomes get = Nothing, already have spells ;P
Halflings get to choose = Expeditious Retreat, Cat's Grave, Charm monster

Half elves = see humans or see elf
Half orc's = Enlarge Person, Protection from Arrows, Rage or see humans.

Dont you just love spells :)

My heart goes Shillelagh-la-la, Shillelagh in the mo-orning, whoa-oh-oh, Shillelagh-la-la, Shillelagh in the sun-shine.

Mr. Jones?

Sovereign Court

Well I know that elf monks will be quite happy to be able to cast that ridiculous spell for free.

I want to see a halfling in a cat's grave. ;D

There's another angle from which I was thinking about this:

Instances where if a character has both the cantrip and regular version of a spell prepared, they might get unlimited uses of the more powerful spell. Example: By keeping both mage hand and greater magehand prepared, the abilities of the cantrip are effectively extended.

Since most casters are only capable of keeping 4-6 cantrip memorized (barring extra cantrip feats), you would have a fairly limited number of 'free' spells that you could keep accessing. Still, it could make for an interesting take on the whole 'magic as skill' concept compared to the Vancian 'magic as power' concept.

Cool, cool characters, fun ability's, happy players, what more could you ask for.

Sounds like fun to me :D
