The fellow in wizard robes comes back out of the rest rooms, consulting some paper.

Kurth loses his 3 gp. This table's no better than the last!

Cavan surveys the room as he sips his drink.

The one-eyed woman somehow manages to drop a pile of gambling chips (surely they were safely on the table in front of her a moment ago?) and says something very unladylike... LOUDLY.

All eyes turn...

The fellow in wizard robes speaks...

... and a blinding explosion of fireworks erupts out of one of the braziers at the far side of the room, just beyond where the one-eyed woman is sitting.

Will save everybody, please.

Eroril: you are blinded for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 rounds.

Cavan: you are blinded for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 rounds.

Mikail, Kozaric and Kurth: although a bit dazzled and shaken you are all fine, and you see the four thugs rise and draw their swords and begin to spread out through the room.

The one-eyed woman calls out in ringing tones, "All right, folks! Drop to the ground and don’t try anything stupid and we might let you live!"

Most of the customers do so...

You may now roll initiatives... so shall I.

Man in wizard robes: Initiative 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

One-eyed woman: Initiative 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

The Thugs: Initiative 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

A couple of Golden Goblin bouncers who didn't get blinded: Initiative 1d20 ⇒ 9

Please also state action & do appropriate die rolls (include damage, in case you do hit) then I will post the events of the complete round - I've found over the years this is the best way to keep pbp combat moving at a reasonable pace!

Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 17

Blinded, Eroril drops slowly to the ground.

M Human

initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Without giving the situation many thoughts Kurth rise and charge the nearest thug/woman/wizard with his earth breaker

attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

he's not charging in a game mechanical sense.

I agree with the way you run combat. In my experience it also helps speed up combat if you as GM roll initiative for players that are taking too long to respond, and having them delay if they are not posting their action in time. It could be after a day or two or longer if you prefer. In my opinion it is better that the GM roll for one player than having four players waiting for that one to roll

Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Kozaric draws his bow and takes aim at the man in wizard robes.
If I cant get a shot at the mage I will aim at the woman. I am going to use my perfect shot. I am assuming I am within 30 feet, if I am not please subtract 1 from the Hit and damage.

Perfect Strike: You must declare that you are using this feat before you make your attack roll. You can roll your attack roll twice and take the higher result. If one of these rolls is a critical threat, the other roll is used as your confirmation
roll.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

Irongleg moves toward the closest ruffian and attempts to punch him directly in the face.

Unarmed Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Yep - if Cavan hasn't posted by the time I get out of bed tomorrow, I'll roll for him and resolve the first round.

Initiative=1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Having been blinded by the spell, Cavan tries to hide beneath a table near him.

Stealth=1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Liberty's Edge

Kurth is quickest off the mark, and cannons into the nearest thug. The pair of you crash to the floor, the air gushing out of the thug's lungs with a whoosh... which doesn't mask more ominous cracking sounds as several of his bones break at the impact!

Ironleg reacts swiftly as well, unfortunately his swing goes wide...

..the one-eyed woman gestures in your direction, and suddenly everything seems to be even more confused than it was... A will save, if you please, Ironleg

The thug you were fighting attempts to belt you one in return, attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 doing 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 subdual damage.

Kozaric knocks an arrow, takes a steadying breath and looses it at the wizard, who has dropped the paper he was holding and is unrolling a second one. Your arrow hits him squarely before he can do anything, and he staggers back to slump against the wall, blood pouring out of him staining those robes.

Cavan and Eroril both cower down out of the way.

The other two thugs are wrestling with the two bouncers who are still upstanding, looks about level pegging at the moment.

Next round. The order is Kurth, Ironleg and Eroril (still blind at the moment, though), One-eyed Woman, Kozaric, Wizard, the bouncers, the thugs, and last but not least, Cavan (also still blinded for now). Please post actions and relevant die rolls as before, as it is the weekend I will roll & resolve on Monday if you have not all spoken up before then

Will Save 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

I imagine that fails, so I probably won't get an action this round, but if I do.

Ironleg grunts loudly as he is struck by his opponent and then hit by a magick from the woman. He does his best to respond, striking out at the man.

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Still blinded, Eroril remains crouched waiting for the condition to clear.

With the release of his arrow, the reality that surrounds Kozaric has ceased. His mind has released itself of the distractions around him; he does not hear the screams nor see the movement of the people near him, the passage of time ceases. Like a rushing river carrying him along, his body moves with out thought. Kozaric has entered Mushin no shin, he has become one with the bow.

If the wizard looks dead I will target the one eyed woman with my next shots.

Flurry of Blows:
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Still blinded by the magical fireworks display, Cavan remains in his hiding place trying to regain his vision.

Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

M Human

If he can get to her Kurth will attack the woman. If not, then another thug will do.

wild attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
damage 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 +1 if flanking

Liberty's Edge

Kurth: I'll take it that he's grappling the thug still, he'll be delighted to discover that he's getting the upper hand...

Ironleg: Correct, you failed to save and are unable to act this turn.

Eroril: You hold position. A hand grabs yours and a female voice says "I'm scared..."

One-eyed Woman says "It will be the worse for you if you try to resist..." as she moves over towards the back offices...

...however, Kozaric, now in a zen-like trance of bowmanship, looses a couple of arrows at her seemingly without conscious thought. The first hits and she slumps to the floor.

The Wizard is trying feebly to pull the arrow out of himself.

The thug in melee with Ironleg takes advantage of his inaction to hit him again, 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14, but only manages a glancing blow that does no damage.

The other two thugs and the bouncers are still slugging it out.

Cavan is still holding position and rubbing his eyes.

OK, next round action & rolls please. Ironleg, you may act this round.

With arrow drawn, Kozaric advances through the crowd towards the man trying to pull the arrow out of himself. “Surrender and live wizard!”
If he gives up right away I will attempt to tie him up, if not, I will attempt to shoot him in the face. If i happen across a thug in my imediate area i will attack him.

Movement =30
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Eroril gives the hand suddenly clenching his a comforting squeeze. "Don't worry m'lady. From the sounds I'm hearing, it seems not everyone has heeded the advice to not resist. I may not be able to see, but if any of those hooligans come our way, they will taste the edge of my warhammer. Just stay close to me."

Eroril remains in his position straining to discern how the battle is going.

Ironleg shakes loose the foginess from the spell he was hit with, and returns to mostly normal. He again attempts to strike the thug in front of him.

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Cavan continues to hide.

Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

I think this is my last round of being blinded; correct me if I'm wrong

Are they grappling? That wasn't my intention and i can't seem to find where the thug try to grapple Kurth?

In any case i will roll an attack and damage result, and you can just keep the attack if they are grappling

Sorry, Kurth, everyone else was jumping up and down to get on with the fight... we'll go with your haymaker now you've told me that's what you want to do.

Kurth delivers a stunning blow, the thug flies backwards and lands like a starfish, arms and legs splayed and blood fountaining from his nose.

Ironleg also hits his thug, who starts backing away...

Eroril, your vision is beginning to clear and you find that a curvaceous human female is cowering against you, looking up at you with big blue eyes.

Kozaric finds that the wizard is willing to surrender, and you are able to tie him up with what? if you want to do so.

The bouncers are getting the upper hand on their thugs, one's made a run for the door and the other's gone cross-eyed and sat down on the floor rather hard.

Cavan also finds that his vision is beginning to clear.

Sensing that the brawl is winding down, the other patrons - at least those not still rubbing their eyes - are beginning to complain and demand their money back from any staff member they can see.

Finally getting the upper hand, Irongleg tries one more kick against his opponent.

If I hit, I'd like to do nonlethal damage, so that we might have someone to question!

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

“ On your face wizard. “ Kozaric pulls the wizards arms behind his back and ties his wrist together with a spare bow string from his pouch. He then stands with a disgusted frown and begins shaking his head at the wizard. “And on a school night too.”

As Eroril's vision clears he sees the source of the female voice looking up at him. "See, it seems that Saul's security has gained the upper hand. Order will be restored shortly." Eroril carefully begins to rise and helps the woman to her feet. He stands up to his full 49" height, bows, and says, "I am Eroril Bazbek, at your service. Are you ok, m'lady?"

M Human

No worries, it happens in these types of games

If more thugs are left standing Kurth will attack them.

Power attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
damage 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

If not...

Breathing hard Kurth look around him for his next target. Sensing movement behind him he whirls around and grab a would be attacker at his collar and fist his hand, ready to hit him, when he realize that he was just a frightened customer. He lower him to the ground and straightens his jacket, before joining the other complaining customers.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The fight is over, so no more initiative order...

Kurth: Your blood up, you look around for more targets. Apart from one thug on the far side of the room, who's busy legging it out the door, all the misbehaving people seem to be down. A movement behind causes you to whirl, arm cocked to deliver a blow, but fortunately you realise it's a merchant in his best coat and stay your hand... He accepts your apology, indeed even thanks you for having aided in quelling the disturbance before scuttling off to join the line at the cashier's desk.

Eroril: Your vision now clear, you have before you the very vision of human loveliness - not sure how that works to dwarven eyes!

"I am fine, thanks to you, kind sir. I am Zesuni Bowman, my father is a merchant here in Riddleport..."

Kozaric: You have no problem trussing your prisoner, although he's moaning something about only a brute would deny him medical attention.

Ironleg: You deliver a savage kick and the thug goes down. Looks like he is seeing stars and little tweety birds...

Saul comes out of the strongroom and looks round at the chaos. He's immediately beseiged by angry gamblers, but pushes his way to the dais at the centre of the room.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I do apologise for the disturbance. All chips may be cashed in at 110% by means of apology, and the tournament will be held at a later date - your entries will remain valid."

Cavan stands rubbing his eyes. He looks around as his vision clears. Across the room he sees that security has overcome the offending members of the failed heist. Having experienced enough action for his first evening in Riddleport, he heads towards the exit and out onto the street of Riddleport.

Kozaric pulls the bound man to his feet. “Oh yeah, well only a brute would come into this fine establishment, trying to steal from the good honest people of Riddleport, your under arrest mister and just like every other foaming, rabid psycho in this city with a foolproof plan, you've forgotten you're facing the single finest fighting force ever assembled.”

"You might want to round this one up, too," Ironleg says to Kozaric, after listening to him properly rebuke his prisoner. Ironleg was a little bit worse for wear, having taken a good shot, and his bell was still ringing a bit. He still wasn't ready yet, he knew. If he had been in the arena, he might not have made it out.

"You are most welcome Ms. Bowman, or, forgive me if I'm too presumptuous, Zesuni. I am very happy to be of service to such a beautiful damsel in distress." Eroril bows again. "What brought you to the Golden Goblin this exciting evening?"

Eroril has an unusually high charisma score by dwarven standards, so he is not a complete oaf around the fairer sex.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Order is soon restored, although most of Vankaskerkin's staff resign on the spot and the remaining few are hard-pressed to see the customers paid off and out the door.

Cavan: As you head out the door, your 'succubus' friend catches you by the elbow. "Looks like I'm getting off work earlier than I expected. Would you care for a drink before you go?"

The floor manager comes over to where Kozaric and Ironleg are minding their prisoners.

"The local gendarmes are on the way... late to the show as usual... but Mr. Vankaskerkin would like you to join him for a drink by way of gratitude. I'm Larur Feldin, by the way. Good work, both of you. Best see if these two have anything by way of recompense, so to speak."

He bends to search Ironleg's erstwhile opponent, who is still out for the count.

Kurth: You are approached by one of the bouncers, who conveys Saul Vankaskerkin's compliments for your assistance and invites you to join him for a drink.

Eroril: Your new friend seems most chatty. "I came to see the fun, new place opening and all... but I didn't expect quite so much excitement. I hope my father won't be too upset, he was quite reluctant to let me come! Wonder what set all the fuss off... do you think they planned it or just saw an opportunity?"

M Human

"Well, I've never been one to pass on a drink." he says and follow the bouncer.

"It was definitely planned. Large crowd with money, inexperienced staff distracted by the opening night excitement. It's a prime opportunity to make a big score. I guess they over estimated the power of their blinding spell. But enough about them, they will receive their justice in due time. There is nothing better to settle the nerves than a stiff drink. May I buy you one? I want to hear more about you and your father. In what type of goods does he generally trade?"

If Zesuni accepts his offer, he guides her to the bar and buys drinks for both of them. Otherwise he heads to the bar by himself.

If the 'succubus' is successful in convincing Cavan to have a drink at the bar, then Eroril and Zesuni will be at the bar near them. Also, I would like to be positioned near where Vancaskerkin is entertaining Kozaric, Kurth, and Ironleg.

"Thank you Mr. Feldin, just doing my job, Mr. Vankaskerkin hired me to keep people from cheating The Gold Goblin, and well I guess this is the biggest cheater of the night.”
Kozaric pushes the wounded man face first into the wall, pinning him as he begins searching his body. “Mister they are gonna put you where your kind always ends up - in a seven by seven foot grey-green metal cage in the third floor of some three hundred-year-old dungeon, with damp, stinking walls and a wooden plank for a bed. Now I am going to confiscate your valuables as restitution for this fine establishment, and maybe you will learn a valuable lesson from this, you try to break the law around here, we break you.”

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Kozaric: You find a scroll, a wand, a sickle, a pair of bracers, a book, and a belt pouch with 33gp's worth of Golden Goblin gaming chips. You also learn a few things about your ancestry and personal habits that are downright impossible...

Eroril: Your offer of a drink is accepted. Apparently Zesuni's father deals in bows and all the accessories that an archer might need. His staff includes a dwarf smith who makes arrow points - "But he's not as nice as you, he's a bit grumpy and never wants to chat!"

Cavan smiles and regains his composure when approached by the succubus. He smiles and says, "Only if you let me buy."

After collecting the wizards items and handing them to Mr. Feldin, he leads the injured man to one of the bouncers. "Turn this scumbag over to the gendarmes when they get here."
He then turns and walks over to the body of the woman he shot. He slowly reaches down to check for signs of life.

Ironleg searches his thug, making sure that all his possessions were consficated. After doing so, he finds his pack and pulls out his cord of hemp rope. He uses that to tie up the ruffian. "I'll need that back," he reminds the gendarme when they arrive.

"Unfortunately, your father's dwarf smith is more the norm among dwarfs than I. We barely get along between clans, much less with other people. Most dwarfs, such as the dwarfs that work in the gas forge, are content with working with ore and minerals, crafting goods and weapons. I, on the other hand, am more interesting in discovering knowledge and lore wherever it may be. I have found in my travels that knowledge comes easier when I embrace those that enter my life, however briefly, rather than drive them away. But, I prattle on too much about myself. What about you, Zesuni? Have you lived in Riddleport all of your life?"

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Kozaric: The one-eyed woman is dead. Searching her, you find that she has nice leather armour - masterwork, you think - under a loose gown; she also has a rapier, a light crossbow & 10 bolts, and a pouch with 17gp in house chips. (The chips that were on the table have, er, gone... along with the other gamblers seated at it, who have now cashed up and left!)

Ironleg: Your thug wears studded leather armour, and carries a short sword (still sheathed) and a sap. He has 8gp in a belt pouch, whatever chips he was gambling with must have been left on the table when he got up.

Eroril and Cavan: You are both at the bar with your ladies, enjoying conversation and a drink. The sole bartender is looking quite flustered, even though most patrons have cashed up and left.

Kurth: The bouncer leads you over to the bar, and calls for the bartender to serve you.

"Mr Vankaskerkin has ordered that the fire is lit in his offices upstairs, and as soon as we're done down here you and the others who assisted in dealing with the recent unpleasantness will be invited up to take wine - he has a proposition he'd like to put to you. In the meantime, please accept this drink."

Eroril and Cavan both hear this...

Ironleg collects the leather armor, the weapons and the 8 gold pieces. He places them in a conspicuous spot so that he could take them to his boss when the group was to meet with him. "Is everyone okay?' he asks, realizing that since the fight he had been mostly lost in his own thoughts.

Kozaric steps away from the woman’s body, sadly shaking his head. “Well I guess she gambled everything and the house won.” He then turns and walks strait to the bar.
Pointing at Kurth, he addresses the bartender. ” Give me one of what ever he is having.”

"Excuse me for a moment m'lday." Eroril turns away from Zesuni and addresses Ironleg and Kozaric. "I'm afraid I was blinded by that wizard's spell but, from what I gather afterward, you were very instrumental in putting down this treacherous act. Were either of you injured? If so, may I offer some healing as a thank you for your heroic deeds."

If one person needs healing, Eroril will replace his Sanctuary spell with his spell of cure light wounds and touch the injured person. If two people need healing, he will also replace shield of faith. Healing:

1st person1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
2nd person1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
