Crit damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Since intimidation didn't work on the guards previously, Andrei didn't bother with it now, instead chopping at them to bring them down with the greatest speed possible.

Andrei deals a great blow against a guard. Despite his gut-wound, the guard neither falls or relents.

Mijanor casts a spell, which his opponent tries to stop ...

Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 -MISS

Will save against Shatter DC 15 1d20 ⇒ 19

... but resists nonetheless.

The guards counterattack, swinging their blood-stained clubs ...

Attack vs Andrei 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 -MISS

Attack vs Mijanor 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 -MISS

The mage begins a spell ...

Round 5 begins, the combat map is the same as the last one.

Him resisting only halves the damage making it 9 hit points damage which still destroys his club. So how does that change his action?

Regardless.....Mijanor looks at the mage, "We'll be 'avin' none o' 'at now." Mijanor says a quick prayer to Torag, touches Andrei, and the area goes as silent as the grave.

Mijanor casts silence on Andrei which should get the mage in the area and interrupt his spell.

Jawn continues to move along the prisoner, trying to catch up to the others.

Cerinwë runs through his options. He quickly steps up ten feet and fires his black wand at the mage.

ray of enfeeblement

To Hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 (includes Point Blank Shot)

Potential Strength Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Fort save for half (DC 13)

male human fighter 5

His mouth open in a silent yell, Andrei hacked away at the guard, trying to get through to reach the mage before he decided to run.

attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
potential damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

You're right. He comes at you with fists instead.

Cerinwë's wand hits the mage.

Fort save 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Jawn makes it to the top of the stairs.

Andrei's opponent finally falls.

The bare-handed guard tries to stop Mijanor from geting his spell off.

Attack 1d20 ⇒ 15 -MISS

Mijanor's magical silence ruins the mage's spell.

Another guard rushes up, taking his fallen collegue's place. He swings at Andrei.

Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 -MISS

The mage swallows a potion, then escapes out the front doors.

Round 6 begins

Combat Map

Male Dwarf Cleric 6

With a look like a thundercloud Mijanor puts his head down and bowls through the guard and continues after the mage not paying the disarmed man any further mind.

Overrun: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Wizard (Diviner) 6

"No! Stop him! He'll summon the monster!"

Cerinwë fires magic missiles at the guard in front of Andrei. If he drops, the remaining missiles go to the one in front of Mijanor.

Damage, Missile #1 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Damage, Missile #2 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Damage, Missile #3 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

male human fighter 5

Following Mijanor's example, Andrei attempted to bull his way past the guards in pursuit of the mage.

Overrun: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

If the armed guard goes down due to Cerinwë's magic missiles first, Andrei just chases the mage. If he catches up to him, he attacks.

potential attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
potential damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Wouldn't the silence prevent you from casting magic missile?

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Wizard (Diviner) 6

Nope! It's a 20' spread and Cerinwë is 25' behind Mijanor.

OK, got it.

Cerinwë's magic missles slice into Andrei's opponent. The beefy guard does not fall and looks still looks ready to take another swing at Andrei.

Jawn drags an uncooperative Rupman Myre into the hall.

Andrei and Mijanor barrel past the guards ...

Attacks of opportunity.

Attack against Andrei 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 -MISS

Attack against Mijanor 1d20 ⇒ 9 -MISS

... and knock them both flat on their backs! The cleric and the warrior catch up with the mage just as he is about to cross the threshold of the front doors.

Rolling attack of opportunity for Mijanor

Attack against mage 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Mijanor's hammer makes a cracking sound against the mage's back. He falls face forward into the muddy street and stirs no more. Seeing the fate of their employer, the remaining guards give up.

Combat is now over.

Male Dwarf Cleric 6

Whooohoo! Nice cinematic scene.

The dwarf says something but nothing is heard as Andrei comes walking up. Realizing what the problem is he dismisses the silence, "Gettin' 'ired o' the mages runnin amuck. Let's be questionin 'im quick an' movin on."

Mijanor will channel energy healing everyone including the downed mage and bind him with Andrei's help. Channel Energy: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4) = 7

It will take a greater spell to heal the mage; he is dead.

Map

Male Dwarf Cleric 6

Finally realizing that his blow was more deadly than he initially believed Mijanor shrugs, "Eh, 'e 'ad it comin'. Now w'at? Wait til 'he beastie comes a lookin' fer 'he keeper?" Thinking a moment, "Mayhaps we ken be findin' some clues w'ere ever 'is un was keepin' 'is books er laboratory er w'at ever 'e was doin doonstairs."

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Wizard (Diviner) 6

"Indeed," replies Cerinwë. He then leads the way back to where they encountered the mage, a thunderous scowl on his face.

Perhaps we can make use of one of the many cells here for this dead weight. Jawn suggests, tilting his head at their captive.

Male Dwarf Cleric 6

"Nay lad, I don't want 'he beastie comin' roond t' get 'im 'en I'm stickin' my nose someplace else."

male human fighter 5

"It is a sad thing when the madmen are the ones let loose in the sanatorium. Let us ensure that no more of his sort," Andrei nudged the fallen mage with his foot, "are torturing the patients of this place before we look for clues. It is the least we can do to see that they do not suffer any more than necessary."

He shrugged. "It will also ensure that no one takes an opportunity to backstab us while we're busy looking."

Male Dwarf Cleric 6

Jawn, going to loot the mage?

Indicating the dead mage with his hammer, "'e could be 'avin' a book or 'he likes on 'im 'at'll tell us morein aboot 'he beastie."

OOC:

You find the following items on the corpse of Keeper Crove (Hyve has identified him):

A normal dagger
A pearl of power
A scroll of binding,
A wand of lesser restoration (8 charges)
amulet of natural armor +1
cloak of resistance +1
bracers of armor +1
a signet ring (probably his arcane bond item)
what could be a holy symbol, but no one recognizes which religion it represents
575 gp

Divide it among yourselves as you see fit.

Male Dwarf Cleric 6

Mijanor will take the wand unless Jawn thinks he has use for it with his use magic device skill and is interested in the amulet but take whatever you guys want from the loot first. Mijanor is pretty happy with his haul up to this point.

male human fighter 5

Andrei is fine with everyone else taking first pick. If no one else wants it, he'll take the cloak, but he won't kick up a fuss if someone else wants it.

Also, everyone is getting very tired. It's well past midnight now.

Do we want to push on in checking out this place? We still haven't found where he was summoning the monster.

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Wizard (Diviner) 6

Cerinwë has been careful to retain his most powerful spells in case we run into the monster, so I'm okay with pushing on. I'd like the Pearl and the scroll

Male Dwarf Cleric 6

Mijanor also has retained some spells specifically for dealing with the beast. He's not going to leave the job half finished while the monster could go around murdering more people. Press on!

male human fighter 5

By all means, let's kick some ass!

My next post is coming up tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.

The Crows soon descend on the now-sundered asylum. Led by their captain Garus, they arrest the surviving guards and force wandering patients back into their cells. The two men who were subjected to the morlock's diabolical experiments are found dead, so traumatic were their surgeries.

"Gods below, I need some sleep," gripes Garus. "The unrest at the docks have finally wound down, but no one know what tomorrow might bring. Good job, men. You've captured or killed all the remaining Keepers. Now let's lock this Rupman Myre and call it a day."

Please level your characters at this point.

Jawn is leveled up now. The items taken should be up to date as well.

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Wizard (Diviner) 6

Cerinwë is leveled up. I took the Pearl and the scroll. I've assumed the pearl of power is for 1st level. Please let me know if it's higher level.

male human fighter 5

Rolling for hps: 1d10 ⇒ 3

Andrei is leveled up as well.

Forgot Hit Points.

1d6 ⇒ 2

Male Dwarf Cleric 6

Hitpoints: 1d8 ⇒ 2 Mijanor is ready. Wow, almost minimum hp's for everyone.

Fantastic. I'll be back soon for the conclusion of our adventure.

At the asylum the heroes, fortified by a full squad of Crows, keep vigil. But soon not even they can stand the lure of sleep, and one by one they drift off into the Dreamlands ...

To be awoken the following morning by the furious pealing of temple bells, warning of great danger. The party is hurried over to the docks. Where once people had gone in search of a ship out of Carrion Hill, they are now desperately fleeing. Frantic survivors describe a hideous monster that appeared from nowhere amidst the crowd, then grabbed and ate people alive.

The party arrives at the docks. Blood and body parts covers the wharf. No Crows have arrived yet. The nightmare they have been hunting is before them; it is herding a group of terrified people onto a dock.

The Beast

Sweet Desna! After just an instant hesitation at the sight of the thing, Jawn will mumble Bless me with your luck, dear lady. And run forward.

Initiative 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Male Dwarf Cleric 6

Looking over the carnage before them Mijanor's face is a thundercloud of fury, "'he beastie comes fr'm Lamashtu's diseased loins fer certain!" Holding his hammer aloft, "Feel 'he wrath o' Torag an' back t' 'he pit wi' ya!"

Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 6

I am assuming that we have all our spells back at this point? Not sure whether the creature is currently invisible or not but Mijanor has Invisibility Purge memorized just in case due to the description up to this point.

Cerinwë wrote:

That's correct. Sorry I missed this.

You have all your spells back, plus any new ones from leveling. You can see the monster.
