Hi all, my group has been playing through Kingmaker and I've been writing small interludes for the group to read, giving them insight into their prisoner, Kressle, and their adversary the Stag Lord. I thought I might share this entry and crosspost it in the Kingmaker forum. Full credit of course to the brilliant Tim Hitchcock for giving these characters so much depth and to Alexander Kilcoyne for his excellent additions to the Fort in a 6-player group.
Fair Warning: the journal contains some brief adult language, themes, and all that you might expect from a bandit fort. There are no real spoilers if players wish to read it.

+1 Great stuff!

I love this story, and your Kressle one, too. Fan fiction based on APs fills my nerdy heart with glee. It was especially cool, because you wrote the characters in a very natural way, and I realized that it was very close to how I imagined them. One of my Kingmaker players created this serious do-gooder character who wants to be a Hero of Legend like she's read about in stories, and I am greatly curious about which of the bandits she will choose to redeem and which she will deem beyond hope. If you want to delve into greater detail about your interpretations of the bandits or other characters, I'm all ears. If not, at least do us all the kindness of sharing a link to your next lovely story. I can't wait. (Well, I mean, I CAN wait, I'm physically capable of it, I just mean I don't *want* to...)

Wow, this kind of feedback thrills me. I have been very tempted to work the Stag Lord and Kressle pieces into a journal of sorts from her POV because she's had a very interesting journey in my home game from sharp-tongued villainess to antihero and now she's approaching something akin to her last chance at redemption, but it's hard letting go of everything she knew.
The character I most want to delve into, aside from Kressle, is the Stag Lord himself. I see him as a tragic, terribly flawed man with a touch of greatness. Far from being a simple bandit king, he is the essence of the Stolen Lands--wild, untamed, with a nature as feral as it is human. The mixture of animal morality and human honor makes him something greater than an obstacle to be defeated. He is at once the ultimate prize for a character who believes no soul is beyond redemption and the fate that awaits any would-be king who chooses to fight savagery with savagery.

A few more have been posted, although some explanation may be needed to really enjoy them:
Burnt Bridges
(for details on how and why the PCs reached an accord with the Stag Lord, see my recent reply to the latest Stolen Land review posted in the Kingmaker forum... but it's not necessary to enjoy this meeting between the Stag Lord and the vengeful corpse of Davik Nettles)
The New Town Crier
(I also wrote a little something to introduce Grigori to the PCs, which may serve as inspiration for other GMs. To understand some of the elements in this entry, the PCs have founded a barony called Rastria and received unexpected advice on resolving the recent werewolf attacks from a natural lycanthrope I shamelessly modeled on a certain iconic mutant who moved to their newly founded town to look for work as a lumberjack and live a peaceful existence. The common folk do not know Howlett's true nature, but at least one citizen saw him shift and was sworn to secrecy.)
