True. If they have, however, I predict "Thus endeth the series..."
Camp may work for The Brady Bunch movie. Since the first GIJoe movie didn't (intentionally at least) go for campy comedy, I doubt the series could survive such a transition.
It'd be like taking Police Academy as a series launchpad but then releasing "Police Academy 2: Life on the Street" as an uber-gritty crime noir.
That said, could Hollywood be dumb enough to do it? Yep. Abso-frakkin-lutely.

I hated the first Transformers movie, but as a little kid I always had a soft spot for the "Real American Hero" incarnation of G.I. Joe. I just couldn't bring myself to even watch the Joe movie, because it looked so wretched.
On the other hand, I loved Zombieland, and have higher expectations for the Joe sequel with this news. Might even get me to watch the first one.

It's all about being in the right frame of mind. If you don't go in expecting high drama and Shakespearean acting, it comes out pretty well. The best thing I can suggest is to watch the old 5-part Mass Device cartoon (HERE) which is about the same amount of camp/action (before the weekly series took it to high camp) as Rise of Cobra.
PS. Just a quick note, the VEOH site from the link above requires you to download their movie player to see the whole thing.

I just watched the GI Joe movie the other night. I didn't think it the worst toy based movie I had ever seen. Transformers 2 was much worse. I thought the mechanical suit chase thing was a little overblown and there were a few instances where I couldn't suspend my disbelieve (a motorcycle gets sideswiped by a van and continues on its way as if nothing much had happened) but it was serviceable as mindless entertainment.

I really enjoyed the GI Joe movie. Sure, it wasn't perfect, nor was it 100% true to the cartoon/comics, but is was enough like the cartoon that I got a lot out of it. There were a few things that I would have liked to have seen done differently, mainly sticking closer to the original Baroness.
I bought the DVD and couple of the toys. :)
These guys are good writers, so as long as the humor factor isn't dialed up, I can't wait for #2.
I want:
to see Snake Eyes with Timber
to see Shipwreck as a full-time Joe
to hear Cobra Commander cry "Cobra! Retreat!"
Peace,
