"Reduced" Creature Simple Template

Homebrew and House Rules

I want a weakened, but not smaller version of a creature that will appear in an upcoming game. I'm wondering if I just applied the Advanced Simple Template in "reverse" would the creature in fact be -1 CR?

I would have to assume so, but I possibly could see some issues with ability scores becoming so low that a creature is no longer effective >.> Thus negating its CR all together...

But that's just a hypothetical guess..., with no real math or test.

I believe hypothetical was the correct word for that.. ? Hmm

Why not use the Young Creature simple template? It's CR -1.

Doesn't that reduce the size though, he doesn't want to reduce the size. (I'm assuming the reduction in size is in part what lowers the CR)

Also, O.O Holy shi- it's Sean.

Uhm >.> Question, did you ever do any work for a Pathfinder Feat Point System?, and any tips for converting your Feat Point system to PF?

I assume you mean the quick-rules for the Young Template.. Though I suppose that would work.. isn't it factoring in the changes from a size decrease?

Yeah, I'm guessing even though it's the factors from a size, Sean is right, it would be the easiest and most efficient method from what I can see by using the Quick Rules for the simple template..

I just don't like that it's size factors, even though you wouldn't ya be reducing the size officially ><

Can't really argue with the guy, lol, he knows what he's doing ><

He's helped create the system, lol. ><

-Bows before you- (Not being sarcastic)

Give it a cold (ie: pick a disease to be infecting it)

If it's had it for a few days then it should be sufficiently weakened depending on the disease and it has a chance of infecting the party adding a whole new dynamic! Should be fun.

The point of the quick-use version of the templates is that you don't have to reconfigure anything, and the "GM's best friend" rule of +2/-2 means you can handle it on the fly. As the quick-use versions are basically opposites (advanced is +2 better everywhere, young is -2 worse* everywhere), it doesn't really matter if you use the young creature template or "reverse" the advanced creature template.

* Yes, I know that "-2 worse" is actually +2 better, but you know what I mean. :p

Actually, that last part I don't comprehend.

The main problem with the young creature template is that it reduces the creature's size. I want a creature that is the same size as the base creature. One thing I've been thinking of is giving it a couple of negative levels.

Yes, it would. If +2 to all rolls and stats increases the CR by 1, -2 to all stats and rolls decreases the CR by 1.

In math, subtracting a negative value is the same as adding a positive value.

So MINUS -2 is the same as PLUS 2.

The "quick rules" version of the simple template (which is what I've been recommending in this discussion) doesn't actually change the creature's Size.

To lay out Sean's suggestion with complete clarity:

Wuss Template
'Wuss' is a simple template that can be applied to any creature.
Rebuild Rules
CR: Reduce CR by 1
AC: Reduce natural armor bonus by 2 (to a minimum of 0)
Ability Scores: Subtract 4 from all ability scores (to a minimum of 3).
