The northern half of Oregon gets pretty bland, but then things pick up again after you hit Portland.
'Cause its mostly city-farmland-city-farm-podunk-podunk-city-farm...:P
The way I view it, a long road trip is something worth doing once in a while. Just remember to bring the camera and stop every once in a while. :D

Yeah, some good scenery particularly from Red Bluff, CA to Roseburg, OR.
A good pit-stop might be Ashland, as there's some great cafes, breweries, restaurants and just grocery stores there, though the whole town tends to be pretty pricey. Eugene also has some good food and drink happening.
Only town in Oregon with a sales tax, wheee!

Hey, don't make me put down my pet pig Hoggly and stop square dancing to set you straight there, miss city slicker ;-)
You also missed "forest" in "city-farmland-forest". It is a scenic drive, all the way. If you are looking for distractions, the best things are always off the highway. But often you can find some nice coffee places or lunch spots on the way, so its useful to google towns along the way to see what's available.
A very nice stop along the way in Oregon is Crater Lake. Incredibly beautiful, plus the surrounding pumice desert is sort of surreal.

Just adding a +1 to the drive from Sacramento to Bellevue. Its an easy drive during summer, and I think b-e-a-utiful. I think the entire thing is great, but the times I've done it was at the at the end (or beginning) of long trips that involved going through So Cal, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas...which is pretty terribad on the whole.
Dont be surprised in Oregon if you've never driven through, you cant pour your own gas in that state (weirdos!).

Crater Lake is on the way?
Depending on your interpretation of "on the way" I cant vouch for the road quality, but Im guessing theyd be fine in June, Crater lake will be a 2-3 hours detour. The easiest way, I think, would be to get on the 97 at Weed, which drivers near Crater Lake, then eventually you hop back on another random road to the I-5 again.

Heheh, yeah - the roads will be much nicer come June, but the lake is more of a destination itself. I wouldn't really consider it to be "on the way" - more like a day-long side-trek.
It's gorgeous though. I haven't been up there for a few years, and I'm really disappointed about that.
Anyone know if they're still letting you wander around Wizard Island? I had heard a rumor a while ago that they were restricting that, or going to restrict it...

Can't go this year. WAAAAA! (:-0
Oh, so about 2 hours depending on the speed you travel at then!
Cool, thanks!
