I like Eldritch Secrets. Short, snappy, not too pompous, does what it says on the tin.

It needs a subtitle, of course, and I think Set's would be perfect. :-)

Eldritch Secrets
A Young Lady's Primer to Burning People's Faces Off

personal favorites :

Tome of Thaumaturgy (Owen K. C. Stephens)
Words of Power (Mathias Pitheld)
Magipedia (Remco Sommeling)

for some reason I like this name as well,

Collected Spells of High Sorcery (tdewitt274)

just think it is focused on arcane spells too much.

Here's some more for your consideration

Encyclopedia Thaumaturgia
Librus Enchantrus
Tome of Marvelous (or Mysterious/Mystic/Mythical) Magic
Codex of Ensorcelled Might
The Phylacteric Vault
The Apotropaic Eye
The Incanters Ominbus
Magnum Magica
Fatidic Folio (Vol. I)

I would say this

Grimoire of Lost Spells

Then you can do volumes of the book. Also it allows you to make a series. Not just of Lost Spells but say you later want to do one for Necromancy, then you can name it Grimoire of Necromancy or something. Sorta like what Mongoose did with their arcane books.

Late to the party, but here's a few:

Ensorcelled Liturgy
The Red Grimoire
Elven Wealth: a Collection of Spells
Pieces of Nine: Spells from Every School
Theurgy Expanded: Spells for All Occasions
Ocular Draconium: Lost Spells of the Ages

EDIT: What does the Red Grimoire have to do with anything? I had a character that carried around a spellbook by this name, and the other players would speculate where it came from due to it's vagueness. Just sounds cool to me, like a band's name. If you pick it though, the prize can go to Dark_Mistress because without her entry I wouldn't have recalled this. :D

The Grand Grimoire?

Confess! You lifted that from a God Dethroned CD. ;)

Sorry guys, for the long silence! I've been away on camp with my 4th grade for a week, and is basically just waiting for summer to arrive, which is when I'll give this project some serious thought (and work).

However... I've narrowed down the selection a bit. If you like any of these, please let me know!

Eldritch Secrets (with some cool subtitle)
Grimoire of Lost Magicks
Grimoire of Lost Spells
Tome of Thaumaturgy

- Axel

Hmm, I thought I came up with some good titles.

I like Tome of Thaumaturgy best.

Yeah, there were a ton of good ideas to choose from, but when it comes right down to it, I can only choose one title for the book...

The Exchange

Go with Eldritch Secrets. The subtitles give you the freedom to expand the series.

Nobody knows what Thaumaturgy is, and if the spells are 'Lost' what are they doing in a book?

Here, here.

Eldritch Secrets, to be sure.

My vote is indeed cast for: Eldritch Secrets: (Something Cool Here)

(I still really love Eldritch Codex, though. ;) )

Scarab Sages

Obviously I still like Tome of Thaumaturgy, but I'm a big fan of alliteration.

Bump.

Tome of Thaumaturgy easily the best of these

Eldritch Secrets is my vote.

Same here. The name of the manual alludes to the secrets of the magical arts, which in turn will draw players who enjoy playing casters and those who in turn want to find a way to become better casters. Win-Win situation for everyone.

I will announce the final title tomorrow, in approximately 24 hours, so if you wish your voice to be heard, now is your chance! Your last chance!

A really awesome title will still change my mind in its favor, but so far the two that I'm thinking about using are...

Tome of Thaumaturgy
Eldritch Secrets

- Axel

Still gotta go with Eldritch Secrets.

(I can vote more than once, right? ...right?)

Some suggestions for the subtitle...

Eldritch Secrets: Hidden Incantations of Mana

Eldritch Secrets: Horded Spells of Forbidden Magics

Eldritch Secrets: Varied Arcana of Realms Far and Forgotten

Eldritch Secrets: A Codex of Powerful and Forbidden Magics

Eldritch Secrets: A Codex of Horded and Forbidden Magics

The Spell Compendium Project will henceforth be called...

Eldritch Secrets

I'm glad that the majority liked this title, because it has definitely been my front runner for a while... so now I just have to find a really cool subtitle!

Awesome!

My top two suggestions are:

Varied Arcana from Realms Far and Forgotten

A Codex of Horded and Forbidden Magics

(P.S. A little off subject, but any word on the second playtest?)

My 6 week-vacation starts in about... 2 days! After that, I will be working really hard on the second playtest, and honestly, all I think it takes is two-three days of really hard work.

So hopefully... the second playtest will be ready very soon!

- Axel

How about "A Tome of Mystic Lore" as the subtitle?

The Big Book of Blasting and Sparkling Lights

Time for a bit of news...

I've decided to release the first half of the playtest spells for the contributors sunday, with the rest followin (hopefully) close behind... I have been battling a flu and the lack of glasses, which is not making this work easier :)

So all contributors... expect a pdf soon!

Oh and a related question...

I've been thinking about releasing the playtest edition of Eldritch Secrets for the public. It will cost $2 or $3, but when the final book is released, the early buyers will receive a discount for that very amount. This will hopefully give me a lot of playtesters, and some cash to buy artwork for.

What do you think about that plan? Is it reasonable? Maybe I should offer the early buyers an even bigger discount for taking part in the playtesting... any thoughts on this?

Sorry, just realised that maybe this question should get its own thread.
