To gain the most benefit, a tiefling eldritch knight should be a sorcerer. Tieflings have the Fiendish Sorcery racial trait: "Tiefling sorcerers with the abyssal or infernal bloodline treat their charisma score as 2 points higher for all sorcerer class abilities."

If your GM allows the Variant Tiefling Heritages in PF 25: The Bastards of Erebus (pg. 64), Kyton-Spawn (+2 Con, +2 Cha, -2 Wis) and Rakshasa-Spawn (+2 Dex, +2 Cha, -2 Wis) probably make the best choices; with Kyton-Spawn probably the most appropriate. Personally, I'd recommend starting as a Kyton-Spawn fighter and switch to sorcerer for six levels to qualify for eldritch knight. Take the trait Magical Knack (Sorcerer) to keep your CL almost equal to your character level (HD), even though your spell progression will lag slightly (two fighter levels, no spell progression as eldritch knight 1).

Kyton-Spawn Tiefling Fighter 2/Sorcerer (Infernal bloodline) 6/Eldritch Knight 5
14 Str, 14 Dex, 12 Con (10 +2 race), 13 Int, 8 Wis (10 -2 race), 14 Cha (12 +2 race); 15-point buy, all advancements to Cha
F1- Combat Expertise, Exotic Weapon (Spiked Chain)
F2- Improved Trip
S1- Arcane Armor Training, Eschew Materials
S3- Arcane Strike or Power Attack
S5- Weapon Focus (Spiked Chain)
EK1- Dazzling Display, Shatter Defenses
EK3- Greater Trip
EK5- Lunge, Vital Strike
