The Dwarf eyes you suspiciously

"Looking for a better life huh? You know most people couldn't find a better life with a thousand years to try."
You think the dwarf could be smiling at you but it looks more like a twisted snarl "On the other hand your naiveness may prove entertaining and I could do with some food... Call me Garron"

Well, Garron, if ya know someone yearnin' to work sun-up ta sundown down in the mines, for a couple pieces o' silver, they're welcome to it. Five years was enuffer me.

Come on then, Ol' fella, I'd be glad to buy ya a meal at the Gar.

Black Tom- "adventurers armory products" as listed on PF srd...
I wanted to purchase.....Wandermeal...Source Adventurer's Armory 8
This tough, dried cake is a halfling invention made from flour, water, and spices. Wandermeal keeps for months without spoiling, travels well, and fills the belly. However, eating it for over a week without other nutrients requires the eater to make a daily Fortitude saving throw (DC 15 + 1 for each additional day) or be sickened. The effect ends 1 day after more nutritious food is eaten.
(costs 1 cp per serving)

I also think a meal to settle me first mead will surely help with whats achurnin in my stomach....

Did not get sick at sea with them pirates and dont intend to start now....

Erine whispers to Goat, though none-too-quietly. "These people are insane, why am I traveling with them, do you suppose they--yes, yes, I suppose, but--very well, but all the same we'd best--right. Oh dear, they threatened you, I think they did, or was it a joke? Yes, it probably was, but that dwarf is very big and he looks frightful. Maybe they plan on dining on the both of us? I heard that the miners of this place eat anything they can get. Do you suppose they're miners? I think that man said he was a miner, and dwarves are supposed to be miners, too. I don't know, but--yes, just be careful." Erine starts to turn back to her companions, then freezes. "Oh dear, he's a pirate, he's a pirate, I thought he was a druid? Maybe he's a druid-pirate. That would make sense, druids manipulate the sea sometimes and pirates have to do the same. Pirates definitely eat people, though. Or was that a joke? That goblin didn't seem quite right in the head, and he did later try to eat me...careful, yes, careful. Precioussssss...."
Okay, that last bit didn't really happen. :P

Erine doesn't seem to fully understand what Sanstree said beneath his accent, but she clearly gets the gist of it. She nods nervously, and turns back and starts muttering to Goat.

She glances at Garron as he speaks. "He's a monk?" she says nervously to Goat. "He didn't tell me that. Well, I'm sure he'll understand that I'm only with this group for protection. If he doesn't, he's not much of a monk, is he? Or am I forgetting how monks are supposed to work?"

OK, game on.

I can't figure what's keeping Canwy but he's have to catch up.

Female Kobold

Not sure this is the best timing, since Freddy isn't quite done and Canwy isn't even here yet. However, since I doubt much character info is needed yet, it shouldn't much matter.

Not sure how much sense Canvy's background is going to make for a 1st level character.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Cleric/2 Fighter/1 HP: 36/55 AC10/T10/FF10 Conditions:

I have always assumed Canvy maybe made it to 3rd level fighter before, but the encounter with the undead Lich and its minions would strip Canvy of all his levels. So he has to start again, this adds to his fight with the madness which grips him, for he knows in times past he had far greater powers, but hasn't come to terms with where they all went.

I will make him city militia from a city near here, if you have the name of one that would be good, otherwise I'll make one up. He then arrived he on his travels and took employ as a personal bodyguard, but his drinking led him to be dismissed very recently, so he is taking up with this group of would be adventurers.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Cleric/2 Fighter/1 HP: 36/55 AC10/T10/FF10 Conditions:

Canvy Mandrain is an older looking man, with shock white/gray hair and a drained whitened and unkempt face and untidy wild red beard. His eyes are open widely, abnormally large and staring, along with his other unnoticeable features. He looks much older than his 26 years, but his strength and muscular frame seem at odds with his appearance. His arms are scarred from previous encounters he looks like a man who in the past knew how to look after himself. Now you meet him, his face and attention are drawn to the cup of spirits on the table in front of him. He looks up at you, like a dog looking for a new owner, then sinks into his drink once more.

Canvy Mardrain was a member of the city militia at (large city in the vicinity some 40-50 miles away). He is an honorable man with a distinguished military career, making the rank of Sargent. He has always shown remarkable common sense for a fighter, though not greatly intelligent. He has several commendations and medals for bravery, taking the lead into affrays, although many thought him reckless in fights, he continued to be admired and respected both within and outside the force. The town might even have bestowed minor awards for his defense of the town.

It all went wrong after he led one company of the militia in a mission against the crypts of Abbey Thainfell, to clear the ground of the gathering undead. The mission itself was a success, however since then Canvy has never been the same. In his recklessness he led the attack on the Lich priest of Lamushtu, but it went badly wrong for Canvy and the touch of the lich and the other undead in the fight left Canvy close to death. Those who saw the fight saw the ghastly green breath of death leave the Lich and encase Canvy before he fell. It was only with the constant effort from the priests of Sanarae that weeks latter he was brought back to life, or as normal a life as he will have from now on.

It was several months later that he was demobbed from the military and came here on his travels about 9 months ago. He arrived and got employment with the local sheriff, but after a few run ins, mainly regarding his drinking habits, he overheard a group of young adventurers talking and introduced himself above his drunken haze. He offers to join and help them, as he is sure the tales of his past exploits will impress them and they will let him accompany them on a worthwhile adventure.

Canvy looks across at the altercation, disinterested. Using his impressive frame he moves through the crowd round the bar, making himself available for the barman to pour him a drink. He pulls a small bag from his pocket and drops a couple of copper pieces on the bar, taking a foaming mug of dark ale in exchange. He moves away from the bar and watches as his new found friends seem to want to get involved with this fracas.

Inwardly he is quite gleeful something might kick off, so surveys the room for the most experienced opponent that might challenge his skills in a fight.

we're not in a bar btw

we're out on the street

Negative levels don't work that way anymore, so the lich part still doesn't make sense to me. I suggest a gnoll witch dedicated to Lamashtu cursed Canvy with her dying breath.

As for the city you can choose between Ottergild (a small village close to Wolfstone) or Forcastle Watch (more of a garrison watching the gnoll settlement of Forcastle. Not too far from Wolfstone either. In either case it would make sense for you to be part of a strike force against the Lamashtu-worshipping gnolls.

Just so you know, I don't think I can cast Cure spells, because they are powered by positive energy, which is rather disappointing. Anyway, I will be guided by Black Tom on the way he plays it, as its his world.

Oh, you can cast Cure spells alright, just like a good cleric can prepare and cast Inflict spells. You just can't cast them spontaneously.

This is my newly created rogue:

Tiana is a low-life who has wandered the area for a few years, working on various illegal jobs trying to earn an honest living for a thief. She has worked under several bosses, all of which used her and took much of her earnings. The long training period was worth it however, and she decided to work as an independant thief. It didn't work well, and she had to run away for the thieves' guild in the last town she's been at. Ever since, she's moving, looking for some adventure group where she can use her talents. Maybe she just managed to find it.

I am not a great fan of the 15 minute adventuring day, but I think that it is nigh unavoidable in the context of a PBP. I think it is time for you to retreat and get Broccan some healing, preparing new spells before you go into the citadel.

This adventure is a bit difficult for 1st level characters, but I was counting on six Pathfinder characters. With Garron MIA and your general dysfunctionality I think you need to be a bit careful.

That said, I'm having a lot of fun and don't want to change anything, except recruiting a replacement character for Garron. If he shows up again, there will simply be seven of you.

Hope that's OK with you. You could press on of course, but I doubt you would be able to handle more than an encounter or two before retreating and that might be more difficult as you get inside.

I'm fine with this, I was worried in case it turned into do an encounter, rest up, do an encounter rest up type of game, which gets a DM frustrated because there doesn't seem to be any flow to the game. But as you are suggesting it....umm..I'm all for it!

I see mention of a potential opening. I'm game, if I'm welcome. Any preference for that next face at the table, other than non-paladin? Cleric seems like a reasonable choice, but who would get along (or not actively not get along) with Canvy?

Huh. Don't know how these things happen, but while I was away, the character became a CN Dwarven Cleric of Gorum. Go figure. Edrukk Thorvirgun is well on his way to readiness, but background and inventory are yet to be done.

Starting gold: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3, 6) = 16 x 10 gp

I'm debating the possibility that Edrukk served at the same garrison as Canvy, but their times of service didn't overlap much. Being in different units, he really only knows Canvy by reputation, though he might recognize the man's face if he were to see him again.

Edrukk has just completed his contract with the garrison and, having no place better to go, has come to Wolfstone because of rumors of adventure and gold. In truth, he just does not wish to return to the stifling regimen of home -- there's a reason he's no longer found in the clan's tunnels, but he has yet to admit it to his family. It's simple, really; he just prefers more freedom in the day-to-day activities. Spending the next fifty years crafting arms and armor with his father and brothers interests him not at all. He never even really learned the art of the anvil, despite his father's best efforts.

How's that for a tentative backround?

Looks good to me. Your dex drops when you're enlarged, so your AC would be 14. Also you should prepare a domain spell. Other than that we're good to go. You can meet up with the others back at the mine (or wherever they decide to spend the night).
