Atapax's Savage Tide OOC Thread

Play-by-Post Discussion

Here's the OOC thread for the new Savage Tide campaign. As far as I can tell we have an Monk, a Cleric, and a Sorcerer. I think Jim was talking about playing a tank for us if he likes the idea of playing. If not I'll throw in a tank. I may throw in a char regardless, we'll see.

Some info for those making their characters. We're using the Pathfinder 25 point buy for stats. You can choose two character trait, plus a third since there's no campaign trait. The campaign starts in Magnimar, if you want some info on that city as well as the surrounds I can provide it.

The only character hook you need to start is that you've done something to bring yourself to the attention of people looking for help. So it could be discovered that you are above the usual.. an adventurer.

I would like backgrounds again too, just like CoT. If you need any help making chars, just let me know.

Male Dwarf Monk 1

It's brycen, just announcing that this is the alias I'll be using as my character for Savage Tide. Though I haven't fully created the character on paper, just restating that I called "Monk", first!

(`n.n)

You're character is actually going to have the last name Rattengod?

Male Dwarf Monk 1

You have a problem with my name?

Quite the contrary, I actually like it. Especially if it comes with a good back-story. It does however remind me of a line from Ratatouille.

“Food should have a name that sounds delicious. But that sounds likes like rat… And patootie. Rat-Patootie. And that does NOT sound delicious.”

But hey, at least you're the first to confirm your character here.

Male Gnome Barbarian/1

<-- Michelle, btw. Okay.. gonna make a barb. Still working on getting everything non-roguarian.

Gotta say. Love the avatar pic. It's perfect.

Ok. So now we got a Monk, a Cleric, a Sorcerer, and a Barbarian. Plenty of damage dealing and even some charisma in there as well. I think I'll throw in an NPC to round it out, just not sure what. Maybe a high AC character since we seem to be low on that.

Once everyone gets their characters posted up on this board I'll make the IC board and we can start.

Male Half-Orc Ranger (Shapeshifter) 1

Well here is the GM NPC. Since no one else made a sailor type, I made a dwarven sailor. Complete with eye-patch and a hook for a hand. :) This seems to be kicking off kinda slow, but maybe this will jumpstart things.

Male Dwarf Monk 1

Dude! I was going over my character last night and I was thinking Dwarven Monk!

With a Dwarven Sailor, Monk, and Fighter... "Why is the Rum always gone?"

No dwarven fighter here unfortunetly. That's in Kingmaker. But if you wanna hook up some familial connections with my guy that'd be cool. He's from Janderhof.

Male Dwarf Monk 1

Was sitting down and getting ready to create... and I realized. How many points are we using for the point buy? 25 or 32?

It's the 25 Pathfinder point buy, not the 35 3.5 point buy.

So the easiest build is 5 14s and one 10. Or a 16, three 14s, and two 10s. I could go on but I'm sure you get the idea.

Male Dwarf Monk 1

Starting at 8 in all stats or 10?

At 10s. Just as it states in the Core Rulebook.

Male Dwarf Monk 1

Alright, Statistically I have created a lvl 1 Dwarven Monk. With skill points in Acrobatics, Perception, and Profession (Drunken Fighting). While I don't plan on taking the 3.5 "Drunken Master" Prestige Class, I just figured it would be great RP if that was his "Style" of fighting. I just gotta come up with his background now.
Abil Stats
STR 14+2
DEX 15+2
CON 17+3
INT 8-1
WIS 18+4
CHA 6-2

okay, so Mandy told me what you wanted to know, and no, the Pale Master is not integral to Lana's character. (Lana is my sorcerer's name.) And now that I look at the Pale Master again, I can't see her wanting to do that. Thanks anyway though!

Right on. I was prepared to work with you either way though. But it did seem to be going that one step further than what you described. Creating undead to use for a single combat is one thing... Grafting undead flesh to yourself is a whole other ballgame.

I do really like the character though. I think we're going to have an interesting group.

A Gnome barbarian that talks to his greataxe as though it were alive.
A Cleric with multiple personalities that each worship vastly different dieties.
A drunk Dwarf Monk.
A Dwarf sailor complete with eyepatch and hook.
And an Undead Human Sorceres.

Deffinitly outcasts. In fact it would be cool for us to all work that theme into our backgrounds. All of us aren't welcome back home.

Male Dwarf Monk 1

Don't give away the BG! That's just mean! I mean... how do you think those guys standing in line for the Titanic felt?

Male Gnome Barbarian/1

Other than skills I should be mostly done.. minus the millions of flaws I'm sure you'll find. ;)

Traphter Flingus wrote:

Well only one thing actually. I assume you're still using the Greataxe sized for a normal person. Hence the Monkey Grip. However, you forgot to add in the -2 to hit from that feat.

That said, looking at it I see that you are using a feat and taking a -2 to hit, all just to go from a d10 to a d12 damage die. An average of 1 more point of damage.

As such, I'm willing to bend the rules and let you use the Medium sized Greataxe without Monkey Grip for just a -2. This is using the rule that you can use a weapon not sized for you at a -2 penalty for each size difference. The only problem is that if the weapon is something other than light, 1-handed, or 2-handed you aren't supposed to be able to use it. (You axe would be above 2 handed) But for just an extra 1 point on average... I'll bend that rule.

So the bottom line is that you can select another feat, but you need to add in a -2 to your to-hit.

Last thing... You wrote the rest of your weapons as though they were Medium sized not small. Is this the case? If so, you need to add the -2 to each of those as well.

Male Gnome Barbarian/1

Oookay.. think I got it now.

Sorry... One more thing. Since you're axe and your sickle are both 2-handed, you add 1 1/2 times your strength to damage. So it should be a +4 (rounded down).

Hey Traphter, I just now discovered that they got rid of the rage points with the actual release of PF. And looking over the Barbarian rage powers and how they work, I think it was definitely for the worst. Should be interesting to see how he plays out compared to the Ranger and the Monk.

Male Gnome Barbarian/1

We'll see. It didn't seem too bad looking over it. Even if he's not very affective hopefully he'll add some flavor to the group.

I think you mean "effective." :)

Male Gnome Barbarian/1

Of course... Mr. Smartypants. Geeze. ;)

Well it looks like we're just waiting for our last two.

taps foot impatiently

Mandy, well the rules that I came up with for a half-merfolk are as follows.

Half-Merfolk:

+2 to any 1 stat
Medium: Half-Merfolk are medium creatures.
Normal Speed: Land speed of 30 ft.
Aquatic: Can breathe underwater, 20 ft swim speed
Low-Light Vision: All merfolk have low-light vision.
Merfolk Blood: Count as Merfolk for all purposes
Weapon Familiarity: All Half-Merfolk are proficient with the Trident.
Languages: Merfolk begin play speaking Common and Aquan. Half-Merfolk with high Intelligence scores can choose any language.

Male Dwarf Monk 1

Seems a little under-powered when compared to the other Half-races...

Let us not underestimate the benefits of water breathing and a swim speed. Especially in a campaign that takes place on and around water almost in it's entirety.

Still, if you have suggestions I'm willing to hear them. But for now just go off of what I've put down, Mandy.

Well I've gone ahead and started the Savage Tide In Character board. Most everyone is either done, or mostly done and it'll be a while before we're really making any kind of critical rolls. So y'all can finish your sheets as we go, but there's no reason we can't start with the RP.

So go Here!

And put in your first post. Please try to describe your character's appearence and what s/he is/has been doing when the game starts. Eventually I'd like to know what you did to get some attention in a city like Magnimar, but I can wait on that.

So go knock yourselves out... and welcome to the Savage Tide!

I'm not saying that its not useful. I'm just saying that when compared to the other half's they seem to get a bit more...

I'll look over it and them when I'm not on 12's

Soooooo... When pigs and cows are having sky races? :)

I'm sorry to jump in on this. I normally don't post in others games once they are started, but I just saw the in-character thread of this game and noticed that you are not that far along. I've wanted to play in a STAP or marine heavy campaign for a long time now, so figured i would just like to say that if you have room for another, or if one player jump out of this, i'm more than willing to play that spot.

If you want to see how my playing style is look at these games
I play Vhorun in this drow campaign
http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/community/gaming/playByPost/ravsDrowAd ventures

And Nadeq in this Slumbering Tsar game
http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/community/gaming/playByPost/mortikaRun sSlumberingTsarPFRPG&page=10

I'm willing to play any type of character, but for this i will probably swashbuckle it up for the setting and make a background connected to the ocean (some sort of pirate or privateer, depending on the game style).

Anyway, I hope you'll consider it and post a reply. And no matter what; good game to all of you.

Sorry it's taken me long to post. I'm not done with the character profile though. Once I get done, I'll post it on my profile. This avatar is the closest I can get to how she looks overall. Paizo has such a vast selection of avatars, right? :P lol

Thanks for the interest! We already have all we need for this campaign but I'll certainly keep you in mind if anyone drops.

You're still one step ahead of James. :)

I actually like the avatar, none of them are ever perfect, that's why I wanted people to post a description in their first post. And as I said before, feel free to post without having a fully finished sheet. It's all RP for now.

Male Dwarf Monk 1

Are there any Campaign Traits for Savage Tide?

Nope. Savage tide is pre-Pathfinder. It came out over 12 issues of Dungeon Magazine. This is why I'm letting you take three traits, to make up for the lack of a campaign trait.

Male Dwarf Monk 1

Ok, I'll rummage through what I have.

p.s. I'm in location now.

Male Gnome Barbarian/1

Traphter was going to be fashionably late, but due to circumstances beyond his control he will be early. By out of his control I mean he is being chased by one ugly and angry man. By circumstances I mean getting caught slipping out the man's bedroom window.

It's really not his fault. The women just can't get enough of his boyish good looks. The husbands should really be more understanding.

Male Gnome Barbarian/1

Indeed! Besides.. it was just innocent conversation.

I almost got my stuff done, so you can double check my profile. I'm planning on posting the background/ description after hw. Also, I forgot how to figure out my weapon attack bonus for like the 6th time. lol. Oooo, I also want to know what I should do as far as holy symbols and channeling energy goes. Draenia is a neutral character, and I read that she could either channel positive or negative energy. I was wondering what I should do. On one hand, the negative would be cool for rping the whole opposite look. However, on the other hand, it souds like it would be a little less useful to the group whenever Draenia comes out. Keep in mind that I don't plan on her personality showing up more than Sirena's. I'd like some input. :)

Sweet! Good to hear you're almost done. First off, here's what I found on your sheet. Don't worry, it's mostly in your favor.

1. Your HP should be 8 not 7. Max points for 1st lvl. On that note however. You get +1 HP or Skill Point every level you go up in your favored Class. You choose which at 1st and this can't be changed. You didn't pick this yet.

2. You still have 2 points to spend on stats. You bought 3 15s. That's 21 points. Then a 12, that's 2 points. For a total of 23 out of 25 points. On that note, you might want to drop your Int to 14 and raise your Dex. That'll help your AC and how easy it is to hit with ranged touch attacks.

3. You might want to show how many Channel Energy's you have.

4. You might want to put down your 1st lvl Domain powers.

5. Lastly, it looked like you were indicating that her body and hair change color when her personality does. We hadn't talked about this before, I'm wondering if that's what you were intending.

As for Holy Symbols, that is a good question since you need the proper one to cast spells. My first instinct is to say that you have two. One obvious one that she uses most of the time, and another of Calistria that is hidden on her somewhere only that personality knows about. However this could become problematic so I might come up with another idea latter.

As for Channeling energy the simplest answer is just to channel Positive with both personalities. I think this fits best with what we were talking about too.

Hope this helps.

Really? I thought we did. I'm sorry. That is what I was intending to do. Inspiration from cuttlefish. lol

Here's a good video of some changing colors (children appropriate):

Aren't there just positive energy and negative energy? So wouldn't I just have one? Am I missing something???

Sorry... I meant how many per day you have. I believe it's 3+Cha.
