Oh, I am so trembled now. How to use that point hm... for Villainity? Get her to believe and listen to me. You know, that Evil priestesses looks nice in leather, yah? :P

Aaah! Now I know ... +1 point for my words to have deeper impact, to cause her shaken and truly believe my words, to loose part of her hope. I will hereby also declare to use another point, +1 = which I will reveal later "Ahahaha" 'Evil music playing behind'

Woman... you are being too hallunicated or too crazy. Get a grib of reality, since everyone in this ship is lonely or having hard time! Who are you to tell me, what it means? You are also wasting space here, which could be used for someone else?

Eyes glowing now in the darkness with deep red, Avion keeps pummeling the woman with the words You are selfish, you are despicable! Here, all alone under the deck, you shackle yourself to darkness and evade everyone, while others are trying to do something for themself and others. You hide here in darkness, using this space only for yourself, when people are suffering from the lack of space. You think that they should bring you food and feed, when we have children and small amount of resources.

Avion brings his head closer and now whisper to her ear Do you... want me to... kill you? I can end it all here now: your suffering, your despair! I will send you to world, where you can be in eternal darkness or... pauses for moment and then spin the woman and look at his hooded cloak and raise it up to look her in the eyes You can come out from there, help others and be happy... more reason to be alive, isn´t it? To have people to talk, to feel the warmth of the body, Feel the sun in your skin and breath fresh sea air. Even I try to do my best and survive, throwing aside my own hate and will, for the good (for whom will it be in the end) to survive in this journey

+1 another point comes here!

Thinking something and grinning now his trademark!evil smile I will succumb this woman to evil! You will not escape ahahaI need an assistant, you know... people don´t trust me and for good reason. You in the other, have no reason. You don´t care, don´t you? I will keep you company, I will teach you something useful. Being next to me and listening people worries, after all being a Surgeon of ship is not just a simple task. I will teach you about the undeads and their weaknesses and strenghts? Why, will you ask? We got recently attacked by undeads and those will most likely happen also in future. I am not always there, and for sure, party needs someone who knows something about them. Having 2 skillful people, able to heal, is definete plus for this ship. I am offering you a chance to get out of here, have a chance to slowly interact with others and get rid of this darkness. What will you do? To just into deeper one, where you will not escape ahahaha! as Avion watches her with more intensive look

The screaming of Kripya and getting rid of hand did not flinch Avion. However, Avion realised that something might happen

DM: Kai'itza you are now free to act.

DM: Avion is paused for the moment as we deal with those coming into the hold area.

Liberty's Edge

Narration: Location - The Lower Hold Area.

DM: For Kai'itza - Suny (moments after Kai'itza) - Others.
There is little light in the lower hold area, a few torches sputter light from the scattered sconces mounted at irregular intervals.

Entering the main storage hold you see three of the undead Avion controls guarding the door located near the bow of the ship. There is clearly something happening in the room behind the closed door.

There is something very wrong, and very different, from the undead you saw only a day before. They look more dangerous now. Their eyes glow a pale red and the mist that typically swirls about them seems thicker.

The trio of undead take stock of those coming down into the hold, no longer stiff, and slow. They regard you with a sinister glare, one filled with a feral intelligence and hiss loudly in your direction.

Squaring off in front of the door they take to a defensive stance, their claws flexing as they wait for you to cross an unseen boundary line.

One of the undead clutches a makeshift club, a hefty, gnawed, bloody stump of what was once an arm. It makes a gurgle that can be construed as laughter.

Female Halfling Druid 3

"From that direction I think." Nerine explains to the Captain, gesturing in the correct direction. That's when she hears the muffled scream and notices both Kai and Suny's hurried movements.

"Too many bad things are happening today Captain." She says as she runs to join the others, taking her spear in hand in case it's needed. She calls out for someone to get Olek just before she enters the hold.

"I see we should have destroyed you when we took out the others." She says calmly as she takes in the undead's new appearance. "Would any of you disgusting aberrations of the Natural Order care to tell us why your keeping us from getting to your foul master?"

Male Half-elf, aquatic Swashbuckler 3

With much to do, and little time to accomplish them all, the Captain literally soared back up to the helm, and began to bark commands.

"Secure the deck! Prepare for a swift change in our headin'! We might find us some new folks to talk to!"

He slipped his hands around the wheel's gentle handles, and with a fine touch of a gentleman... he slammed his palm into the knob, and forced that wheel to buck the ship to [port/starboard], for a new heading had been created - and that meant there was no time to lose.

The other reason, he thought that way? If a child were to end up dead, out here, who knows who else may yet be dying from whence it came?

Using the most logical choice you can think of, you turn the ship into what you think is the opposite of the way the current seems to be moving in. Logically if something came "downstream" as it were, you'd find it's source. At least that is your line's of thinking, and it would make the most sense.

Liberty's Edge

Narration: The lower hold Kai, Nerine, Suny, and possibly Olek/Kyre.

A sense of vertigo comes over you as the hull seems to shift, the ship is clearly pitching a hard turn into a new direction. The undead are itching for you to make a move. They eye you, clearly sizing you up. Mist spreads out from their Mouth, ears, eyes, even their pores in an increased rate and swirls over and around their limbs and chest.

F Exotic Elf TBA

Just for edification. Suny, Kai, Olek and Kyre are now in the hold and seeing the terrible trio guarding the door?

Stepping lightly around the larger form of Kai, Suny's keen eyes (Superior Low Light Vision) take in the scene. To one of the crew-men who are also jostling for a look she instructs,

"Head t' th' Lizard folk cabin and get me knives. Hop to it, mate!" She says this over a shoulder, not taking her eyes of the three undead. As they person scurries away she steps forwards a little, the better to gauge the layout of the room.

Feeling the ship heel in her turn Suny instinctively braces.

Ref Save:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Steady against the ships turn she calls to the creatures before the door,

"Okeys there you lot. We's crew an' you be cargo. I'm only goin' t' say this once, 'Step aside'." She waits and watches for the reaction from the creatures.

Assuming none

"Well, we c'n be doin' this the easy way," And she grins, "Or we c'n be doin' this the hard way....either way I know I'm goin' t' be havin' fun!" She turns her head slightly.

Suny, everyone, a reminder from oct 1st's post.

Please don't control my npcs. You control yourself and that's all. When you dictate what my npcs do, I get cranky. This is a friendly reminder I don't approve of that. My npcs may not want to fetch for you, and may not be jostling for peep space :) I asked you all not to do this earlier in the OOC thread already.

@ anyone:
...just try to shy away from controlling my NPCs with your actions if possible. Occasionally I see things some of the NPCs may not actually do or react to, in the fashion I designed them. It's not a big deal and no one is being singled out. Just a blanket statement.

Not a huge deal, but some of the crew isn't as naive or green as I may have portrayed them. A Drow for example is not impressed with a rebuking as say Gunny would be, and was. :)

DM Narration: None of the crew seems to be in any kind of rush to help you out Suny. You notice a few eye rolls from those on the level above. (The more monstrous race's area.) If this means you have left your knives behind...ops, that was unfortunate! /evil laugh.

As Suny squares off and takes a step further into the room, taking care to keep her balance, the sextet of smoldering red eyes lock on to her daring her to pass some imaginary line. The beasts look like they are savoring their anticipation. Each breathe now generates small puffs of twisting smoke that writhes like a wounded serpent in the air around them.

Kai's eyes seem to glow in the darkness as his dark vision make it easy to take in the scene. His pose is frighteningly calm as he hefts his javelin and raises his shield in a defensive stance. Seeing the remains of the arm Kai's eyes become even more narrowed and dangerous as he growls something in draconic.

Draconic only:

It was more a jab at Suny this instance :P

Asking them to do stuff = OK. Dictating actions as Suny did = not OK. Don't worry I'm just addressing it. Unless I missed it, I don't think you have done it to date.

DM: You have the floor Kai'itza. (and technically a round ahead of the others so feel free to do a round solo, the monsters (not that you know this IC) are not able to initiate combat at this time, at least not until you make a move.

Once Kai'itza declares his actions, if everyone down in the hold can roll their Initiatives, I will roll for the Undead and sea which side goes first. (I'll average the rolls and figure out which side goes first to stream line the fight.)

DM/Everyone:
Roger that~

I did tell a crew men to go tell the Captain that something was happening down in the hold and then asked anyone who was armed to come and help if they wished. So I think I spurred the idea on by accident ^^;;; that was why I rolled that (bad) diplo check of 15 :p to try and make it more legit. So i'll take most of the blame here boss man. =)

But now on to the Action!!!

Kai'itza will lob one of his Javelins at the nearest one.

Attack: Standard Action(w/PBS) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage(w/PBS)1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Feeling the ship lurch beneath his feet Kai stumbles in his throw, after recovering himself, he doesn't waste time trying to see if it had hit, as he scrambles back to put his back up against the door of (area 13) and try and keep them from being able to flank him.

Move: (BAB +1) Draw out his last Javelin while he moves back.

Just in case I missed this earlier: If everyone is actually done there with him I will use my move action instead to draw my weapon.

Liberty's Edge

DM: The mist that swirls around the undead becomes almost solid and a giant clawed hand forms before your eyes and [sound effect]SMACK[/sound effect]...swats aside your javelin. It clatters to the ground with a ping and rolls off to one side the room.

The others howl with a gurgling glee as they are now advancing on those trying to get past them into the room beyond, where they are commanded to guard.

.
.

The battle has begun!
.
.

DM Note 1: For all intents and purposes this battle area is an openish space 15' wide by about 22', we'll call it 15x20 for ease of movement and squares. You can see the map @ Boat for reference if needed.

DM Note 2:The outer edges are "difficult terrain", with a few "obstacles" due to the storage of supplies stacked against the outer walls. Costs 2x movement to go through, and may require a balance check to pass by.

I got my initiatives ready. They are 15, 1, and 8. The undead did not act in round 1. They couldn't actually, but now that they were attacked they can.

Offical Round one start
Kai'itza does go before any of my undead so feel free to go again on init 19.

(changed my mind on initiative, I don't want 3 of these guys to go in a row, might be a bit too tough like that.)

When people chime in they can roll initiative, and I'll try not to break initiative orders too much. Feel free for those catching up to write themselves in to this fight. You may need the help.

Thats okay I think today is going to be a bad day for dice rolling on my part lol...

Kai'itza's eyes seem to glaze over at seeing the clawed hand form from nothing, he grips his Javelin with a white knuckled grip and gives a roar as he advances on the giggling undead.

Move action: forward: Position himself with the stairs on his right and boxes and other items on his left.
Fighting Defensively: Standard Action
AC 19+2 = 21, Attack +4-4= +0
Attack 1d20 ⇒ 9
Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Whether or not it kills me, i'm going to roleplay my character no matter what ;). But i'm sure today i'll either get a good throttling or killed.

Lucky shots like this are why I wisely choose not to go three in a row. I'll allow any PC that hasn't gone to go next before I go again, we can stagger Initiatives this way.

Attack Roll vrs Kai'itza(AC 21): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Whooosh! The noise of teeth grinding fills the cabin as it's attack misses Kai'itza. It hisses in frustration, and claws ineffectively in the parties direction.

Next PC is up, Suny, or possibly Olek/Kyre if they wish to be a part.

Liberty's Edge

DM Note: I'm going to run Undead 3 now, as I suspect I won't be around to continue tonight once I finish posting this.

This will most likely come after Suny does her actions. If it needs to be adjusted i will do so once I check out the thread in the morning.
---

The third undead, the laughing one, advances on Nerine with a sinister glint in it's glowing red eyes. For simplicity, With Nerine being close to Kai'itza, I doubt he can flank either one, but he will make a swipe at Nerine.

The mist surrounding this undead surrounds his outstretched claws, and he reels back to strike Nerine with a savage slam attack.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage Roll: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Edit: it's a miss, all PCs that haven't gone can go, and then once they do we can start the next round and you guys can queue up attacks. I can say OOC, the undead will press the attack and not move much, looks like 2 near Kai, 1 near Nerine at the moment.

With the helm under control, and a scream and moving sailors and crew to deal with, Devannis could only think of one possible solution.

"You! Yes, you! Sailor! Take the helm - I have to deal with something very urgent."

With much haste, he hopes the designated man takes his new role. The captain then hurried himself down the stairs to the lower deck, and then to the hold - where he can hear the sounds of a roaring beast, and much movement - and drew forth his blue-steeled cutlass from its sheathe, twirling it about to a readied stance.

Sorry if my wording came off as an order, but we are on a ship. Suny is technically a sailor, so old habits dying hard and all that. Since She is volunteering to step up and have a go at these things, some one getting her swords would be nice. :P

Tally-HO! And into the fray! (^_^)

As Kai steps towards the trio and is met by them coming forwards. Suny simply gives the big guy room as she moves sideways, fiddling with the knot on her toga's shoulder.

Spending a Hero Point

She simply unfurls the large square of fabric and twirls the large cape over the undead monsters heads

Improvised Weapon Att:1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 8 - 4 = 20(+Hero point?)

As their lights go out, she simply throws herself into their covered forms.

Next round she will begin to pummel away with nekkid hand/knee/unarmed attacks. (^_~)Plus hoping to entangle th' buggers!

"Ye-HA!" She yells with glee, "C'me on mates! Lets teach th' cargo where it's place be!"

NPC Stuff Suny, All:

It's never about your wording, as orders, or not. That was never the issue. I should be clearer on this, as I think there is some confusion.

It's not so much what you, or your character, does or says, it's when you dictate actions of other NPCs that are not under your control that I am having issue with.

Simply asking an npc to do something, whether that's a polite order, a demand, or whatever is not what I'm talking about. I was about to have a young woman strip for an evil overlord after all...

When you post the actions of what my npcs do or say, it is not always, and has yet to be, the proper reaction they would have made or done.

In your case, I'm not sure you noticed, so this is ooc info, Suny is not well liked by the crew. She has done actions (which as a DM I have no issue with, but echo in the heads of the NPCs as someone who, wants drugs, doesn't care about people, flighty, uncaring, a rumor monger, and someone to not be trusted.)

This is an OK way to play your character. I want to restate your free to do and act as you wish, but the npc crew is a living entity, they talk amongst themselves, they have their own ideas and actions.

If you just stick to what your characters say and do, that's all you need to worry about. I wouldn't be doing my job if I made you guys have to control how the world reacts to your actions.

These are the impressions earned though actions, nonchalant attitudes, particular way you reacted to situations, ceratin skill checks used, methods of getting info etc.

Everyone has made impressions with the crew. If you wanted to earn their trust etc you need to interact with them more and roleplay it differently...or go the Avion route and establish dominance through intimidation, fear, displays of power.

:) This is just a tip from me, im not infallible, I make mistakes, but i want you to see it from the DM side of things, and why I frown on PCs controlling NPCs actions.

That's all.

DM: The hum of your blade cuts only the air on your first attempt. But the follow up scores a solid hit, even though the mist like appendages that swirl around them tried to deflect it.

Black blood spills from the cutting wound you inflict upon it.

Undead: "ArRROooOOOo!" it howls in pain.

unless you have a feat, power, or class ability to crit undead, you can't critically hit them.

DM:
Sorry for forgetting, but as a Rogue when a target is flat footed I get a 'Sneak Attack'. BUT since these are Undead and the rules are 3.0 I don't. So nothing is actually wasted. I think? (^_^)

Also, in-case my time zone shifts me from posting 'real time'

Round 2 Actions:
Suny continues to pound and pummel the undead that she has under the cloak.

Att:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Dam:1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

"Ah! Shut it ye scabby mucker!" She curses at the Captain's vociferous target.

Correct, unless you have something to allow it, undead are immune to crits. They would lose any dex bonus, and possibly, due to blindness, miss 50% of the time.

Your attacks Suny have no immediate effect at all, it's like punching a jelly cake, their skin simply is too rubbery and squishy to do any real damage with your fists. You are aware that your fists would most likely not do any damage.

From above you hear a deep rumbling voice call out your name and landing close to your feet are your twin blades. You see the furry arm of Gurt, such a large size that it looks like he may not be able to get down without some serious squeezing and positioning.

you can hold onto your hero point. And re-do your round 2 actions now armed, seeing as I chimed in late. (as you know it would be fairly moot to pummel them with your fists again.)

Kyre was distracted for a time, but the sounds of incipient combat finally made themselves clear to her. Dashing headlong with spear and shield in hand, she bursts into the far end of the battle.

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

At this point, I'm not entirely sure of which opponent I can reach - sorry for coming in so late.

For simplicity you can reach any of them, there are 2 on Kai and 1 on Nerine. I'm assuming the one on Nerine is the one Suny blindsided with a toga and is currently flat footed.

Give me 2 actions worth, as it's fair to say you could of easily entered when Suny started. So give me your round 1 actions, and round 2 actions. I'll finish up my attacks now with the undead and start round 3 in a second.

A Hit on The first undead Kai. Damage was done, and he is bleeding.

Cap. which undead did you target? I'm assuming the same one Kai is aiming (Undead #1), as he looks the most dangerous. Though if I am wrong please correct me so I can update HP totals.

The Lead undead howls in pain this round as two blades open up his insides, the smell of rotten fish fills the cabin.

He winds up the still bleeding limb of Finn and takes another swing at the Lizardfolk that isn't falling down.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Damage Roll: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
*miss*

The other undead(#2) threatening Kai'itza strikes again at his ankles, he opens his mouth and hisses as he tries to clamp down on your leg.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage Roll: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
*miss*

The 3rd undead, confused at not being able to see, tries to flail about and remove the "toga."

Note: I'm allowing a move action to escape, as this is not a maintained grapple or pin attempt.

The third undead removes the obstruction, and seeing is it is not food, tosses it aside and lashes out at Suny in an attempt to cleave her flesh.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage Roll: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 (ignore this, wrong die size.)
HIT!
Damage Roll: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 (correct damage)

The creature pulls back it's claw and licks it savoring the blood drawn from the Island Elf. It smells victory close, and drools heavily as it eyes you with a perverse pleasure.

Liberty's Edge

I've done all my round 2 actions, if you haven't gone through round 2 please do.

Also: If you want to queue up round 3 at this time as well, please do. Mine will pretty much be doing the same thing until they are killed. And I got an hour drive starting now so don't wait on me :)

Female Half-elf Ranger 2/Paladin 1

Kyre silently slips alongside Kai and thrusts hard with her spear at the Lead undead - her logic being that it might make it easier for reinforcements to get past these creatures to whatever they are guarding.

Besides, using the limb of a fallen dead is a desecration that gets Kyre especially angry.

To Hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Regardless of whether she hit her target or not, Kyre's next attack is against the third creature - since Suny appears to be in the most danger at this moment.

To Hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

I'm probably going to be off the boards for the next couple of hours;I almost wouldn't mind you NPCing Kyre for the next couple of rounds if you want to - she's got a battle plan.

Spoiler:
No retreating, keep fighting the undead, but no smiting or using any other abilities - she's saving her big gun for whats behind that door...

Lizardfolk

Kai stares on silently at the enemies show of weakness and thrusts yet again with his Javelin while keeping his shield between him and the enemies make shift club. In draconic: "Yth zklaen nakta hesi fethosi locked, push wer irlym spical, troth wer Exoduss sva shio costss."

Draconic only:

"We must keep our shields locked, push the enemy back, protect the Exoduss at all costss."

Round 3: Slathalin! (Fight!)
Attack #1 Undead
Attack roll: Standard Action 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Noted. Will do if needed.

I think I just need Suny to catch up and either redo round 2(with weapons) or jump to round 3. Both Pantera, and kai'itza scored hit son Undead #1 this round(2). Kyre and Suny either missed, or hit and did no damage. Nerine can do something in the end of this round as well, and then queue up a round 3 action if she can.

Male Half-elf, aquatic Swashbuckler 3

Using what intelligence he has, the captain moves with his nimbleness towards the flank of Kai's current foe - the one he's been scoring hits on. With much haste, he knows he must be more careful.

Take back two damage, Will - I forgot my damage does not apply to undead, due to no 'precision' damage.

Attack:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage:1d6 ⇒ 3

Liberty's Edge

The weakened, but still moving Undead rears up and howls, taking hit after hit he still stands. On wobbely legs he again tries to smash the life from Kai'itza with the remains of Finn's Forearm!

WHOOOSH! The Undead swings at head level of kai hoping to score a vicious hit.

DM: The "biter" undead see's his attacks are ineffective against Kai'itza's strong defense and switches to Suny, who looks quite "vulnerable" and already bleeding.

With a sneer it try's to latch on to the foot of the Island Elf, and take a chomp out of her foot with it's needle like teeth.

Feat: Power Attack[1point]): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
*Miss*

The last undead, having already tasted Suny's sweet life essence, goes in for a second helping.

Feat: Power Attack[1point]: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

-----
Note: All of my undead missed in round 3 i will take Kyre's action for her next, as she may end this fight if she hits. otherwise if i miss please finish round 3 if you haven't gone this round. (or queue up a round 4 action.)

Liberty's Edge

Proxy post for Kyre:

Attacking Undead(1), moving to flank position to gain a +2 bonus attack.

Swinging her weapon Kyre takes the Undead on whom she thinks is the most powerful.

  • Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
  • Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
    *Hit!*

The creatures unholy light is cleaved from his tortured soul. It's body begins to tumble and disperses into a harmless mist before it's body even makes contact with the deck.

    Combat is effectively over.

With the leader dead the other undead lose a significant amount of power and coordination, and are easily dispatched by the experienced crew. Each one in turn being scatter to the four winds as they let loose their final death kneel.

    Good Job team.

Snake in the Grass: Act 2, Part B

DM NARRATION: The clamor of the fight dies down with only Suny and Kai wounded in the battle. The silence that comes from the aftermath is unnerving. It is then that everyone notices that there hasn't been any sounds

The door to the North is shut, and no sound emanates from within, and your not sure you heard anything in there since the fight started. What happened in there?

Is anyone brave enough to find out what lies beyond? Who opens the door?
