Pre-PFRPG Volumes Soon to be Obsolete?

Liberty's Edge

I noticed that Paizo will be releasing an updated version of the Pathfinder Chronicles campaign setting completely compatible with the PFRPG. I’m wondering if Paizo will be doing the same for the other Golarion books released prior to the advent of the PFRPG. I want to buy all the Golarion materials, I just don’t want to buy them twice.

No, but there is no real need to - they are rules light.

They are reworking the setting for a few reason. It is out nearly out of print and it needed reworked for pathfinder, as the setting has became more defined and the vision for it has filled out a bit more sense the first book they though it was time to revise it as it was more or less out of stock anyhow.

It's not the same as the other books as this is the core setting book.

As others have said, they have said they don't plan to. the campaign book is a special case. It is a evergreen book for one.(means it will always be in print) and it was ready for a reprint, so they decided if they was going to reprint it why not update it too. Now with that said that doesn't mean there is no chance it might not happen to other books but it should be rare, if it even happens again.

Don't expect a lot of things to be reprinted. As far as Golarian matierials are concerned the campaign setting is the exception not the rule. I think the only other reprint is to be the Armory which sold out exceptionally fast.

The main reason we're doing a revision of this book is because we're basically sold out of the first printing of the book. It's the core book for our campaign setting, and as such it's just leaving money on the table to not have the book in print. It's also crippling to the Golarion setting to not have it available to purchase for anyone new to the campaign world—and with the incredible reception the Pathfinder RPG has received, there's a LOT of new folks coming to Golarion.

So we HAD to reprint the book. And since we're reprinting it anyway, we decided to revise the book to work natively with the PFRPG rules. And since we were doing THAT, we decided, why not add 64 pages of additional content?

The goal with the revised campaign setting hardcover, though, is not to "obsolete" the older hardcover or the 64 page Gazetteer... merely to expand. If you have the earlier books, you'll still be able to make sense of our Pathfinder Campaign Setting products for sure.

In other words, I want people buying the revised setting because they WANT to, not because they HAVE to.

My question about the revised Campaign Setting...will it be available through the Pathfinder Chronicles subscription? Mainly I'm interested in the free PDF. I was just about to buy the original Campaign Setting and just happened across this book.

The fact that the Hardcover itself is $50 and the PDF is $30+ was giving me some pause. But now I'll wait for it to come out in revised format, and I'm hoping to get the pdf at a more reasonable price.

Out of curiosity - is there any chance that those of us who've already purchased the original campaign setting pdf file will be given a price break on the "new and improved" campaign setting? Maybe? Please? Pretty please....

Edit: Yeah, I might be wrong on the price. I looked through that thread, and didn't see it. It might have been in regards to one of the other hardbacks coming out, or buried somewhere else. Sorry.

Shadow Lodge

#1 no discount for previous Campaign setting owners :(

#2 I'm not sure about the $10 pricepoint on the PDF but they have said the PDF will be 'very' affordable. :)

I think it was said in one thread by Paizo folks that the new CS will be at 10 USD.

I'm relatively sure that the PDF for the new hardcover is going to be $10.00, but I might be wrong. In any event, it WILL be part of the Pathfinder Campaign Setting subscription line.

+1. My FLGS will definitely be pulling it for me.
