Can an animal companion wear armor, and if so, where are the rules for this? The companion is a Cat, Small, (Cheetah, Leopard).
Yes.
There's no rule that says they can't, and only implications that they can.
Animals would be 'untrained' and take penalties accordingly (so stick to leather/studded) OR they may take Proficiency in the Armour (it's on their allowed Feat list).
The Armour would either be Barding (for horses etc) or in your case, bought from Table 6-8 and basically be 2xCost 1/2Wt.
As a SIDE note, we had this in our campaign as well, and the deal was that a Druid wouldn't do it (taking the animal well away from its natural 'state') but a Ranger might.

You should also look at the feats available to an animal companion, in the druid description pages. It lists Armor Proficiency (light, medium, heavy).
I would require any player who wanted their animal companion to wear armor to have the companion take the necessary feats.

Sorry, shameless plug ... :)
Just head over to koboldquarterly.com and then click on the Articles link on the left. Scroll down maybe 5 or 6 articles and you're there.
Or you could just buy a PDF copy of issue 11 (the one with the Spell-less Ranger). The PDF includes the Animal Companion / Ranger Tracking sheet I designed to go along with the article.
Hope that helps!
