I'm thinking of playing a multi class paladin / cavalier in our upcoming Kingmaker game (it seems like a great campaign for the mounted holy knight type of character)
Anyway, I'm wondering how, per the letter of the rules, one handles the mount (assuming I take the mount option for the paladin)
It seems as though both class levels should stack when determining Druid level animal companion abilities (as opposed to having to have two different mounts for instance).
Things get a bit more wonky however when you eventually need to figure out things like the paladin's mount gaining the Celestial template etc. For those instances, should you only consider the paladin levels? Same question would apply to the line that says a cavalier's mount does not get to share spells.

Unfortunately only the druid has the ability to stack class companion powers/abilities explicitly outlined in his class features, but there it does specify that effective druid levels stack for the purposes of animal companions.
Since the companion gets all abilities from all classes that grant animal companion advancement, a cavalier/paladin's companion mount still would get the celestial template, but not until the character had 11 paladin levels. Likewise, the animal would have the share spells ability because the paladin class grants that ability.
For example, a paladin 3/cavalier 3 animal companion would calculate HD, saves, etc. as though it were the companion of a 6th level druid, but other related abilities (for example, a paladin's ability to call his mount) are calculated by individual class.

There's a feat in the Pathfinder Seeker of Secrets book called Boon Companion.
Boon Companion
Source Seekers of Secrets 16
Your bond with your animal companion or familiar is unusually close.
Prerequisites: Animal companion or familiar class ability.
Benefit: The abilities of your animal companion or familiar are calculated as though your class were four levels higher, to a maximum bonus equal to your character level. If you have more than one animal companion or familiar, choose one to receive this benefit. If you lose or dismiss an animal companion or familiar, you may apply this feat to the replacement creature.
Special: You may select this feat more than once. The effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a different animal companion or familiar.
As a GM, I would allow a player to take a home-brew variant of this feat that applies to a Paladin/Cavalier mount. Heck, I'd even allow it to be taken twice, once for each mount!

I would allow it, right out of the gate just as long as the PC follows his Paladin and Cavalier codes to a TEE. If they fail in either aspect they are losing the mount for the day. If they permanently fall or change alignment I would put on my best "Dad Face" and tell them they just lost all class abilities tied to Paladin or the Order.

Sorry to Threadomance an old thread but better than a new one?
Since the Paladin Mount specifies to use as Druid animal companion, this should stack with Cavalier mount right?
Except the Cavalier mount specifies to not get some of the abilities it indicates are part of the deal as a Paladin mount...
any clarification?

Yeah, that's kind of a wonky one, considering that you're using your cavalier levels and your paladin levels as effective druid levels for your mount... I'd probably allow them to stack, but I feel like there is a feat or something that specifically addresses this combo. I looked for a while though and can't seem to find anything. My search-fu is weak apparently.....
