Maybe it's just me, but there seems to be two different creation myths for the Goddess Sarenrae. One is stated in AP #20 as her being an angel, then Empyreal lord, and finally gaining her Godhood as she cast Rovagug down into the pit.
The second has her as a Goddess near the beginning of creation when Asmodeus slew his brother Ihys after which there was much chaos and turmoil and when Rovagug tried to destroy all the creations that had come to be, both Sarenrae and Asmodeus cast the Rough Beast in to the Pit of Gormuz.
I'm inclined to use the second myth since it came from a later book and, for me, is much more interesting than the previous myth. Just figured I would ask and see what the official ruling is on this. Just for the sake of my own curiosity.

The "correct" one is the one that you or your GM prefers.
The world canon "correct" one is the first one; she was an angel first, then an Empyreal Lord (aka a demigod), and then a true goddess. That said, in Golarion, a demigod and a goddess are BOTH deities; they're both able to grant spells to clerics. And we sometimes get a little fuzzy on those terms (demigod, god/goddess, and deity).

I'd call them both true, for a given amount of true.
They're creation myths. Not exactly something that has been witnessed by mortals and dutifully written down exactly as seen. Hence the designation "myth".
The latter sounds like what Asmodeus's disciples usually spread. As a follower of the Dawnflower, I naturally distrust it.
The former is the one I have been taught during my training, and fits well into the prevailing myth about the gods - the other gods are minding their own business, when Rovagug appears on the scene to destroy everything. They all fight him, many die, but when the archangel Serenrae's valorous stand against the Rough Beast transforms her into a true goddess, the resulting power boost enables her to start a surprising onslaught, and the gods manage to imprison the thing.
Many gods did their part - yes, including evil ones like Asmodeus and Zon-Kuthon (unless he was still Dou-bral back then).
In the end, believe the one you like most, or which is taught by the deities you feel most positively about. Be aware, though, that your choice might be a reflection of yourself.

So you are willing to accept the "truth" proffered in a book about the plane ruled by the Prince of Law/Lies?
I've got a bridge you might be interested in...
Honestly, though, remember that propaganda is something of Asmodeus' forte.
That's an important point!
One thing to remember about Asmodeus: He's the father of all lies! And the uncle of all tricks!

And he's the ultimate [dark] lawyer. Almost everyone has to deal with him occasionally.
I really like the way he seems to be The Indispensible Evil in Golarion...
Of course, I am a lawyer, so I have some small bias...

Slightly off topic, but relevent to my earlier comment on infernal propaganda, the best example I've seen in D&D was the 2ed supplement, Guide to Hell. After reading that, one of my first posts on these boards was my (crackpot) theory that the "not quite a deity, but just as powerful" Asmodeus of 2ed was the "Sepant" behind Vecna's rise to power, the Athar (no gods) faction in Sigil, and manipulating the head of the Mercykillers to hunt the Lady of Pain.
It was also my first exposure to the hands on treatment of the Paizo staff as either Mr. Jacobs or Mr. Mona (sorry, can't remember which) chimed in on my theory.

There's a different kind? ;-P

Ignoring that eagle symbol next to my name for a second (it's a sham, anyway), I must agree here.
And I think he's not just indispensible, but also the "least of all evils". Unlike the monster fornicators, vandals, assassins and sadists that occupy the lower planes roster of deities, he actually has something to offer society. He represents the kind of evil you can invite to dinner parties and have a pleasant conversation with (just watch what you say!)
Of course, that's part of his agenda. And it seems effective. Leave the Legions of Terror to others, he'll buy his way into domination, without a single shot fired.

Of course. Is that a pentacle you're hiding behind your back? ;-P
