It is nearing sunset. the entire town has turned out for the sanctification ceremony, a ritual that has lasted for the better part of a month to produce the most holiest of holy sites on the material plane. Father Zantus, Head priest of the unified cathedral, has led the holy ceremony with great pleasure and zeal.
Today, he is very happy. He knows that the ending, which concludes as the last of the suns rays touches the very tip of the steeple, will be magnificent.
Gazing out into the crowd, he sees friends from town, couples that he has blessed, widows for whom he has helped ease the burden of sudden loneliness. He sees kids running through the large cathedral square, many may be acting up now, but he smiles, knowing that these rapscallions will be sandpoints future.
it is time he whispers to himself, as he gets up and approaches the podium on the large stage, surrounded by the towns founding families, and visiting dignitaries.

the square is a large massive area where public meetings and celebrations take place, like today.
for today, it is lined the length with long picnic tables, around which families are gathered. on one side stands the church, opposite it, stands the heavily laden tables filled with free food and drink. lines of crowds gatehr around their favorite inn or tavern.
wagons, filled with wood and whicker, sit far away, ready to be pushed into the center of the square when it gets dark out and the bonfire to be lit.
ok guys, where are you? what ill do is if you can post me your locations by tomorrow noon (central) i can draw up a map and post it online somewhere for you all to get an idea as to where you are located.
feel free to adlib what your up character has been doing the past 2 days, leading up to the final celebration
Lynxian |
Lynx breathed in the air deeply, as he made his way through the crowd gathering at the town square. The smell of the sea, true, but not as bad as on the ships that had taken him from Katapesh to Magnimar, with numerous stops in between. A stroll down the coast and he had found himself in this quaint town: Sandpoint. Perhaps he had chosen it as his resting stop because its name appealed to him, reminding him of his lands. He had grown tired of life on ships and he felt he was far enough from his former life that he would be safe, at least for now. Lynx's sharp eyes caught the stares of all around him. Of course, he tended to draw attention to himself, parading around town in his traditional desert garb: long white tunic, sleeveless cloak, and kuffiya coiled around his head. As the saying goes, you can take the boy out of the desert... Lynx did not mind the attention. He was appreciating his freedom, never taking it for granted after how hard he had fought for it. Unconsciously, he looked down at the pair of curved short swords hanging from his belt. Always there when I need them! Hopefully, that part of his life was over, but his coin purse was feeling lighter every day. Perhaps someone could use his special skills, gifts of years of training under his former boss. But no need to ruin the afternoon thinking of that. He bought some fruit from a nearby stand west of the stage, as he looked curiously to the man in robes eager for him to start, keeping a watchful eye for pickpockets in the crowd.
Picture of Lynx's curved blades: Swords. Lynx is west of the stage, on the outskirts.
Calathes Neverion |
Calathes has spent the first two days of the festival quietly observing the townsfolk of Sandpoint, taking mental note of anyone who may be of use to him in his quest to have a greater understanding of what the ancient Thassilonians and their Runelords were like.
As the festival draws to a close, Calathes stops by one of the tables of food and drink, takes a bit of cheese, bread, and cured meat along with a tankard full of wine before making his way toward where Father Zantus will be making his final sermon for the celebration.
Calathes says to himself, "It hasn't been much for finding help for my mission, but I have to say it is a bit of a welcome change from the constants masses of Absalom."
He then takes a seat off to the left hand side of the temple to take in the ending of the festival.
Snafu Fubar |
With the festivities going on in the town and likely ale being involved, Snafu felt the tug and urgings of his god to attend...
a tattered sackcloth cloak hangs on the broad shoulders and also reflects the grim visage of a half-orc gripping tight his ale and watching the throng of people with a tension on his face
"Whatem I here fer?"
he quietly asks the head on the beer as if in some way it might answer his question, his prayer
"I ad been meanin tah buy a set o javelins here inna town..."
Snafu wanders aimlessly, stopping by a table of free food, he takes a couple of loaves and a wedge of cheese... Appearing as a beggar...with little to his name
Ugh ugh |
Ughugh is a beefy half-orc with a large head. Beneath the little clothing he wears, you can tell he has been in many confrontations, and hygiene is almost nonexistent to him. His Chain shirt is pressed against bare skin, where hair and body odor push through. The majority of his belongings are bound together in a sack tied to the end of a pole that he carries over his shoulder. Of particular interest to some of the casters nearby, is a "stick" through Ugh's nose. He claims to have taken the stick off of a dead "friend" that used a similar one to make him feel better with it.
Struggling to juggle his equipment, Ugh has been splitting his time between the free food and the nearby taverns ever since he entered the city, oblivious as usual to any points and stares that he receives from the crowd. It has been a nice break from the trail rations he normally eats.
Unless approached by someone, he keeps to himself.
Snafu Fubar |
Continuing in orcish and determining this is likely another half orc rather than a full orc...
"Me Snafu, Stay in woods, come for food!"
to dm
Yep good map
and detect evil upon my new dinner date!!
"What you do?"
"How you carry stuff?"
Show Ugh my adventurers sash...
"I help Ugh Ugh get or backpack"
Ugh ugh |
Excited to have someone to talk to, "Food good, better than these." He dumps his belongings on the table. Obviously he was refering to the only food he has in his sack, stale trail rations.
"I travel. Good to travel here, good food."
After Snafu asks how he carries stuff, Ugh looks at his hands a little confused, then he realizes what he meant and says,"I can has?" He pulls some coin from one of his pouches offering it to Snafu for the sash. I was going to get one of those but I wasn't sure if it was aloud because of its source. If they are maybe Snafu and Ugh can find one in the market before we begin?
Snafu Fubar |
"This Snafu's we find one fer Ugh Ugh, now!"
assuming we do not have to leave the map to buy a backpack or sash for ugh ugh....
DM
In your game detect evil works as RAW?
Also expected evil throughout the crowd.....
Hope a quick trip to a store does not put a damper on plans.....
"Pack bread, cheese, hard meat, apples for trips"
"See I got..."
Shows Ugh, packed stuff taken from the tables
Everyone
like people who take towels from the hotel!
Watch the half-orcs stock up!
Idrian |
Idrian's light brown eyes contrast with his dark skin that marks his shoanti human side. He wears his black hair just long enough to put it into a little ponytail at times. Idrian dresses plain without any ornamentation. However, he keeps his bow in immaculate condition and ready on a moment’s notice.

Father Zantus has approached the podium. he looks confident and calm, yet a sparkle shows he is happier than a kid in a candy store. everyone knows about his passion for this holy place.
the crowd gathers close to the stage, taking seats on the chairs, some even setting their kids on stage to listen to the holy mans words. The cleric is known for his stirring sermons.
father zantus reaches into a pocket, fingering the large bulge. With his other hand he reaches out to calm the crowd. The crowd cheers louder at this, knowing that this is part of the gimmick. He waves energetically, yet the crowds roars! He pulls out his other hand, grasping something that flickers and glints in the dying light. Everyone seems to hold their breath, bracing themselves for what they know will come next…
anyone with spellcasting, make a perception check. For every 20 feet away from the stage, take a -4 penalty (-2 distance, -2 size).make a spellcraft check at teh same time. if the perception is high enough, i will take the spellcraft check and relay intel.
sorry for the delay, everything blew up at work
RIZZENMAGNUS |
ugh, you see food. and ale. lots of it. drink up!!!
idrian moves closer to see whats going on. check the map for new placement
i think what everyone should do is bookmark the map page. itll be easier for me to tell everyone to reference the map versus me having to type the code everytime
Calathes Neverion |
Having never been Sandpoint before or partaken of this festival before, Calathes leans over to the person next to him and asks, "Why in the Nine Hells would he have a fireball trapped in stasis like that?"
RIZZENMAGNUS |
calathes: the person sitting next to you looks at you in shock and bewilderment. fire whaaaa??? your eyes snap back and a feeling of hopelessness washes over you as you see the terrible happen...
lynx: since people are still walking up to take their seats for the final ceremony, you find your path blocked more often than not. it takes some shoving and pushing, and alot of curses directed at you, but you manage to get up to the wagon when you catch the unmistakeable smell of urine, dirt, body oder, and lamp oil.
father zantus, his arm raised, looks every bit the charasmatic priest, stirring his flock to greatness. He trembles for a moment, and then with a snap of his arm, he sends the held object flying. people oooo and ahh as it starts to change color, flickering between angry orange and blazing yellow. For what seems an eternity, the globe flys through the air, flickering and growing brighter. Then, reality snaps back in with Heat and Flame! from a light crashing noise comes a sudden conflagaration of fire and force! The mind tries to catch up as it processes one startling fact: A fireball just exploded in front of the stage!
calathes give me a reflex save.
Calathes Neverion |
Reflex Save:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Assuming I'm still standing...
Calathes quickly looks over the crowd to see if there are any survivors.

Ugh ugh |
Ugh looks behind him quickly still quite unaware of whats going on. He shoves a piece of meat in his mouth follows by at biscuit that can't quite make it all the way in. He leaves in hanging there pressed between his lips and mumbles, "Uh oh." He grabs a javelin and Begins scanning the crowd for Enemies.
Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
RIZZENMAGNUS |
the explosion throws shrapnel and body parts all over the square. a large crater can be seen as the smoke begins to clear. people with horrible burns roll on the ground, trying to put out the burning. a quick scan shows about 30+ people laying on the ground, unmoving.
looking at the stage, most of it is enveloped in flames. ragged chuncks of wood hang by splinters. other parts of the stage are embedded into the front of the church. Most of the people who were on the stage you cannot see any of them.
