Hey Leafette, how are ya!? :D
It's doing better, it kinda flares up every now and then. I need to get it removed when/if we get the money. I hope your paper is going well. :)

*tilts head* Inuyasha?
Yeah, Fu kai Mori was the second ending song of Inuyasha.
I bought Inuyasha manga while there, and the show started in September 2000 (I moved to Japan in July 2000), so I would read the comic and study it, then watch the anime to study and practice Japanese.
The vocabulary in much of Inuyasha is surprisingly simple. There are always words I have to look up, but I can get the gist of things pretty well just using the furigana.
hrm...I do need to finish buying the manga. I think the last one I have is 38 or 40 or something.
I also watched Meitantei Conan a lot. I'd catch bits of One Piece, Yu-gi-Oh (shudder) and Beyblade while waiting for my favorite anime to come on, but those were either annoying, uninteresting, or the vocabulary was too difficult too often for me to follow along well.
I've always loved Fu kai Mori, though. It's a fun song. :)

You can also get a powdered mix, like buillon, for quick dashi. I was never patient enough to try to make it from scratch. :)
Miso soup and Alton Brown. Together. I weep tears of blood.

Another problem with learning my Japanese from anime? I tend to watch guy's anime more than girls', and ended up with a very..er..masculine turn of phrase in Japanese.
Takara-kun, one of the five year olds in my chiko eikaiwa class, just came right out and said, "Otoko mitai!" (You're like a man!)
;_;
Thanks, Takara-kun.

Jayne (the one in sunglasses) was much better at Japanese than I was - she desperately wanted to be a voice actress - and one time she was sitting in a bar, and some salarymen came in and saw her. Thinking a blonde gaijin wouldn't understand, they began talking about her rudely, and said things like that she was fat, etc. She turned around and deepened her voice and yelled out "Nandatouuuuuuuuu?!?!" (very masculine and...hrm...violent? Assertive?) The salarymen literally ran out of the bar.
It was awesome. Ah.
::wipes tear from eye::
reassembles
I wonder what would have happened if she said it in a very super feminine and girlish voice?
implodes due to increasing amounts of jealousy

YOu know what I really miss? Home cooked saba. I think it's cooked with miso. I can't find it in Japanese restaurants here, it's too much like home cooking. Like you'd never find an American restaurant overseas serving green bean casserole. But I would love a fillet of saba cooked in miso, with a bowl of steamed rice.
