Amid the cheers and jeers is a laughter that the man I am sure intended to evoke. I glare at the booming voice man and thinking to myself, "I will have words with him about that last part if I make it out of here alive."

I presume you will need to know what we have in our hands at the start of the fight? We can declare that (for the purposes of drawing, etc.) and roll initiative from your say so. That way, we can start the 24 hour clock on moves and know the arena layout before we begin.


Hailing from parts unknown, at over 6 feet tall and 200 plus pounds is Heshlem. His skills are reported to have no equal, and he assaults his opponents without mercy. Beware ye who face Heshlem, for if ye face Heshlem then ye face death.

Heshlem thinks to himself, "I have got to talk to the announcer about that corny opening".


" Ladies and Gentlemen, Today is a Glorious Day! For today, we have two Great Warriors Fighting for your Entertainment!"

After the Introductions, a Few wizards come out, Chant in a Spidery langauge, and suddenly, before your eyes, the Arena Disappears, You can no longer see or hear the crowd, You look around you and see you are in a Grassy Clearing. There are trees to your backs, and some Ruins to the front

The Wizards cast an illusion on the arena to give it this look, from this point, it is technically only you two around, the Crowd will come back toward the end of the fight

Since I was late positng Ill go ahead ant Roll int for you both, then you are free to post your first actions.

How are we dictating movement to you? Letters on the X-Axis and Numbers on the Y-Axis (Example: If we go left to right and top to bottom, then I am starting in square K-11 and Heshlem is in JJ-7)? I'll post my action after Hesflem's move in defference to his winning initative. Also, are we posting our items in hand or are we both starting empty handed?


The mages don't get to pre cast spells, so no weapons drawn. Ill post a better map w/a letter/number grid tomorrow

Now that I know the map insta-appears I will start each fight with my bow in hand. This fight however I did plan to use the scythe so I won't change it

Heshlem is carrying a scythe and wearing chainmail. He runs south behind the tree attempting to use it as cover

After recovering from the Spell, Heshlem Sprints southbehind a Thicket of Trees.
He moves south to Square T40, He Gains Cover.

Rules Lawyer Time: Was that 90' worth of movement. Going by the book, Chainmail (unless there was an error and it should be "Chain Shirt" should restrict the character with a base 30' to 20 feet movement which is 60'(X3) running and 80' (X4) with appropriate feats, no? He couldn't make it to the cover this round but would likely have some obstruction from the ruins perhaps?

With my holy symbol in hand, I will murmur a prayer to Old Deadeye.

Standard Action: For Evil Ginger DM but spellcraft will do too if you have it:
I will cast Shield of Faith. Duration = 1 minute = 10 rounds

Move Action: I will move one square down and three to the right for a total of a 20' single move in Scale Mail. This should land me in K-13 based on the grid of your newest map.

"No sense hiding Heshlem," I say to out loud, "Come and let us face our fate."

Untrained Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6


Chain mail is medium Armor, So his run would be x4, 80 feet, I placed him 2 to many squares to the east(my fault), I'll update for this map.

Heshlem runs 19 squares to the west which should keep him inside the protective area of the Oak Tree.

19 squares would be a movement of 95'? Or were you thinking 16 squares to the west (movement of 80') into the cover of the oak tree south of the ruins? A X/Y coordinate on the map helps keep things clear. Also, to the GM, is there any movement penalty for moving through the underbrush?

Keeping my eyes open, I murmur another invocation to The Great Hunter as I anoint my club in anticipation of the action.

Standard Action:
I will apply my Oil of Shillelagh to my club. Duration = 1 minute = 10 rounds

Move Action:
I will stow my holy symbol leaving a club in hand.

Free Action:
Dropping the empty potion vial (presuming free action), I will use a perception check to see if I can hear Heshlem moving and attempt to pinpoint his location by the sound of his voice. Perception = 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Yeah I meant 16. I assumed the the vegetation was just the top of the tree. If it is vegetation thick enough to impede movement I will have to adjust tactics. I will post my next action after the map is updated.


You're Prob Right, the Vegetation is not that thick, So no movement issues,and I take back what i said about the cover being anywhere in the green, you would only have Cover vs. Haggar in Squares: v24, W24, W23, etc, as long as the tree trunk in between you and Him.

If you Run, it has to be in a Straight line, So you cannot move up to 80' and get Cover this round. Please give me an update

16 squares to the west puts him in T-22 if I am not mistaken? I will base my actions predicated on that. Let me know if that's not accurate as I may adjust. Damn, moving in armor across this area sucks... "clank, clank, clank"... shoulda been a monk. :)

Standard Action:
I will cast Guidance on myself (no divine focus needed). Spells Active: Guidance, Shillelagh (9 Rounds Remain), and Shield of Faith (8 rounds remain)

Move Action:
I will move 20' L-16).

Free Action:
I will take no free actions but wanted to keep the same format. As it makes things easier to separate when things start flying around IMO.

Helshemm has posted and so have I so we're ready a start of round 4 map with this. Ginger, feel free to post that one if you want to move things along.


The Battle Draws near as the Gladiators draw near, studying each other, looking for a weakness. Who will win the Compitation?

I just recently caught the rule on starting off unarmed.

Bloodlust takes over Heshlem, and he puts tactics aside in order to satisfy the crowd.

I take a 5-foot step towards my opponent, take out my bow, and let one arrow fly.

If I miss ignore the damage
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 41d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

As Heshlem releases the arrow a bug flies into his eye. This causes the arrow to fly widely to the right.

"I can't believe this [many expletives]."

Ahh, the joys of first level. My heart stops when an attack is directed my way. :)

Standard Action:
None. See move action.

Move Action:
I will run (3x) movement so that I am adjacent to Heshlem in squaree S-23. That's a total of 60' of movement and since I can't charge (can only take two move actions max on a charge) I will threaten Heshlem's bow wielding self. :)

Free Action:
None

Smirking to myself, I think, "Old Deadeye favors me for that distraction but now I've got to close quickly before he can get off another shot."

Did you take an action that I can't see? As a favor you can say you cast a spell, but spoiler the actual spell. That way I can take my next action.

Whoops, yeah, I should not spoiler the movement as you can see that. The earlier spells were the ones I wanted to spoiler with a spellcraft. I just got spoiler happy.

I moved at a run (3x) movement so that I am adjacent to you in square S-23. That's a total of 60' of movement but not a charge since I could only charge on a 2x movement.


It's cool

Heshlem thinks to himself, "He must either be up to something or very stupid to come running at me like that"

The damage roll represents 3 dice rolls if it hits. I will just add it to the damage from the previous post.
If it misses then you only take 13 points of damage.

I doubt a 15 hits

Hashlem feels his weapon tear into the opponent.
"Your god obviously does not love you, or he would have given you the wisdom to stay away from me, or maybe he loves you so much he wants you to join him as soon as possible. Who knows? I guess you can ask him when you get there."

Yea, I don't see anything wrong with the posts. Game over.

Sprinting Full force at Heshlem, Haggar was hoping to Catch him off guard, withour his Weapon ready. Unfortuntaly for Haggar, Heshlem saw this move coming, and greeted him with the blade of his scythe.


After haggar's Body falls to the gound, sans head, the illusion of the battle ground drops away, Allowing the Roar of the crowd to overcome Heshlem.

After a few moments, a Curious looking Construct comes out. It removed all Haggars Gear, which it piles up neatly. It then hands Heshlem a Bag with 500g. In a Very Strange, gravely voice, it proclaims for all to Hear:

The First battle is over! Heshlem Stands in Glory over his Rival, Haggar! Do not morn for Haggar, for his has moved on to a better place! This shall be recorded on the scrolls of Glory, So all may remember Heshlem's Victory!

Slowly the Device scoops up the Dead Gladiator, and removes his body from the arena.

The Next battle will Take place In a few Momnents..

My next opponent will be sacrifised to my god! Kidney offered and burned! Eyes taken out and feed to crows! Ah, Darkness will collect his soul and serving in eternal darkness my grand master! Ahahaha Laughing in sadistic way, the man moves forward to the arena

Tiiiiiiiiime to get the world Blink!! From the Darkness emerge! From the Shadows was born! He walks and moves silently! He is the one and only true servant of his God! Monk from Ustalav! From Monastery of Night-Crows! Give your applause! He is here to bring the doom!


Gladiator - Combat only

The gladiator steps into the arena, sizing up his opponent. He cracks his knuckles, and ensures that his weapons are ready, but is otherwise silent.

And his opponent! A man with no past and no name! Will this mysterious warrior be reborn here, in blood? Two daring fighters face each other in the arena, but one… will… FALL!


The dented construct returns to the area, Haggar's Blood can still be seen on the Creature, He reaches the Middle of the Arena, and pauses

I present to you, Noble viewers, two more Warriors that are ready to battle for glory, for your pleasure! Varos "Six-Step", and a Warrior that has not Earned his name yet, but hopes to!

With that, the Wizards return, Whispering their Spidery words of Power..

Map One

The Arena falls away, Day becomes night, a Full moon Lights the Battle ground. All around you, the Ground is grey ash, The Bones of Dragons, all snize litter the ground before you

Its night time, but the moon is bright enough to see cleary (no concealment), the Squares with tiny Triangles are rough terain ( 1/2 movement), the squares that look like bones, are walls of bones, 15ft. High

As both Warriors's Dizzyness wears off, Varos, Being used to darkness, adjusts first

Varos looks around and steps fast toward, wondering where his prey might be as he draw his weapon out and jumps to the shadows. Double Move: U-15

Varos thanking his God for the night This is it! He is on my side! Night is around me and I have the advantage

Abandoning the stealth, Varos move out to open field S-7 behind the pillar and takes defensive stance

However, if I am able to hide, here is stealth roll 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
and perception to see Lekku 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Move Action: 30 ft to S-7, Standard Action: Defensive Stance: +2 AC

Sorry, just tired since seems to take long and I prefer now to keep it straight out and let us players decide :) Its fair for both of me and lekku as well others, so I try to keep it in lines: if you see me, you see and thats it etc

Both of you moved in a way that gave you a -5 to your Stealth roll, I'll calc that in

For Varos:

You move down behind the wall, but do not see lekku

DC to see him was 28 (stealth + range)

for Lekku:

As you move down, you pay too close attention to drawing your weapons, and getting a good grip, you don;t see Varos

DC to see him move was 31 (Stealth + range)

Round 2

for Varos:

The pillar Provides Partial Cover, and you do not see or hear lekku.
DC to see him/ Hear him was Way higher than your roll due to conditions(range, wall, stealth)

for Lekku:

You Move and Ready your action, you do not see or Hear Varos
the DC to see/hear him was WAY higher due to conditions(range, wall, stealth)

Moving silently and wondering, where the another gladiator might be, Varos keep moving forward in hope to see something.

DM:

Stealth1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Perception1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Double Move (60 ´ft), to keep full stealth - half = 30 ´ft move in total.
S-7 to N-6

Perception:
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 I'll be keeping an eye out for any tracks that Varos might have left - no real idea where he is right now.


Round 3

The tension grows as the Gladiator's Move about the Arena, But are not able to Locate each other. Suddenly, for a Brief Second Their Eyes lock. Lekku contnues to move back out of Varo's Sight.

For Varos:

You move up next to the pillar, and see Lekku Moving southeast before he Dissapears again. He did not look as if he was trying to hid his movements. However, he did seem to notice you there.

The last place you saw him was Square C12.

As your Moving to e17, you catch a Brief Glance at Varos, Attempting to Hide behind the Pillar. Your eyes Meet before you move behind the
Wall, the last place you saw him was N6

Ahah, found you... Chuckling to himself, Varos takes double movement to H-12 and try to see, if he can still notice the man and trusting to his speed to win

I remain still and quiet, and ready an action to throw an axe if that crazy little cyclops gets close.
For clarification, the throwing axe is in my main hand.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19


Round 4

The thrill of the comming fight starts to Build in each of our Gladiators, They Both know they are drawing close to trading blows

For Varos:

You move up to the Square, Listening for Lekku's Breathing, But the wall where you last saw him is keeping any sounds from you.

For Lekku:

I assume when you say "Close" you mean 30" (your last range) It won't matter this round, but please post what range yuo want to cover with your readied action

Hiding behind the wall, With your axe ready, Varos doesn't come into view, However, you do Hear his footsteps Closer than when you saw him before, but you are not able to pin-point where he is, other than from the NE

DC was based on sound of footsteps, +wall +range, you where close enough to Hear him over the wall, but not pin-point the exact square.

Lekku map 4

Watchers:

varos still does not know where Lekku is, However, lekku did barely Hear Varos' footsteps, but was not able to tell the exact square.

Same thing - still and quiet; ready an action to throw the axe if he comes within 35 ft. (distance to edge of wall)

for Varos:

You still are not sure where Lekku is, your now against the wall you saw Lekku move Behind.

just as quickly as you heard him, you loose track of Varos, Although you do stand ready to hurl an Axe at him if he Comes Close.

Also, Go ahead and Roll your attack and add to the Spoiler for Readied actions. you'd take a -3 to the attack roll for the throw for being x3 the Range.
