Male Human Cleric3

Morning Shae! Can you move the light a bit to the east?

Taking 20 for my morning track check - 20+10 = 30.

M orc Paladin / 1

What I learned

Spoiler:

Although I thought the strategy of intimidating, to buy time to utilize detect evil was necessary, as well as giving the opportunity to flee prior to attacking. I thought it might pose some risks to the party but it did not.

OK so there will be a few loose ends to tie up on the previous month XP to be awared and such....That will let the planets re-align.

As the morning light comes up and you are searching for signs and tracks you notice movement and blackness on the ice in the valley below.

As you make out the shapes in the brightening morning light you see all of the tengu in a mass movement away from the heights of the mountains and toward the flats of the glacerial ice flow.

I will need perception checks for any who are curious about the sight
and you can take 10 or 20 for this check...Please tell me what you are looking at (such as counting tengu, etc)

And

Spoiler:

Good day

M Half-Orc Rogue 1

Now on Obsidian Portal under login Gnoshferhul. Gnosh learned that going after artifacts to thumb his nose at the Scions only gets him a cold thumb and nose.

Gnosh crouches and tries to follow the tengu's trail back to the heights and get a sense of where the group had originated. "Maybe a good place to check before following 'em forward."

Take 20 + 4 = 24 Perception to look back towards the mountain and find a point of origin.

Gnosh

Spoiler:

The tracks are clealy visible in the snow and appear to lead to the third or possibly fourth peak of the mountain you are on.

The origin of the tracks is much higher up and will take at least a full day of climbing.

M Half-Orc Rogue 1

Gnosh grunts. "Well, if you all feel like a bit of climbing, we could make it to where they were by the end of the day, but it'd be a long haul and we might not find anything useful."

Male Human Cleric3

Hm, now that horde, I could track.

I am going to take 20 on perception check/s, to: count the Tengu, see if they are marching quickly or simply moving that direction, and try to see if i can discern where they are heading to.

20+5 = 25.

Azhateran

Spoiler:

Your count is 21 tengu, they seem to be moving at haste toward what appears to be a super sized glacier in the midst of the snow and ice field.
You estimate the tengu will arrive that day and it would take at least 2 days to catch up with the tengu assuming they stop at that destination...

LG male human [taldan] paladin of Shelyn 1 [AC 18/12/16; hp 1/10]

After watching the advancing murder of avians, Andreas turns his gaze north. I'm more interested in where they're going. I can't imagine why they'd be headed to the ice fields beyond the mountains. From all the tales I've heard, the Frostlands make these passes seem like spring in Crescent Harbor.

Summary: What Andreas Learned The warmth of a fire and a dry common room causes the men of Camlin to become creative thinkers.

Andreas go ahead and clarify what details you are looking at for your perception check

LG male human [taldan] paladin of Shelyn 1 [AC 18/12/16; hp 1/10]

I'm not making any Perception checks at the moment; I'll leave that to those more suited for scouting.

Female Half elf Witch 1

After glaring at Andreas' mention of even colder weather, Sioned whistles quietly at the group of Tengu wishing she had looked around more during the last few days of hiking.

"Can we make a guess whether they're going the same direction as the ones we are tracking?"

{ooc}One sentence...how about "despite the cold, Sioned is finding comfort in travelling and bonding with a group of companions."

Sioned

Spoiler:

It seems likely that the tracks you are following merge with the larger group at a junction ahead. your guess is midway down the mountain.

As everyone surveys the scene and begins to decide what to do Fubar notices something.....

M orc Paladin / 1

"Iss tha a sled covered in white between tha tengu, it doenot look loke itsa bein npulled by nothin"

Fubar scratches his head

At the moment Fubar speaks the sun rises just enough to create direct and unnbearable glare and the tengu parade fades into the dazzling morning sunlight.

M Half-Orc Rogue 1

"Glaargh!" cries out Gnosh who had just turned to look at what Fubar was pointing out.

I learned that doing rolls in advance might be a good idea, and K learned that sometimes, the job of a guide and explorer can get a whole lot more dangerous than simply showing tourists around.

"Magic?" mutters KD, loud enough for everyone to hear.

She had taken 20 (+9) on perception to try and discern their general behavior.

Caydee

Spoiler:

Generally they seem to be anxious and hurried. At this distance your impression is a general energy, but can not tell if excitement or fear.

Female Half elf Witch 1

Sioned is crouched in the snow, shading her eyes from the glaring sun. She begins to mutter to herself...thinking outloud.

"The rest of the Rector's group never made it back to Camlin and they were bringing the largest piece of Corvaut's metal man. What the fat man had with him...and what the Tengu stole...are simply the smaller parts he could quickly carry along. Now those Tengu" nodding down towards the larger group, "are carrying something larger and trying to make good time to the same place as those we are tracking."

"If I had to guess, I think the remainder of Covaut's crew were relieved of their items as well and the Tengu are all running to bring the pieces together."

"Regardless, we know where our quarry is heading and it will be easier to track the large group. We should be able to make better time without having to constantly pause and re-establish the trail."

She looks around at the others to see if they agree with her thinking.

M orc Paladin / 1

"Seems tha birds o a feather an all will likely be true inna case o tengu."

"I am fer hearin what ever one isa thinkin."

Fubar turns away from the glare and is glad for his shield which blocks the sun reflected from the snow

Male Human Cleric3

Yeah, I think we should follow the tengu, and try not to be seen. Now, I just have to find that ring of invisibility and wings of flying and I'll be set!

The ranger shoots Ahz an exasperated look. "I agree with your first sentence. Either we do that, or we might as well go home."

As everyone prepares to head in pusuit of the fleeing tengu, I will need

Spoiler:

Marching order
perception and
inititiative rolls
for the day

and any specific information your character would like to share.

Male Human Cleric3

Hm, I don't really need to be in front anymore if we aren't tracking...but the marching order we have seems to work on for now I guess. I'm ok for keeping the same or re-arranging or whatever.

How many perception and initiative rolls?

M Half-Orc Rogue 1

Gnosh steps into the middle of the line as the party trots down to follow the Tengu. The bag of gear slung over his shoulder clanks and clatters as he moves along, and he grimaces at all the noise he is making.

Perception 11d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

On perception & initiative rolls

Spoiler:

You can roll one if you want to as a for the day.
The roll can last till midday (then you should re-roll).

If your roll was poor it stands for at least 2 hours
Then you can re-roll a new check in 2 hours or keep the original roll

Hoping making the rolls early will speed up combat when/if it occurs

Male Human Cleric3

Thrice a day sounds good to me - morning, midday, evening. And I almost never get to use the word thrice.

Keeping an eye out and ready for anything in the morning:
Perception:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Into the middle of the day, see what we shall see:
Perception:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

And for the evening, as darkness approaches:
Perception:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

Experience for last session:

First, for combat - 2 wolves, and 3.5 tengu (half credit for the bow-wielding one who escaped) = (2x400)+(3.5x400)=2200/6 = 367 each
Next, single event xp for background stories = 100 each
Last, for playing in character and for what your character learned = 50xlvl = 50x1 = 50 each
Lastly, for the fun I had in running my first PbP session in years, 33xp each

Total - 550xp each. Including the 300 for the last session, we should each have 850xp, out of the 1300xp we need for level 2 if using fast advancement (which I think we decided on, and I think is a good enoguh idea, thats at most about 1 level/3 months = 4 levels a year).

Female Half elf Witch 1

Continues to follow in the middle of the pack, quietly talking to herself...or Rusty...or the snow.

For the start of the day:
Perception:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Initiative:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

For mid-day:
Perception:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Initiative:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

For evening:
Perception:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Initiative:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

M orc Paladin / 1

Fubar takes up the rear guard position and retains his scimitar and shield

Early
perception
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
Initiative
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Mid
perception
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9
Initiative
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Late
perception
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
Initiative
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

The morning passes uneventfully with a few snow flurries and the snow on the ground crunching beneath your feet at every step.

The trackers are certain that the tengu being trailed merges with the throng of tracks ahead, that you saw this morning.

For most perception rolls the following applies.

Obviously at this point the tengu stopped and a heavy sled was abandoned here. It appears to have been hastily unloaded. Silk rope is still still tied to the sled. Just in front of the sled a 6 foot wide band of pressed snow starts from that point forward crushing the snow into ice.

The following only applies to Azhteran, due to midday perception check

Spoiler:

In this area you find the empty satchel that once contained the parts the tengu took from the town. You discovered the strap coming out from under a drift of snow.

LG male human [taldan] paladin of Shelyn 1 [AC 18/12/16; hp 1/10]

Andreas take up a position at the front of the group, ready to support those leading the group or fall back to assist those in the middle as needed.

Upon reaching the sled, the paladin takes a moment to rest on the discarded transport and idly fingers one of the pull ropes. A bit odd that they should abandon this in the middle of the Gorge, don't you think? Can't say I know what to make of it; maybe they distributed their load amongst themselves when they met with the group we were tracking, as we did when we left town.

Requested Rolls

  • Morning Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4; Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
  • Midday Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13; Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
  • Evening Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11; Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

  • Male Human Cleric3

Examining the pressed snow, Ahz shakes his head. This load wasn't distributed, it was moved from the sled to...something else. Another form of sled, like a tobaggin? Not sure, something spread out and with a lot of weight on it caused this ongoing path. Hm, what's that...

Ahz walks over and pulls the satchel out of the snow. (For anyone who does not read other peopel spoilers, it is the satchel from town and our initial encounter with the Tengu). He will exam it for any traces of what was in it or anything left behind, as well as examine the snow around it for anything left or fallen out. After showing it to the rest of the group, Ahz will begin untying silk rope from the sled and putting it in his pack. Never know when yo ucan use a bit more rope, and its light enough even I can carry it. They seem to be in a hurry, but we are 2 days behind them so I guess a few minutes during midday break won't hurt. Hm, come to think of it, I'll keep the satchel too, may come in handy either to be dramatic, or just to carry something in.

    M orc Paladin / 1

"This donat make any sense tah me..."

"Are we tah go up tha mountain tah tha tengus home or after tha tengu that a way"

Fubar points first up the mountain then toward the icefields as he speaks

LG male human [taldan] paladin of Shelyn 1 [AC 18/12/16; hp 1/10]

The ones that attacked Camlin are moving toward the ice. Andreas stands, brushing snow from his clothes as he does.

I'm starting to think their heads are on a tad crooked; I can't imagine anyone that would willingly travel north with winter coming so soon. Then again, I think we should probably keep following them. What do you suppose that says about me? The paladin punctuates his statement with a grin as he adjusts his gear in preparation of continuing on.

    Female Half elf Witch 1

"The stolen artifacts and the Tengu that were responsible for Camlin went that way." Gesturing after the group they are following, "I don't think we need to be visiting their homes and causing a conflict on increasing tensions. Would make us no better than them."

With the majority vote in we will move ahead (after the tengu) with Caydee still able to make a choice when she can post as to where she is headed

As you follow the massive foot prints and the "tobbagon" indentations throught the snow the sun passes its zenith and begins its slide into the horizon.

I am now using your evening perception/initiative rolls

    Azhateran perception pays off

    Spoiler:

You notice two snow drifts along the trail behind just moved forward about 30 feet and right now they are 15 feet behind Fubar at the rear guard position.

as a side note you managed to unwind 50 feet of black silk rope which is actually a masterwork length of rope made from tengu feathers.

    Andreas

    Spoiler:

will be the first to act

    Male Human Cleric3

Ahz whips around and points. Fubar, incoming!

    M orc Paladin / 1

Fubar spins around to the rear to meet the oncoming menace with scimitar and shield

    "Grarr!"
Fubar roars to intimidate the pair of charging creatures

A pair of white shaggy humaniod creatures the size of dwarves stop abruptly in their full tilt run.

They come to a stop and each throws an icy ball at Fubar!

    Attack roll #1
    1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
    Damage
    1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

    Attack roll #2
    1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
    Damage
    1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Unfortunatly fubars shield was not quite in position and the second ice chunk hurls into his head and shoulders knocking fubar to the ground.

The creatures howl with glee and charge forward!

    Andreas is up!

Sorry about the slow posting. Work is a pain. Six hours picking blueberries for under minimum wage, and it's my first job, too.
K will have been traveling beside Ahz. By now, it would probably be redundant to roll the perception checks, so I will if there's anything specific, but feel free to roll for K if there's anything secret.
    initiative for normal round; 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

    Caydee

    Spoiler:
I went forward with the game from your last post to the tracking and moved on to this point.  I wanted to make sure that you did not feel skipped (or left out).  Would you have preferred I waited longer before moving the game forward?

    Everyone

    Spoiler:

Can I assume majority vote on a course of action is acceptable and move forward from that point acting as if everyone was "in" on the decision?

    Andreas is Up.

    Male Human Cleric3

I'm ok with moving ahead with a 4/6 majority if I haven't posted yet - also ok if for somereason I am afk for a long time and havent explained why, for DM to roll for me, etc.

    Female Half elf Witch 1

{ooc} I'm ok with that. To keep things moving, you can NPC me any time I don't respond within a day. I am assuming that majority rules will work fine for determining the party actions. No need to wait for someone to say "yup, I follow the party to the East."

Just in advance, on Sioned's turn she will try and Hex one of the critters into a slumber. I'm sort of a one trick pony at the moment :)

    M Half-Orc Rogue 1

Gnosh will drop his sack of gear and draw his falchion on his turn.

    To the East!

    Andreas is Up.

Go ahead. I'm fine with Caydee being passed over/played as an NPC, it actually makes it easier for me.

LG male human [taldan] paladin of Shelyn 1 [AC 18/12/16; hp 1/10]

Andreas turns to the battle beginning at the rear of the group. Dropping his weapon into a ready position, the paladin moves toward the creatures attacking the party while quickly scanning for additional threats.

As everyone else, I have no problem with moving forward should I be absent. My silence is certainly no reason to hold everyone up.

Since it looks like I'll not be getting in range for an attack this turn, I'll use a Move Action to close the gap and help me do so during the next. As a Standard Action I'll cast detect evil, and see if I note anything in the area.

    I am thinking

    Spoiler:

When it is the Party's turn I will just say so and then let everyone post in any order and resolve the actions in initiative order once everyone has posted....

The creatures continue at a full run toward you, white foam spews from the corners of their mouths as they bound towards you at times using their arms to run even faster!

    Andreas

    Spoiler:

    You detect no evil

One of the creatures runs right past Fubar, the other stops over Fubar......

    Sioned

    Spoiler:

....and begins to fall into a hexed slumber

    M orc Paladin / 1

Fubar manages to slowly rise to his feet this turn, but takes no other actions nor speaks.

If Fubar sees the monster in front of him you can not tell it as even his shield hangs limply by his side

If you want to roll a perception check out of game or hopefully my description was enough to give away....

    Spoiler:

    Fubar is staggered
