I have available hours to use. So, yes, I will be in pay status.
"Liberal" leave means you can take leave if you wish.
If one has available hours of leave to use, it would be paid leave. I have those hours. If one did not have available hours of leave to use, one could use leave without pay, commonly referred to as LWOP. However, one still has the option of going to work and saving one's hours of accrued leave to be used later.
"Liberal" leave is an option offered in advance so that people can take the time to take care of business at home and not have to jump through hoops trying to get in touch with one's supervisor at the same time as everyone else in the morning to notify use of leave.
IF the weather turns bad enough, the option of taking liberal leave may be changed to Administrative Leave by the shipyard commander or sometimes farther up the food chain. In this case, everyone but essential personnel (mainly those in charge of and working in the response crews) will get the day off and will not have to use their accrued hours of leave to get paid for it. Essential personnel will sometimes gain "comp time" where they are allowed to take some paid work days off (paid without using accrued leave) at their convenience as a reward for working during such conditions. This may not sound like much but many people would not mind coming to work on a day they had originally planned to work if it would mean they might get to take another day or two off when their scheduled vacation rolled around.
Make sense?

In a warped and twisted sort of way yes. So in a sense you are hoping for bad weather so you can take a day off when it is nice out.

Correct, if you mean "you" in a general sense and not in direct reference to me. I am not considered an "essential personnel" that would be required to show up to work while everyone else gets administrative leave.
@ Urizen
Funny thing about Columbus...I always saw a lot of wrecks but the accidents disappeared when snow and ice covered the roads. Then, the first day it melted (wet roads) and everyone thought it was safe to drive stupidly again, the accidents returned tenfold.
With that, I'm outta here.

It's okay... Deep breaths. *HUFF* They'll be back *HUFF*
I DON'T KNOW WHERE I LEFT OFF!!
On a side note of b~~~%ing, every year I have to get the catalog PDFs from our vendor and reformat/bookmark/link them for our web page. And every year, they send us the files with the prices included, when I need the version without the prices. Which means I get the files every year, start working on them, then realize the prices are there and the work I've started doing has to be stopped until I get them to send me the right files. Which, of course, means waiting another day or two until they have those copies.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooood morning FAWLTYHOUSE!!!
After an unforeseen absence yesterday(IT problems at work) I'm back. I'd ask if I missed anything, but since there are no black dots aroundabouts, I'm not sure I want to know.
Taking the wife to see Machete tonight! We'll probably go out for beers and get hammered afterwards. It'll be GREAT!
To the Myrtle Beach ppls: Are you guys okay? I will be checking with my dad today to make sure he isn't underwater. We're used to tropical storms and noreasters and such up here, I don't know how well equipped you guys are down there(although you are on the coast, you should be okay). Anyone else in trouble with Hurricane Earl?
Also, SHADOWRUN 1-3E RULES!

Morning, all. What did I miss?
Well, Justin and C.J. started a desperate search for the missing Dottie, unaware that she had been kindapped by sentient, animatronic characters recently escaped from a local theme park. Meanwhile, Mike continued his own desperate search for a store that stocked andouille sausage so that he could make the authentic cajun dinner he had promised his girlfriend. And, across town, Randolph and Mortimer continued to toy with the idea of.....No, wait! That's my soap opera.

Edit: Still, a good excuse for a hurricane party...
Yeah, I think it's pretty much a non-event at this point. Though they're still calling for 3-5 inches of rain and (minor) hurricane-force winds here, so I might get power outtage. Just hope the biotch stays east...

OK, is it just me, or are the boards a little wanky this afternoon? I had trouble posting in the word games (kept freezing up) so I decided to experiment and try and delete my previous post (the one Patrick responded to), and that went really quick. WTF?
Meh. I keep trying to post, then it takes forever and I get the 'Sorry, the boards are unavailable' message. Then I refresh and all's good again.
