Can you vital strike then cleave?

Rules Questions

The Exchange

The requirements of both Cleave and Vital Strike state that you must make a single attack(as opposed to a full attack). Does that mean you can Vital Strike a creature, then Cleave his friend? I assume that the Vital Strike bonus would only apply to the first attack.

No as both take a standard action ya can not use them at the same time.

The Exchange

The Vital Strike text only says that you can use it while making an attack action, not a standard. Cleave is a standard action that makes an attack.

James or Jason said that you can only do one or the other. When the new errata comes out it will be included. It is on one of the other post here.

This has been discussed already. Alot. See what the search function brings up: Search: Vital Strike Cleave

Or at d20pfsrd.com's FAQ

"Attack Action" is not the same as an attack. It is a specific type of Standard Action, like Casting a Spell is. If something else like Cleave says "as a Standard Action" that means it is "it's own" Standard Action, thus not the "Attack Action". That is clarified more on d20pfsrd's FAQ with quotes from Jason Buhlman.
