AAremeth |

Where did you have your boots made Trevor? I need to get a pair like them."
After a moment of admiring Trevor's foot gear Aaremeth will note that harn as moved forward to speak with someone that they were obviously looking for.
Aaremeth smiled inwardly, he wouldn't swing an axe to chop down a tree he would use chemicals to do the work for him. between his acid formula and a few well placed bombs he could get the work done in a day. but that would hurt thr economy so, let the lumber jacks think that their strong arms were all that mattered.
Nodding to the answer that Milon had for them he asked a folow up question. where would that tree line up compared with the Ulzima's and the ruins?

Trevor the Yellow |

As he gets up, satisfied with his lacing, Trevor adds: Thanks so much Milon. Tell your niece we're making haste. Thinking about what reputation Denko must have given him, Trevor keeps a quiet presence and is ready to move on.

Lueck |

I would recommend that we push on for the afternoon. The closer we get to each ingredient, the sooner we can have a cure in the hands of those children back in town. And if the dark princess has other surprises in store for us, I don't know that we should expose these hardworking men to her wrath because we are striving to defy her. Having said that, he looks to Harn and Trevor especially, the locals who would probably know these woods and their dangers the best.

Harn Jenkins |

Nodding in agreement, Harn says "Normally I wouldn't want ta be caught in the Vale at night, but seeing as how we are running against time and the evil o' this dark princess, I say we get a move on." Then turning to Milon, Harn offers his hand once more as he says, "Thanks fer the help Milon and we'll try out best to get what Laural needs ta save little Pheobe."
With that, Harn heads out for the center of the Vale, where the oldest tree in the forest was rumored to be. As he came closer to the forest edge, Harn prepared himself for what he might find. He had entered the woods a few times before and even had to scare off the occasional animal, but he had never had reason to travel as far as they would be traveling. Any can see Harn tense a little, as if preparing for some unknown creature that makes its home in the depths of the forest.

Trevor the Yellow |

"Stay sharp everyone the Vale didn't get his reputation for nothing. Harn will open and I will close, that way, one of us is likely in front in case of trouble. From what I gather, Harn and I will do the "talking". Is that how you see things? Lueck, do you feel like you want step up close with opposition? Nikolae, is Vermiis the "talking" kind?" Trevor is also uncomfortable with going into the woods. Those tales always have a part that's true, and then there's the tale that the poor suckers never got a chance to tell...
As the group enters the woods, Trevor keeps an eye out for signs of trouble. Checking his shoelaces once in a while...

I can handle my blade in a fight as well gents, and unlike that cultixt I have no reason to take a prisoner out here, besides I also have a few of these conversation stoppers. he casully holds up a bomb. [B] if i say clear and I am throwing something for goodness sakes stay clear. I doubt ill have to tell anyone twice after you see them in action.[b] aaremeth will feed quicksilver as they walk along.

Vermiis is sniffing at the trail, exploring the various scents, and turns to look back at Aaremeth's mule, saying something softly in another language, to which Nikolae responds in kind.
Thassilonian (safe to read even if you don't speak it)
"Maybe later."

Trevor the Yellow |

Casters at the edge of the time period, preferably at the end, so they get a better chance of recuperating, no? If we agree, Harn and Trevor would take slightly longer shifts, in the middle of the night. Lueck 2 hr, Harn 2 hr, Trevor 2 hr, Vermiis 2 hr, Nikolae 1 hr, AAremeth 1 hr. How does that sound?

DM Mode Activated |

OK, If I don't see anything different by this evening then I will go with this lay out for the watch for now.
You all leave the lumber camp, and head west into the wood. The first half hour or so isn't to bad as you follow the main lumber trail, but shortly after that you find yourselves in true wild woodland. You follow game trails, letting Harn guide you through the beautiful yet foreboding Wood. Great Darkwood trees fill the wood, as well as oak and other deciduous breeds. The undergrowth is not as heavy as one would imagine in such a wild place. Little direct sunlight gets through the great canopy, and it seems not long before your thoughts head toward camp before it grows to dark to prepare a proper one. You find a nice clearing next to a spring. DO you stay here, or press on for another half an hour before darkness decides for you?

Harn Jenkins |

Coming to a stop in the clearing, Harn tries to get a judge of the time with the small amount of light coming through the canopy. "Well, we can camp here o' continue fer another half hour o' so before we would have to camp fer the night. With the darkness as it is now, we wouldn't have much time ta prepare a camp if we continued on. What do ya think?"
Trevor's watch order looks good to me, only concern is that I'm not sure how the eidolons work, if Vermiis can take a shift when he does, or if he'll disappear in the middle of the night and have to be resummoned.

Trevor the Yellow |

"I like it here. Let me give you a hand with the tent posts: the instructions seem to have been badly translated from some orcish dialect! If it stops raining, I'll prefer not to sleep in it, though I want them handy in case it starts pouring. We'll set up the tarpaulin so that we can be near the fire."
Trevor will follow Harn's lead to set up the camp. After this, he does a little tour of the camp's surroundings, so that he has a mental image of the terrain around, and the easiest ways in and out of the camp. He'll bring Harn along if he has time and let the others know what he found.

Is it still raining?

![]() |

Nikolae assists with setting up the tents, while Vermiis finds a gnarled tree root that rises a few inches above the sodden ground, and perches there to watch through yellow eyes, as if supervising.
"Vermiis will remain as long as needed," Nikolae says to Harn, when questioned if he can take a shift, "Although he will need sleep the same as any living creature, before and after his time at watch."

Trevor it hasn't been raining since the previous night. The fog set in and lasted most of the morning burning off a bit before noon. The day has remained very dreary and autumn is in full swing. Temperature has been in the fifties dipping down into the upper forties during the coldest part of the night. This has been your weather report for the greater Darkmoon Vale region I now return you to your regularly scheduled game.
As you survey your encampment just to your west there is the spring that is running SW as a small creek the water seems clear and drinkable. there are several large Darkwood trees that have quelched the undergrowth in the area making for a nice lichen covered clearing with a thick canopy. There seems to be ample dead wood scattered in the area for a decent camp fire although damp not soaked through thanks to the thick canopy.

Trevor the Yellow |

Trevor shivers as his body rapidly looses the warmth gained from the brisk walk. He keeps busy and moving until the fire starts going. He'll then settle a bit, letting the dampness evaporate and the radiation bathe him. "I'll make some hot water." I wonder if AAremeth's a good cook.

AAremeth |

AAremeth seems to be at peace and has a certai naffinity for the woods, He has often dreamed about the vale and wondered how he came to be in the woods as a toddler, did these woods claim his parents, is he of the wild wood and merely wonder away from what he called home, how was it that he survived in these woods at the age of four if they were as terible as everyone made them sound? if he could survive them as a babe, he could survive them as a grown man. AAremeth puts in his share of the work and then museson how to make the rations taste better. slinging another pot across the water aaremeth attempts to make a stew, hardy enough to feed the six of them, planer creature included, if the beast didn't eat he was sure the other four could handle the left overs.
adding my Int to cooking! Hope thats ok.1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Supper is fine nothing to write home about, but decent stew. Everyone settles in to get some sleep and first watch goes fine. Check the map and let me know if this works for what you had in mind. It is Harn's watch, so you can give me a perception check please Harn let me know if any of you want to move or be sleeping outdoors. I assume if you are wearing l.armor you are ruffing it and sleeping in armor as there are no fatigue penalties for doing so. If you wear heavier please let me know if you leave armor on and take fatigue, or not.
First Camp

Harn Jenkins |

Preferring the outdoors, Harn has taken a seat on a log be the fire. Leaning his axe against the log, within easy reach, he makes sure the fire is going to keep himself warm as he occasionally looks around. When his rump starts to get tired of the hard, uneven wood, he takes a perimeter walk of the camp, taking his axe with him when he does. As he walks the perimeter, he uncaps a torch-shaped object that hangs from his hip which emits light as a torch so that his human eyes can get a look around.
Perception:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
When away from the fire, Harn will use his everburning torch to see by.

Trevor the Yellow |

I'm good where I'm at. With two javelins in the ground, a sunrod (off)near my head and my axe haft under me. I would have put Quicksilver between the spring and the camp, instead of near the trees. But AAremeth has the final word.

AAremeth |

not to be callous toward my favorite mule, but, I think he is a pretty decent alarm system, he has good hearing and if nothing else if something comes in from that way we will have a decent warning, I love my mule but I would rather have our party stay alive. so don't tell quicksilver , but he is on guard duty too. watch looks good to me.
Aaremeth sleeps peacefully as the long days walk did the trick to make him tired enough to sleep with out a straw matress underhim. At the same time he isn't hard to wake.

ok It has been a day so I am going to assume Nikolae is good with things how they are.
Harn about half way through your watch you hear something large rustling through the woods on the other side of the spring it sounds like it is coming to the water. I assume you are going to move to wake the others when you hear a screeching howl from the other side of the stream it is close and doesn't sound happy; Vermiis raises his head looking toward the sounds coming from the woods. If you have know nature you may make a roll, also everyone may make a perception check to awaken to the roar. Harn you may act Vermis may as well everyone else will be delayed until they wake up. consider this round 1 .

Aaremeth swats at something buzzing about his nose and wiggles it has he hears a roar and an answering one from their camp. Aaremeth fumbles for his utility belt and his rapier even while half asleep. This must be the down side to adventuring, rude wake up calls.

Harn hollers out Up and Adam everyone! and rushes over to the stream axe in hand. Vermiis at almost the same instant lets out a panther like scream in answer to the strange howl from the woods. A large musky bear like creature charges into the stream at Harn. It's head and shoulders covered in feathers. where it's maw should be is a vicious beak. Harn gets a very close look at the beak as it scrapes across his chest protected by what now seems all to little armor. Harn's heart pounds in his chest. just missed you Harn

You may act in round three. remember please place any attacks under spoilers you may look at any spoilered actions that have an init higher then yours if you wish I will post updates as I see them. once all actions have been enacted for round 2 I will update map, and post a recap of the round. The stench of burnt Owlbear wafts through the air as it lets out a horrible cry of pain. Not only are those in the camp no longer asleep, but anything in this part of the woods is probably now awake. One unhappy owlbear glares at the elf that just threw something very painful at it.

Trevor the Yellow |

I believe it's Vermiis' turn, unless he acts on Nikolae's.

Round 2 overview:
AAremeth runs up to Harn's right flank adding the final accelerate to a vial he tosses it at the creatures flank with a boom and flash of fire its left hindquarter gets blasted by one of AAremeth's bombs. The stench of burnt Owlbear wafts through the air as it lets out a horrible cry of pain. Not only are those in the camp no longer asleep, but anything in this part of the woods is probably now awake. One unhappy owlbear glares at the elf that just threw something very painful at it.
Vermiis will leap in and bite at the creature, attempting to pull it down, however unlikely that seems to be.The Shadow Drake runs up to Harn's left flank and snaps at the big beast. You swear you hear Vermiis mutter some profanity as he spits out feathers.
Trevor raises abruptly from his mat, grabbing his axe in his left hand and a javelin in his right. Swiftly, he picks up momentum as he raises his javelin and lets go of it with a roar. His adrenalin overtakes him as the javelin soars off into the shadows well overthrown. Trevor regains his composure grips his axe preparing to move in on the beast.
Gripping his axe in both hands, Harn brings its bladed edge to bear against the owlbear, putting more power into his swings, as if trying to cut into a dense darkwood tree. His muscles tense as he swings, unfortunately the beast is swift, and jerks back as Harn's deadly axe catches only air. The creatures red eyes glare at AAremeth, it lunges at him giving Harn and Vermiis both a chance to strike as it shifts to get at AAremeth. AoO for both I will go ahead and roll so we don't slow down the combat.will add detail after I see if these hit. The beast strikes Harn in the chest raking him 6hp damage
as it moves to get at AAremeth. It savagely claws him. 9hp followed with a bite at his arm that barely misses.
Nikolae you get to act starting in round three shall I use what you posted for round 2 as is. The attack will hit you may adjust move if you want, or you may take an all new action. Sorry if I caused any confusion.
