Rondu -The Round Mound of Pound |
Rondu will take a diagonal 5' step in front of Fendrel, dodge (AC now 18) and perform a flurry of blows on the priate next to him.
Rondu bravely steps in front of Fenrel and delivers a powerful front kick and back fist combination to the pirate on the stern of the ship.
Flurry of Blows:
- Front kick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
- Back fist: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Fendrel Eronitin |
Fendrel grimaced at the pain. He struck again, trying to keep himself covered from the combatants toward the rear of the ship.
Attack Defensively (-4 atk, +2 AC): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
If I drop the pirate, I'll take a move action towards the two in the rear of the ship.

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Fendrel is at -5 HP.
Rondu moves protectively in front of Fendrel and kicks and punches at the pirate, but misses altogether.
Augusto shimmies up the rope and onto the ship.
The pirate in front of Fendrel swings at Rondu ...
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 - HIT
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Hagruk fires at Rondu's attacker, catching him in the eye. The pirate collapses like a puppet with its strings cut.

Augusto kneels by Fendrel, attempting to stop the bleeding
"Hang in there Fen! Don't die on me now!"

It's one or the other, unfortunately. I'm on my way, with plenty of healing
Time to make it up to the top.
Are the ropes hanging nearby, or do I have to move across to start climbing?
I'd rather not jump from boat to boat, so if I have to, I'll use the rear of the ship to drag my boat over to the bottom of the rope.
If I don't need to do that, and/or if I have time left, start climbing.
Climb 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 1 - 2 = 14

The dagger-wielder laughs at Fendrel's fall. He then targets Rondu ...

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 - HIT
Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Rondu is at 0 HP.
Augusto stops Fendrel from bleeding to death.
Hagruk hauls himself up to the deck. The sight of his injured comrades makes his orc-tinged blood boil!
Augusto Mancha |
With a roar that sounds more beast than man, Augusto Charges the Pirates, unslings his Blade and attacks!
"Prepare yourselves, heathens! Erastil calls for your blood!"

Frustrated by Rondu's move behind the steering wheel, the dagger-wielder snarls, shoves the other pirate aside and takes his place. He flings his magic dagger at Augusto.
Attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 - HIT
Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 - HIT
Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
It takes Rondu incredible perseverance just to drink his potion. The worst of his wounds disappear.
Activating a magic item, including a potion, is a standard action. This round you won't be able to do a move action as well.
Augusto charges forth and swings at the pirate on the deck floor, but misses.
The pirate swings back at Augusto ...
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 - MISS
Hagruk taps Fendrel with his wand of healing. Some of the elf's wounds close, but he remains unconscious.
DM JZ |
Rondu -The Round Mound of Pound |
It looks like I can take a 5' step and be within striking distance of the dagger-thrower. If that is not the case, I will take a full move and perform a single unarmed attack.
Rondu steps up to the dagger-wielding pirate and attempts a double snap kick.
Flurry of Blows:
- Kick 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 111d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
and
- Kick 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 171d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
or
Single kick: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 121d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Rondu has combat reflexes, so he can make several AoOs if the dagger-thrower tries to make a ranged attack within his threatened area.
- AoO 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 111d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
- AoO 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 191d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Hagruk Spindleshanks |
"Something tells me we have our man."
Is the dagger thrower on an elevated platform, or is he peeping out of a door in a cabin?
"Another dose for you."
Cure Light wand on Fendrel 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7.
If that gets him conscious, then I'll tuck the wand in my belt, and go round the right side of the ship, to end up in the square to the right of the fat sailor, drawing my falchion as I go.
Fendrel Eronitin |
And here I was all worried that I wasn't on yesterday. At least I wasn't holding anyone up...
Fendrel gasps as he comes to, his world tinged with pain and disorientation. He stands up shakily, his head spinning, immediately begins to defend himself from attacks that he assumes are coming.
Going to stand up for my move action and do a full defense. I am taking no more chances.
DM JZ |
The dagger-wielder continues attacking Augusto ...
Attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 - HIT
Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 - MISS
Rondu steps forwards and kicks at the fat pirate; the second kick hits.
Activating a magic item, including a potion, is a standard action. This round you won't be able to do a move action as well.
Augusto blade flashes brightly in the sunlight. The fat pirate parries Augusto's blows.
The pirate swings back at Rondu ...
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 - HIT
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
The monk collapses onto the blood-spattered deck.
Finally reviving Fendrel, Hagruk enters the fray.
Hagruk Spindleshanks |
Thank goodness for that!
I'm going last; assuming Fatty is still up, I'll take a swing at him. Otherwise, I'll try to get up to the boss, and attack him. I'm happy to take an AoO if need be.
Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

As a side note, dodge changed from 3.5 to Pf, you don't have to declare that you are dodging anymore, its always on, unless you are rendered flat footed.
If there is a room, I want to 5 foot step forward, to flank the Fat pirate with Hagruk, then full round attack.

Fendrel Eronitin |
Fendrel, seeing another ally fall to the knife-throwers attacks, moves forward angrily. "Oh, pirate, you'll pay for that," he growls as he swings.
Move to best flank the knife-throwing pirate based on where the allies move.
Another defensive attack, -4 to hit, +2 to AC, bringing me to 18 AC.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Hagruk Spindleshanks |
I don't believe you can get a flank on Fatty.
As for me, it would be a shame to waste a 20...
But, seriously, I'm going last in the round, so I can't predict what the situation will be, by the time it gets to me.
I have a sneaking suspicion Fatty may be going down, but so could another of us.
I can't heal fast enough to match the damage he can deal, so I think I need to keep him busy.
If he's focussed on throwing, I don't think he'll be as dangerous in melee.
I'm unscratched, so I'm happy to take the AoO that could drop anyone else, then the rest can make their way up at their leisure.
So, assuming Fatty gets decapitated...and at least three of us are still up...
Climb up to the foc'sle, take his free hack, then start laying into 'Mr D'Arcy'.
"Rondu's fine! I can stabilise him from up here! Just surround this joker!"
DM JZ |
The pirate on top of the forecastle steps back and draws his sword.
Rondu loses 1 HP.
The portly pirate seems mesmerized by Augusto's whirling two-headed blade.
His look of surprise is frozen in place when his head drops onto the deck, decapitated.
Fendrel launches himself across the deck and up the platform. He swings at the final pirate, but misses.
Hagruk leaps onto the forecastle and stabs with his falchion, connecting solidly with the pirate, who would have been run through were it not for his chain shirt.
DM JZ |
Fendrel Eronitin |
"Oh, but this is a very nice sword, sir," Fendrel says in a voice dripping with false sincerity and very real malice. He circles the aristocrat slowly, his savage glare and predatory stride making him resemble nothing so much as a shark. He swings with both hands, hoping to cleave the pirate down the middle.
5-foot step to the north, full attack maneuver.
