ROUND 11 (Part 2) SUMMARY

DM Rolls:

Khalid
Grall
Linah
Sabeen
Nuveril
Sajan

Khalid fires and misses with his crossbow at the pugwampi archers.
Grall viciously slashes the pugwampi king, nearly killing him.
Linah defends herself against the rain of tiny arrows.
Sabeen places a hex of fortune on Khalid.
Nuveril attacks the squirming pugwampi king, bashing in the back of his tiny skull with her madu. With a flanking bonus with Grall, you just made it.
Sajan drops the limp corpse of King Mokknokk and hurls a shuriken at the pugwampi archers, hitting one in the throat and killing it.

King Mokknokk (22 damage, dead)
Pugwampi 1 fires at Nuveril then takes cover. Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5, Damage 1d3 ⇒ 1.

Outwardly, Sabeen watches dispassionately as the barbarian duo deal with Mokknokk.

Assuming the ranged battle is continuing, Sabeen moves east until she has line of sight staying crouched in cover and fires her crossbow at the nearest archer.

Female Human Witch 1

Just a note that Khalid has a fortune hex allowing him to make any d20 roll twice (although I imagine he hits regardless).

Gruhastha grant me patience to show mercy on the witless and the unenlightened... Sajan intones solemnly, chest heaving in fury as he turns his vehement stare from Nuveril and Grall. Picking up the dead king's limp body, he slowly crushes the small head between two massive fists, staring pointedly at the remaining Pugwampi's as he does so and keeping himself poised to react to danger.

Total Defence action, AC23.

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

With spatters of the king's blood on her face (never mind that most of it was from Grall's vicious swing), Nuveril crows victoriously. "Ha! All hail Nuveril, slayer of the pugwampi king! You his minions, wail and tremble!" Exulting, she points her scimitar toward the remaining pugwampis in the balcony, as if to say You're next.

Intimidate 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Apparently, however, the pugwampis above are perfectly aware that the gnoll had more to do with their king's death than did the tiny halfling.

Human Cleric 7 | hp 36/51 | channel 6/7

"Stop bickering", Linah snaps at the trio around the body of Mokknokk. "The enemy is up there on the balchony, not in our group." Then she resumes her defensive stance.

Total defence as a standard action. AC20

Think we're just waiting on Sajan to take his frustration out on something :)

Sabeen gazes up at the roof trying to assess how much if any smoke is wafting upwards into the sky.

Pretty.

ABBREVIATED UPDATE

*rolls online dice*

The pugwampis fail to damage any of the heroes with their tiny arrows.

Sabeen and Khalid each kill one of the pugwampis. Grall misses with his javelin. The fire continues to spread. Only one pugwampi is left.

ROUND 13, FIGHT!

Khalid fires his crossbow at the remaining pugwampi and puts the bolt through its orbital socket. The battle is over...

You do, however, have a raging fire on your hands. Thick, roiling black smoke fills the upper reaches of the chapel. The flames begin to make their way towards the southern balcony.

Nuveril will stomp and beat out any flaming scraps of cloth that fall to the floor.

Through your combined efforts the flames are doused. The black, greasy smoke escapes through the eastern nave, rising into the sky. With a snap, the gnoll-skull chandelier in the center of the room snaps and falls to the floor with a deafening clash. Echoes reverberate throughout the monastery complex. Almost simultaneous with the chandelier, the entire nest-like structure collapses to the floor in a great, smelly heap.

What's that? You say you want to look around the room?

The eastern end of the room reveals the torn-out pages of a copy of The Birth of Light and Truth (Sarenrae’s holy book) strewn about. The altar has been smeared with excrement.

The rotting wooden “booths” are inscribed with religious symbols, but the whole apparatus is in terrible shape and literally crumbles to the touch.

The tent is knit together like a nest composed of interwoven tapestries, sackcloths, sheets, blankets, and other bits of loose cloth. Similar material has been used to create “walls” along the north and west sides of this habitat, as well as along the rafters. The “chamber” within is redolent of body sweat and liquid waste.

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Nuveril covers her nose and mouth with her own not-so-delicious-smelling sleeve. "Lovely temple your sun-lady has here," she chokes out. "So glad we're staying." Uninterested in Sarenrae's religous paraphernalia, she backs toward the chapel entrance, hoping for fresh air from the outside.

Sajan shakes his head in pure awe.

Sajan cannot teach you to move silently no matter he hard he may try... Never mind... the monk whispers softly in response to the crashing and echoes.

Male HP(104/104 or 125*/125*) Gnoll Barbarian 7 - Invulnerable Rager

Have we searched the upper level where the Pugs and the king came from? Now we can take our time we may not fall victum as easily to the loose boards.

Your party searches the entire room. Anything of interest on the upper level appears to have fallen to the floor below.

At the center of the grisly jumble of gnoll skulls, nestled within a mostly dried excised gnoll lung, is an uncut garnet.

From out of the heap of the tent-like canopy you find a small padded chest.

The equipment from the fallen pugwampis includes:

(4) Tiny shortbow
(30) Tiny arrow
(1) Tiny longbow
(1) Small well-made warhammer

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

I believe Nuveril's the only Small character so ...

Nuveril's eyes light up when she sees the hammer. "The weapon of a fallen king," she proclaims, hefting it in her hand to test its weight and balance.

Female Human Witch 1

Sabeen will let the others put out the fire and search although she will wander over and cast detect magic on the loot (unless Linah is doing this).

She is more interested in the pugwampi bodies dragging the most intact one out of the chapel proper and examining it closely under the light from Mr Shiny.

Humming to herself she takes out a sharp little dagger and drives it with force down into the creatures body, skipping aside to adroitly dodge the resulting weak stream of blood.

She examines the insides of the creature with some fascination and after poking around for a time starts to speak in excited tones. Amazing. Its pituitary gland is three times the expected size for a creature of this genus and mass. I theorize that is the source of its localized negative probability field. But it doesn't seem to phsyically warp space, the field operates based on the perceptions of those within the affected area. Its a living example of Crae's theory of sympathetic probability.. She peeters out and her eyes lose their focus. Are there spiders in my hair?

Suggest we leave any more detailed searching or activities til later as Sajan's mage armour is running out. Unless we've taken an hour in which case don't mind.

Linah sighs heavily at the state the pugwampis has left the monastary as she picks up the pages of The Birth of Light and Truth.

Linah looks like a questionmark as Sabeen reports her findings. "No, i there are not any spiders in your hair", is all she manages.

She shakes off her confused and continues. "I did not know that you where gifted with arcane powers, Sabeen. Are you albe to read magic auras? My powers are limited and if you are able to detect magic then i will ask Sarenrae at sunrise to grant me with the ability to aid my companions instead of magical sight."

She looks around at the pugwampis strewn across the monestary floor. "We should move these outside", she says and grabs one and drags it towards the exit.

Will switch Detect magic for Guidance when praying for spells in the morning (when/if i make it that far). And i am also ready to move along.

"We should burn them," Nuveril states firmly once the corpses are outside. "They will attract scavengers which may well slip into the structure, looking for more fare." She produces a flint and steel from her backpack and will set the pile of corpses ablaze if no one intervenes (and assuming they're on sand and not some kind of vegetation that will spread the fire). Survival to set and contain the fire 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

The corpse the feeble-minded one desecrated under the influence of her evil spirit Nuveril pulls away and burns separately from the rest, with her gesture to ward against evil. She takes great care not to inhale any smoke from the smaller fire.

The party disposes of the corpses of the fallen pugwampis. Their bodies produce an acrid smoke, easily visible to the caravan train still camped a mile or so away. King Mokknokk's body in particular sizzles as his obese little body is crisped in the bonfire.

Under the gaze of detect magic, the warhammer glows brightly.

Map update this evening.

Linah helps Nuveril with burning the pugwampis but looks somewhat confused as the halfling drags one of them off to be burnt seperatly. Linah stifles a giggle as she realises what Nuveril is doing.

Female Human Witch 1

The hammer is magical. Sabeen says to the halfing seemingly still oblivious to her dislike.

Sabeen isn't the pro-active type but smoke that is visible to our camp 1 mile away is visible to the gnolls 1.5 miles away. They could have a patrol here in under half an hour so suggest we at least have the mercenaries on look out at the monastery.

Nuveril snatches the hammer away from the witch's contaminating presence. "Excellent," she gloats. "It is fortified with the spirits of his ancestors. They served him; now they will bend to my will and serve me. All hail Nuveril, king-slayer, wielder of the ancestral hammer of the pugwampis." She thrusts the weapon skyward, striking a heroic pose.

Grall looks at her curiously, when he hears her request to hail her over the death of the king he can't help but let a soft growl come to his lips. He then turns his head and continues to lick his wounds to get the ooze to stop from the several arrow wounds that are still bleeding slightly.

Is anyone going to try to identify the warhammer? *looks at Sabeen*

Having disposed of the pugwampis, you venture back into the monastery. You pass through an archway in the southern wall of the nave.

The outer wall of the north cloister passage bears a massive carving (the wall immediately north of your party). The central figure — the heroic man with the pointed beard — preaches to a variety of human clerics from throughout the long history of the monastery. The first image depicts the figure manifesting in a spiritual manner to a small group of pilgrims of Sarenrae. Another shows the figure conversing with a man in religious finery while the monastery itself is being constructed in the background. Thereafter follows a procession of similar poses, each depicting a visit by the bearded man and the leader of each era of the temple. The depictions of these clerics often also bear an identifying inscription, complete with dates that span the last several hundred years. The most recent carving is from thirty years ago, and while ample room remains for additional carvings on the north wall, the last thirty feet or so are completely blank.

Two open arches on opposite ends of the north wall lead out into the ruined nave.
