If they are going to be limiting options, I hope they at least put full voice acting on your main character. I LOVED that feature on both Mass Effects (especially the female Shepard).

Ok, does blizzard have any tactical use? Delaying characters way out there maybe, but fireball is more practical

Oh, and Lelianna's conversation with the dog is even funnier for me, since I do have a (laid back) chihuahua.

Bon-Bon can fly. See Bon-Bon fly. Fly, Bon-Bon, fly.

This is apparently going to be the case, yes.

Also, though it's pure speculation, it might be worth noting that the new Dragon Age DLC only allows you a three-person party instead of DA:O's traditional four-person one. We might be seeing another shift toward Mass Effect-ism there.

Has anyone played the table top Dragon Age game? Is it any good?

@ James- not I, But Stardust was talking about it on the first page. =D

Ok, so I finally made a male character and I was so disappointed in customization compared to the female characters! They made them more restrictive then female it seems.....*sad panda*

Really? In what ways? I have yet to play a female character.

I frequently stop and listen to the conversations. Especially those between Alister and Morganna. :D
Oh yea Morrigan's talks with anyone is pretty good.
I think Morrigan is the second best conversation character in the game. The elf (name escapes me at the moment) is the BEST to bring anywhere!

I posted it a few up. His name is Zevran and he should be worshipped.

... so do it.

Facial shape. I wanted a beard on my dude and you relinquish control on facial shape if you go that route.

Also over all females get more choices!!
Still really love the game.

This game has single handedly thwarted my Pokemon addiction. It has somehow overshadowed HeartGold (best thing ever) to become my game of the year and I have been playing it even more obsessively.

Eagerly awaiting DA:2. Struggling to get into Awakening, though.

Finished DA, Awakening, and most of the added ones except Return to Ostagar awhile back.

thinking of picking up Leilanna's story DLC, just not sure I have the time now.

BTW, the female elf nature-based mage in awakenings (forgot her name) is fantastic. I leveled her as close to "Druid" as possible in my play through. :)

I haven't actually run a game of it yet, but I did pick it up and read all the way through it. It looks like it has a lot of possibility for being a good rules light system. I'm sort of out of comission on in person games at the moment, but its something I am hoping to get a chance to run.

It sounds pretty good to me and it's up for an ENnie, which is another strong vote in its favor. I'm a little turned off on it that the box set only covers levels 1-5 and there's a small pool of backgrounds to go on. It's available for $20 on amazon, though, so I may just get it either way and see how I like it.

I actually saw them in a dead-tree magazine, but these are pretty similar.

The game's still super early so I'm sure it will be polished up nicely.

I suppose. I looked at some of the concept art from the main web page, it looked pretty rough as well. I hope they expand on the male character customization.

d'oh, I always get them confused.

Eamon: I feel like I had a terrible dream, what happened?

PC: Let me explain, no that takes to long, let me sum up. I have Good news, bad news, and worse news. Your son was tutored by a blood mage, and then was possessed by a desire demon. The bad news is that we had to go into the Fade and kill the demon to free your son, who will now be shipped off to the Tower. The worse news is that your wife allowed the blood mage to use her life to get to the fade to free Connor. It cosnumed her soul and she's gone forever.

Eamon: That's horrible! My wife, my son! What, pray tell, is the good news?

PC: You're alive, viril, and newly single. And I'm available. :-)

Although, I don't like being yelled at by Alistair so I go the mage tower. <.<

Spoiler'ed that, and spoilering this bug I found:

Spoiler:
Instead of deciding to let Isolde use her life force for the ritual, I went to the mage tower to get a professional to handle the transition. After the adventure in the Fade was over, I had a conversation with Bann Teagan in Eamon's bed chamber. Teagan and Isolde were standing there asking me what to do about the blood mage. I made my descision, Teagan went off to take care of it, and Isolde was standing there. That was when I got the Codex for Isolde, telling her whole history and relationship with Eamon. The last line said "She gave her life to save her son, Connor." I exited the Codex, looked at her again, very much alive and standing in front of me. Opened up the Codex again. Sure enough, said she died. Therefore, the bug is that Isolde in the Arl's bed chamber should clearly be labeled "Zombie Isolde."

Dragon Age has got to be one of the best games I have ever played. The setting and the characters just sucked me in. I love how they took classic fantasy staples and turned them on their head. You basically gather an intrepid band of (anti)heroes to slay the dragon, but man oh man, is the journey AWESOME!

The game reminds me of the first time I read through Burnt Offerings when Pathfinder first came out: a breath of life over the old, tired fantasy tropes of old.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8

It does remind me in Pathfinder why I like the Bard/Magus/Arcane Legionary/Stabracadabra types.

Playing the rogue I get to sneak around and stab things but miss channelling my inner Harry Dresden (fuego! he said) and blowing stuff up. Playing the mage I get the blowing up, but it's kind of boring to sit back and go "I magic missile, again, while my spells cycle." I want to get in there with the sword (and hit something)

Toggling doesn't always work, since the computer apparently thinks that once it controls my PC, it's time to wade into melee.

That, and you should totally be able to arcane bolt with the Arcane Warrior specific sword.

That wound be really neat. It's really annoying to put the arcane sword away when you cast something. You'd think they'd make it like a staff. >.>

Is Awakenings worth getting?

So is Awakenings worth getting?

After probably 100 hours of my life spent playing this game (probably closer to 200 now), I can only say that I love the game.

It's sandboxy, but with an overarching plot.
It's deep, but not deep enough to completely lose sight of goals.
It's fun.

I've played pretty much every combination of race/class/origin at least once, though I've only completed the game once. With a human rogue noble.

Then I bought Awakening.

...

Which really should have gone back through the QA cycle a few more times. More bugs than I could shake a lightsaber at! Serious interruption of game enjoyment level glitches. *sigh*

Bioware, I hold you to a very high set of standards.

... I just really wish I could hook up my XBox for online play, as the DLC's look super yum.

Shadow Lodge

you can check out the DA2 trailer here

Oh, yes, and Awakening is totally worth it, especially now that it's had a pretty big patch applied to fix bugs and such.

Finally finished it tonight after having it since the day the game came out. I rarely finish games for some reason, but I'm kicking the habit now.
I wonder how my self-sacrificed Grey Warden will explain his sudden reappearance during Awakening?

Awakenings was great IMHO, and Ive had no bugs at all with it or DA itself regardless of patches.

I just bought Leilanna's Song and the Golem DLCs earlier this week. Looking forward to going back into the game for abit.

Sovereign Court

I hear sadly that the second game will be a different beast, more arcade than RPG. At least in the classic sense. And just 1st person view...

Liberty's Edge

I didn't care for Awakenings all that much. It was fun to continue the game, but part of what I enjoyed so much about the basic game was the NPC interactions and those are really stunted in Awakenings. Even most of the DLC has better interactions.

Finished both newer DLCs this week. Lelianna's Song was fantastic.

Golems of Amggarak was a tad short (even for a DLC) and the last boss fight is harder than any boss fight in the game or expansion. At least in Golems I was able toplay my Warden character again, taking him from lvl 32-35. :) You can import your Warden from either the game (I was lvl 22 at the end of the original game) or the awakenings expansion (I was 32).

All in all fun stuff.

DLCs I didnt play....
1) Return to Ostagar - from the description it sounded like Id be running through a battlefield fighting hordes of enemies. I passed.

2) Darkspawn Chronicles - its the end part of the original game but playing as the Darkspawn. Didnt interest me.

Sunderstone wrote:

Actually, it's sort of the opposite, though it is fairly brief. You go back, it's quiet for the most part, and you have to find the body of the king and his possessions. It was actually fairly atmospheric and ties nicely by reminding you of the battle and the danger. I liked it.

Isn't that what the good guys are suppose to do?

Actually, I liked RTO, nice resolution to Logain's betrayal. True it wasn't as good as the Stone Prisoner or Warden's Peak DLC IMHO but since I doubt Bioware will have a DLC called "My babies Mama" resloving the god baby issue with Morrigan I'll take what I can get.

I'd like DLC that deals with Avernus/Sophia depending on your actions.

Eww, evil metagame thought.

Spoiler:
If you didn't kille Morgain's mom, could she jump into her grandkid? Merging with the soul of an old god... *shudder* Even worse if this was her plan...

This just in...... Sept 7th DLC called "Witch Hunt"

Quote:

"Never follow me." With these words, Morrigan vanished into the shadows. Her plans and her whereabouts have remained a mystery... until now. But whether you seek answers, revenge, or reconciliation with your lost love, you may find more than you bargained for.

Key Features:
•Confront Morrigan in this dramatic conclusion to the Origins storyline
•Earn powerful rewards that transfer into your Awakening and Origins campaign
•Import your character from Origins or Awakening or create a new, high-level hero!

This will be good.

Wow, looks like I spoke to soon. Like my DLC name better "My babies Mama".

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8

Finally finished the adventure with a wizard on the normal settings.

Two important things to remember.

Spoiler:
Your allies may be immune to friendly fire, your armies not so much. I did a number on my dwarves this way.

Don't panic when fighting the archdemon. I had a brief 'Oh $#!%' moment when Storm of the Century was only doing 20 points a pop.

Amusing things

Spoiler:
The battle against Ser whatsher face in the castle is supposed to be tough. I say supposed to be. Warden wizard + Morrigan + Wynn + Lilianna and bear to serve as blockers... not so much.

In the 'defend the Alienage' scenario the badguys haven't busted through a gate prior to the Warden's arrival. This made it obscenely easy. They were all clustered behind the gate. One Mana Clash + Storm of the Century later...

Question, can you have multiple rangers each summon a pet? I'm about to try it with a rogue, and am wondering if a Warden/Zervan/Liliana/Wynn party could have three summoned monsters with them. Killing the AD is going to be tough w.o mages.

No, only one pet or summoned undead at at time. If you attempt to summon a second pet the first one will die.

Note: there is one exception. In the DLC Golemns of Agmarrk if your playing a ranger/wizard you can summon a pet/undead and then allow your companion the dwarf dualist (can't recall the name)summon his special pet the Bronco allowing you to have a group of 6!

Yea, gone threw game 3 times (mage, rogue, warrior) and always had Wynne as companion for healing.

The AD isn't so bad, just conserve you armored soilders (Eamon Knights, Dwarfs and/or Werewolves/Templars)and bring them in once the Darkspawn swarm the tower heights (AD is at 50%) to keep them off your party. IMHO the Mages and Elves were worthless.

For AD use Corruption helm on tank and stock up on Spirit Balm (AD breath weapon is Spirit damage not Fire). Archer should use Filth Arrows (+3 Nature Damage (AD is vulnerable to Nature attacks).

Playing the rogue has taught me that, just like in real life, it is more challenging when you can't just fireball things that get in your way.

(OTOH, I've almost figured out how to 'train' Morrigan to throw SotC, without having to do it manually)

LOL, pretty!!! That's half the fun with DA, setting up parties tactics, course their were a couple of times with my warrior that I ended up on the wrong side of a fireball. MORRIGAN!!!!
