Vardara:
Are you ready to take over DMing?

Vardara, if you are:
The check is to notice signs that the party is approaching the crevice where the original construct is.

Yes I am

{ooc}Grashnak/Nightflier, I saw there was an invitation to you for the campaign on Obsidian Portal, did you get that and get a chance to accept? It looks like we're getting ready for DM changeover.

I will be taking over GMing duties from Yucale and will post with this alias. For Fubar, Yucale and Hellfire, I've sent you a message via obsidian portal. Can you please check-it.

The hills you've been walking through are covered in deep snow and the wind has erased any prints that had been there. However, Az sharp eyes notice a small crack in one of the valleys you are about to cross.
The instructions of the tengu were clear. The shortest route for the crevice were to follow that crack as it tuned south then east to get to a place were it was possible to go down. You dutifully follow the indications until the small crack grows to a crevice about four feet large and turns west.

Survival check everyone please

Male Human Cleric3

Survival Check - 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

Ahz continues talking to himself and Karrg every now and then.

M orc Paladin / 1

Survival
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (11) - 2 = 9

I will check the portal later on...

"Finally, we're getting somewhere!" Cay briefly fantasizes about a nice warm bath back at town.

survival check 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

Male Human Cleric3

Ahz looks at Caydee in mock alarm. Careful K, its a....crevice!

F Human Paladin of Asterius 1/ Boreal Sorceress 1

Vardara has followed the group, reveling at the progression in the snow and happy to be out of the city walls.

Survival check 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

After the bend, the crevice waves for miles westwards as you follow it. Just before sundown, Az and Caydee spot a place where the side of the crevice seems to have be eroded by a heavy weight.
Looking down, you can see that the bottom of the crevice, about 40 feet down, is wide enough so that someone can walk without being constrained.

Male Human Cleric3

I suppose it would be ok to spend the night out of the weather. Well, for the rest of us. Ahz smiles at Vardara, and starts to get out ropes and climbing gear.

M orc Paladin / 1

"Not sayin anything to be o offense but we should return to town post haste for I have begun tah smell as an Orc!"

If you intend to go down, you need to precise the order of the prople going down. DC for climbing down is 5 with a rope and 20 without

Male Human Cleric3

I'll go down first, so as not to squish anyone below me if I fall :).

Climb check: 1d20 ⇒ 11

I forget right now if I need modifiers for my armor and gear - and am at work so no time to look it up yet. Should be ok though :)

"I'll go last, because I probably won't fall. Though our cleric here has been making me wonder if he wants my job." She gives him a mock glare.

climb 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Male Human Cleric3

Falling down crevices? Nah, you can keep that job, you're much better at it than I am. Ahz gives KD a smile and a wink.

M orc Paladin / 1

"I shall go second"

Climb check
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Male Human Cleric3

As it turns out, armor check penalty for breastplate is -4. The -2 for heavy wooden shield does not count (though I would still get over a 5 if it did) because I cannot climb while wielding a shield :). So my final result is a 7. If we need further checks, I will simply take 10s (for final results of 6) unless something else comes up before I reach the bottom.

F Human Paladin of Asterius 1/ Boreal Sorceress 1

On her turn, Vardara, unhindered by armor, glides down the rope to join everyone else.

Climb 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

As you climb down the crevice without injuries, the ice changes from a dull white to an eerie blue, almost as if it was pulsing with its own light.

The bottom of the crevice is solid rock recovered by a thin ice crust from time to time. It is considered difficult terrain unless I precise it. At this place, the crevice is about 4 feet large but seems to widen further on. You can easily squeeze one past the other but you need to move one behind the other for now. Despite the ice glow, it is quite dark and you see the sky turning pink and gold as the sun set.

Do you intend to stop here or travel by night?

"Everyone happy breaking camp around here?" Cay suggests.

M orc Paladin / 1

"I think it best tah find a defensible spot fer this stop over an remember fallin ice....Perhaps moving forward and findin ground where we have our feet under us."

Suggest moving forward hopefully out of the difficult terrain

Male Human Cleric3

Hm, not sure it will get much better than this. I don't mind looking a bit, but think it would be just as dangerous or worse stumbling around in the night. I suggest we spend up to a half hour for looking, no more. As we all know, the colors of sunset in winter here last that long maximum before pitch black dark.

F Human Paladin of Asterius 1/ Boreal Sorceress 1

"I agree with you, Az, the ground has been like that all day long and it's not bound to change."

After half an hour walk along the crevice, the scenery has not really changed. The light is getting really low and the sky has turned black. Luckily, the moon is up but down the crevice, its light is not enough to go by.

As you eventually settle for the night, you realise that without the wind and due to the narrow crevice, your heath is reflected by the ice and you spend an uneventful night.

Just before sunset, you are all woken up by a strange sound reflecting all around you. The volume increase, drilling into your head and suddenly, it stops.

Perception DC 25:
In the silence, you hear a very low noise, almost too low for hearing. It goes on and on and does not seem to stop.

F Human Paladin of Asterius 1/ Boreal Sorceress 1

Vardara stands up from her couch and like she did the day before, mutters an indistinct formulae, waving her hands in strange and complex moves. The ice at her feet grows up, covering her from toe to head.

"What was that?

Perception 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

Caydee stands up in alarm, fumbling with her bow.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

No chance making that perception roll....

Fubar readies his falchion.

"Have at thee!"

Male Human Cleric3

perception check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Ahz sleepily stumbles into the wall. This ice...it's cold!

Standing in silence for a few minutes, you do not hear anything else.

Who do you want to do? Just to remind you, the chasm you're walking in is five feet wide only.

Male Human Cleric3

Pick the direction that looks like it is getting wider and go that way? Or the other way, whatever the party decides. And move along, single file, looking/listening for whatever the helle that was from earlier. Ahz will be behind KD.

M orc Paladin / 1

Fubar moves to position himself alongside Vardara noting that the two of them should be able to turn aside the onslaught of evil.

"I have thought to protect those who can not see in the darkness"

Cay rolls her eyes and drags the human cleric behind her to take up position behind Fubar. "Of course it's cold." She remarks to Fubar and Vardara, "I had thought to take point position; me eyesight's good, and I have a bow."

Male Human Cleric3

Ahz stops to laugh merrily at the sight of Fubar and Vardara trying to squeeze through a 5' wide passage side by side.

K, you can always shoot between their legs or indirect fire stragiht up and over them? :)

M orc Paladin / 1

"yer bows only as good as the next turn in this ice crack."

F Human Paladin of Asterius 1/ Boreal Sorceress 1

"No need to get so uptight about things, I'll leave my place to you KD, so you're just behind Fubar."

As you walk forward, still worrying about the strange noise that woke you, the crevice slowly widens and you arrive at a point where two of you can walk side by side. On both sides of the chasm, the ice is bluer and colder than ever and you realize you are about 40 feet under the surface.
About 30 feet in front of you, there is a sharp bend to your left.

Perception check DC15:
You hear a low moan, as if someone was injured right by the turn.

F Human Paladin of Asterius 1/ Boreal Sorceress 1

Perception check 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2

Cay begins to feel uneasy. "Everyone has their weapons ready, right?"

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

M orc Paladin / 1

Perception
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7

"Yeah I have my falchion here in my righ I mean left hand..."

Male Human Cleric3

perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Ahz hisses softly. Whispering fiercely - Quiet. Something is there I believe.

Male Half-Orc Ranger 2

Grashnak sniffs the air like some sort of wild animal. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

I'm going to be gone for a few days due to traveling; the DM is welcome to play my character as an NPC when necessary.

Grash/Night you have an invitation to the campaign on Obsidian Portal. KD, have a good trip

F Human Paladin of Asterius 1/ Boreal Sorceress 1

I cannot detect any evil from here. Anyone wants to have a look?, murmurs Vardara, or do we move together

M orc Paladin / 1

"I can have a look."

Fubar moves forward alone if possible....

Male Human Cleric3

Ahz whispers It sounds as if something might be injured there.

After an inward smile at paladins in general Ahz moves forward behind Fubar, close enough to get there if necessary, but far enough to be out of accidentally sword range if swinging comes up.

Cay follows quietly, just behind Ahz.

Wasn't a good trip. Actually, it just consisted of a five-hour car ride. Which wasn't the worst of it...
We were a half hour from our vacation destination when my mom gets a call, bursts into tears, and we learn that my grandmother passed away. So, I'm back at home while my mom heads north to help with the arrangments and stuff. Not a good trip.
