In a recent game my character, the witch Hama, found herself lost and alone in a Sahara like desert.

After spending a night fending off dire hyenas she began to realize how desperate her situation really was. She wondered blindly for a week with no one to talk to but her imp familiar (who didn't exactly give her uplifting conversations).

Eventually, she went a little crazy and came up with one of those crazy ideas that only witches can come up with.

She cast Summon Monster IV, brought forth a Hound Archon, gave it her bag of holding (which she and her familiar promptly climbed into) and before the summon's duration ran out, she ordered it to teleport itself and the bag to her home country's capitol city and to release them from the bag upon arrival.

With a 4th-level spell and a bag of holding, she was able to use a greater teleport effect. Now, being 10th-level, she could have cast teleport on her own had she taken it as a known spell.

Still, anyone could do this as early as 7th-level, a full 2 levels earlier than long range teleportation is even avaailable, and a full 6 levels before greater teleport would normally be available.

I am now convinced of the true power behind summoners.

Is there anything that I might be missing that would keep this new trick from working?

Yes, read the Summon Monster spell carefully next time:

A summoned monster cannot summon or otherwise conjure another creature, nor can it use any teleportation or planar travel abilities.

There you go.

Yes, I don't believe summoned creatures can use dimensional travel spells/SLAs.

...darn. I'm going to have a hard time explaining that one to the GM.

I'm familiar with the rule, but I guess I just got CALLED creatures and SUMMONED creatures mixed up.

EDIT: I just double checked the rule and don't see it under the summoning entry.

Summoning rules:
Summoning: A summoning spell instantly brings a creature or object to a place you designate. When the spell ends or is dispelled, a summoned creature is instantly sent back to where it came from, but a summoned object is not sent back unless the spell description specifically indicates this. A summoned creature also goes away if it is killed or if its hit points drop to 0 or lower, but it is not really dead. It takes 24 hours for the creature to reform, during which time it can't be summoned again.

When the spell that summoned a creature ends and the creature disappears, all the spells it has cast expire. A summoned creature cannot use any innate summoning abilities it may have.

EDIT 2: Never mind. It's in the spell itself. Sorry.

Freakin' ninjaed!

But yeah, you could still have just called the creature and had it work fine. Do you have planar binding?

** spoiler omitted **

It's not under summoning entry in the Magic section. It is in the actual spell description itself, which trumps other magic rules. Sorry.

I suppose the ENTIRE solo game we had last week can be attributed to a bout of delirium since none of the drama Hama caused in the city could possibly have happened...
