Khalid moves 30 feet south.
Huge branches and overgrown weeds clog the central open-air courtyard of the monastery’s cloister walk. In better times, the monastic priests would have contemplated the open space while circling the cloister, but today it is barely possible to see a few feet into the tangled mess, let alone all the way to the opposite cloister walk. Here and there the brush thins out enough that a dedicated explorer might be able to create a sort of passage, but mostly it is an impassable mess.
Movement through the courtyard counts as difficult terrain due to the undergrowth.

Sabeen |

Is anyone going to try to identify the warhammer? *looks at Sabeen*
Nuveril snatches the hammer away from the witch's contaminating presence. "Excellent," she gloats. "It is fortified with the spirits of his ancestors. They served him; now they will bend to my will and serve me. All hail Nuveril, king-slayer, wielder of the ancestral hammer of the pugwampis." She thrusts the weapon skyward, striking a heroic pose.
Sabeen didn't have the chance and I can't see Nuveril asking her to do it now. Can we assume someone has the chest we didn't open.

Someone could open it, it might contain something useful before we proceed? Is it even locked? I guess we don't have anyone with rogue abilities...

Sajan Krama Sumna |

Which makes it the Barbarians duty to open chests ;). Of course, if we had taken the damn king captive we'd know what was inside and we'd likely know more about the monasterys layout and denizens anyway... *sad face*.
Garden. Lets move on for now. Sajan states flatly, turning ti leave the courtyard and not wanting to waste the time hacking a path through the undergrowth.

Say the word and Grall would certainly open it the Barbarian way. Of course someone else needs to tell him to do it since he wouldn't take the initiative on such a thing.

Sabeen |

That seems to be our weakness. We have 3 party members (Grall, Sajan and Sabeen who aren't iniative takers) and 1 who is a sociopathic madwoman (I'll let you guess which one). We need our holy duo to step up and make our decisions for us :)
Sabeen follows the overgrown courtyard seems boring.

And we will, but investigate the monestary seems like something Sajan seems capable of doing :) but Linah could have paid more attention to the chest. I guess she was preoccupied with the holy texts and assumed the one who found the chest would try and open it.

A sweeping bas-relief sculpture along the east wall depicts five bearded, larger-than-life humans riding the wind with triumph carved upon their faces. Though some of their arms and hands are missing, each is clearly meant to wield a distinctive weapon. One of the five warriors holds a large axe, while another holds a fragment of what must once have been a regal staff. In the distance, an ominous mountain looms over the quintet. South of the wall decoration, two open arches lead into small rooms off the north wall. The west wall is a series of open arches that look out into an open-air courtyard.
from left to right, Kardswann, Pazhvann, Vardishal, Zayifid, and Davashuum. The latter wields the broken staff, while Kardswann wields the strange axe. No other weapons can be seen on the other damaged statues. You recognize one of the figures as Vardishal, the same depicted in the cloisters and ruined nave.

"These figures are representations of legendary genies known as the Templars of the Five Winds. If look here, the carvings bear a name for each genie, engraved near their feet. They are, from left to right, Kardswann, Pazhvann, Vardishal, Zayifid, and Davashuum."

Linah walks up to examine the statue. "This monastary must have been magnificent. I wish i could have seen it in it's prime", she says tracing her fingers across the statue. Then she walks up the closest arch and sneaks a peak inside.

Grall |

Grall moves to the southern end of the group. Weapon is out, he uses his hearing and sense of smell to try and detect anything that might approach. Basically just standing there in silence trying to protect them.

Sajan Krama Sumna |

Ew that Avatar is horrible.
Sajan hovers near Linah and Nuveril, instinctively seeking to protect the females.
I don't object to people giving Sajan orders or anything by the way- he is very much a passive character who will take little initiative.

GM Tanner |
The southern cloister walk abuts what must be the outer wall of the monastery itself. The lengthy wall bears a marred sculpture depicting the five figures from the north cloister mural in battle against numerous creatures of evil demeanor. Several of the creatures appear to be composed at least partly of fire, while others are much more difficult to define, being outright monsters of unknown origin or unusual warriors with weapons bonded into their flesh like organic tools. In the background Pale Mountain looms large, and over it two titanic figures lock in a deadly wrestler’s embrace. One has the demoniac visage of a noble efreeti, while the other is a gorgeous woman who could only be a djinni princess. Opposite the sculpted wall, a series of open arches leads out into an open-air courtyard.

Nuveril |

Can i make a knowledge check untrained?
If so --> 1d20
Only if it's a DC 10 or less; higher than that, you have to have ranks.
"Does anyone recognize the what the wall depicts?", Linah asks as she makes her way to peer into the room to the east.
"It depicts a battle," Nuveril says decidedly, "doubtless one the victors' descendents sing tales of to this day, but not relevant to our mission against the gnolls." She glances through the archways on the eastern wall to see what lies within.

GM Tanner |
My apologies for the long weekend, everyone. It's finals week and I'm ever-so-slightly stressed out :)
This small antechamber was a place for reflection before the monks gathered in the chapter house. Carvings of religious significance to the cult of Sarenrae line the walls, but none seem to involve Vardishal or help in any way to lessen the mystery of the abandoned monastery.

Sajan Krama Sumna |

Sajan raises his hand to signal the others to wait for him to check the next room. Moving as silently as possible, he moves to the doorway and quickly sneaks a peek into the next room.

Not a problem!
Linah advances until Sajan motions them to stop. She studies the wall carvings with a dreamful stare as moves to the doorway.

GM Tanner |
This austere octagonal chamber has a tall roof and an aerie of leering gargoyles perched atop each point where a wall meets another wall. An unholy stench of rotting meat, dried blood, and animal excrement hangs heavy in the air, no doubt from the fine crust of gore, animal carcasses, matted leaves, and guano covering the floor.
Sajan does not see anything. He is also very, very quiet.

Sabeen |

Nuveril shifts uncomfortably under Sabeen's friendly gaze, as she waits impatiently for Sajan to report back, holding her hammer at the ready. "Keep your spirits away from me, witch," she growls quietly.
Sabeen's smile, if anything, gets wider and friendlier.
When Sajan reports back she says in a small voice Where are the animals then?

GM Tanner |
As the luminscent humanoid form enters the chamber, you hear a hiss and squeals from the ceiling. Hideous, bug-like flying reptiles with coloration ranging from rust-red to reddish-brown, with a dirty yellow underside. They each have a proboscis, pink at the tip, fading to gray at its base. The creature’s body is about 1 foot long, with a wingspan of about 2 feet. PICTURE
