Mass Effect 2

I freaking love this game. Even though Mass Effect was great, the sequel imo just blows it out of the water. It seems like every one of my crew members wants to jump Shepard's bones, which is kind of weird. The only person that hasn't hinted at it is Grunt and I'm not even at the end of the game so there may even be a secret Krogan love connection out of freaking nowhere.

Liberty's Edge

Played and beat it twice with my favorite character from Mass Effect 1. Paragon/Renegade bars are a maximum. Mother of God, I think I'm failing English 102 Composition because of this game.

Don't worry. In space, no one can hear your grammar.

So, I am level 26, 55 points short of level 27 and I am about the use the Omega 4 Mass Relay, I am worried there is not enough game left to get level 30. From what I can tell I have gotten all the side quests, I may have missed one that gave 40 exp.

Anyone know if I am still good to go through the relay and still get level 30?

You can't make it to level 30 on a single playthrough. You have to import your existing character and play through a second time to make it. You will probably gain 1 level after going through the relay and then, that's the end of the game.

Sovereign Court

I made it to Level 30 shortly after the end of the game. I didn't start a second playthrough, I just kept playing and hit up some N7 assignments. I will note that I imported a 60th level character, so I started ME2 at level 5, did every single loyalty mission, had Zaeed and the Normandy Crash Site downloaded and did those too.

You can check a list of the assignments, including all the N7 ones here. Naturally there are some spoilers.

If you can that would be awesome, one thing I hated about ME 1 was that when you finished the game you could not continue, so if you wanted to play a later released DLC you had to start over.

I imported a level 50 from ME 1, started at 3rd level. I think I have all the side quests, will double check, but I think I have them all.

Yes. Probably. But not necessarily.

You absolutely can continue playing after you finish the game. You can also import any save after your beat the game, not just the state of your character directly afterward. Useful if you still have unresolved missions, but you don't get to keep the upgrades you researched.

You can if your whole party isn't killed in the suicide mission, that is.

Spoiler:
Shepard needs to be alive after the end of the main plot to continue playing.

SUPER SPOILER:

Spoiler:
At least one of the two team members you take with you on the final mission must survive (which means they must be loyal to you) in order for Shepard to survive.

That stuff I knew, accidently read it somewhere, still did not know that I could continue with Side Missions, which also should mean I can do future DLC without starting over!

Oh, okay, cool.

Yep, you have free reign over the galaxy as long as Shepard is around to enjoy it.

Love ME1 and 2.... I am on my 3rd play through to see the different stuff (such as the default Shepard choices that I didn't make)...
Playthrough Spoilers:

Spoiler:
First was a Female Paragon Vanguard, romanced Liara in ME1 and never chose a new person. All team survived.
Second playthrough was Male Renegade Sentinel. Romanced Ashley in the first game, and Miranda in the second... In hindsight should have went with Tali... she's awesome. Also had Morinth instead of Samara. Again all team survived.

My newest playthrough actually aims to lose some characters....

I also agree that a few things I would have liked different are:

  • More variety of weapons and armor, especially more varied civilian threads.
  • New gear for my team outside of "I found a new shotgun everyone gets one!"
  • More time with ME1 characters who don't feature as playables. Especially if they were love interests. I just feel they get not enough involvement in the story for everything they did in the first one. It's like, "I know we saved the universe and all and the villians are still out there but I have this little personal issue bug up my butt so I can't do anything about saving the galaxy". Way to be a hero jerk.
  • Versatility in your companions. I know they each have their unique unlockable power, but with such a shallow skill pool they need to be different some other way. They basically have the same overlap in abilities and weapons to the point that I almost don't care who I have with me they fight the same for the most part.

Still awesome game....

I don't know, if you're an optimizer like me party makeup makes a big differance. Also try playing from level 1 on Insanity.... While there may not be right party choices there are definatly worng ones. I had to restart an N7 mission because I picked the wrong anti-robot team setup. Tryed it with Maranda and Garrus for Overload overlap, worked fairly well back on normal with my tech Shepard... wrong combo backing up a soldier Shepard on that difficulty. I had to switch to Zaeed and Grunt. Darn infiniate spawn points.

This game makes me want to run d20 Future again (heavly modified by 3rd party books).

Havent played on insanity, just normal... So I figure that probably would make team choices important.

I also am looking to do d20 future now more than ever thanks to this game.... I have a thread about it in the d20 section.... :P

Took me a week, scouring the galaxy for quests where ever I could find them. Still only hit level 27 at the end in normal mode. Still so glad to have finished this brilliant game.

Spoiler:
Jet Shepherd. Human Vanguard 27. Known relationships: Liara, Miranda. Against All Odds, No Man Left Behind. Can't wait for the sequel.

Speaking of which, does anyone know if there are any sort of negative repercussions for endorsing every store on the citadel?

Not that I ever Noticed

Maybe it'll be an issue in ME3 if you import :-D.

Silver Crusade

Got sick as sin this week and spent some of the recuperation time finishing ME2.

Hot damn.

I love this series. If there was a way to push it into my gaming Holy Trinity of Zelda, Half-Life, and Castlevania, I would. I might have to rework the cosmology to give it the place it deserves.

Shepard status:

Spoiler:
Jiana Shepard
Female Adept, Full Paragon
Colonist/Sole Survivor
Lost Kaiden on Virmire
Saved Wrex
Spared the Rachni
Romanced Liara, remained faithful throughout ME2*
Full crew in ME2, all loyal
Killed Morinth
Rewrote the heretic Geth
Sent Tali through heating vents, Miranda led second squad
Sent Tali back with rescued Normandy crew, Yeoman Chambers saved, Garrus leads firing squad
Took Garrus and Jack into the final battle
No one left behind, full crew survived final mission
Told the Illusive Man to kiss my Neutral Good ass, blew up the Collector's base
Rocking the galaxy
Getting drunk off my ass on ryncol
Still a horrible dancer

*Admittedly, Tali being romancable by male Shepards only helped in that area.

So much more to say, so little time.

NPC stuff

Spoiler:

I really loved the cast in this. Even if Jacob and Miranda were my personal "boring options" like Kaiden and Ashley before, they still had their moments. Honestly the only character that never truly clicked with me was NotWrex, and part of that was me being unfair with him for not being Wrex.

I was really surprised how quickly this installment turned Garrus into one of my favorites, especially after I spent much of the first game chiding him for playing Cowboy Cop. Him being a familiar friendly face amidst all the crap going on in ME2 probably helped there. And Tali, well, is still Tali, no explanation needed there.

Seriously though, most of those loyalty missions just left you wanting to hug your crew. I mean, damn. I'm actually starting another playthrough with a male Shepard just because they can continue to rehabilitate Jack.

Also, really have to give this game props for managing some tricky conlicting emotion manipulation, such as during Mordin's loyalty quest. I had really been laying into him about the genophage before and during the mission, and then to see how much it was really affecting him...excellent writing and acting there, Bioware crew.

Heck, the game even made me more curious about Nihlus after hearing Samara's story about him.

Also, Legion is Albert Wesker himself?! @#$% YEAH.

But that's just my opinion, no need to spread it around.

A damn funny game on top of everything else too. Some examples being:

Overhearing Joker's porn feed.

Garrus: Hospitals are no fun to fight in.
Shepard: Where IS fun to fight, Garrus?
Garrus: Gardens. Electronics shops. Antique stores, but only if they're classy.

Eavesdropping on the friend-zoned turian and valley girl quarian or the bachellor party in Eternity.

Elcor Hamlet.

Hanarsploitation movies.

Quarians from the Defranz or Iktomi.

THE SONG

I really have to wonder if players going Renegade are getting as full an experience as Paragons though, especially considering how

Spoiler:
the Rachni explicitly say they've got your back when the Reapers come, and it looks like you'll have the Geth on your side as well after ME2. AND possibly the majority of the Krogan on Tuchanka after Mordin and Grunt's loyalty missions, since Wrex's biggest rivals are out of the way and it seems a true cure for the genophage is in the works. You're making some very formidable allies if you go Paragon with the choices regarding those races, where Renegade seems to leave you with, well, Cerberus.

Oh yeah, and what was up with

Spoiler:
that awkward "uh, are you going to kiss me or is there something in my nose" bit with the green Asari from Zhu's Hope once you've handled her problem? Did that happen with everyone or is there some strange, esoteric criteria one must meet for that to happen? (I mean, sure MY Shepard is a bit of a asari fangirl, but not everyone's Shepard would be)

And holy crap, that whole part where

Spoiler:
you're controlling a very weak, fragile, and hobbling Joker during the Collector raid on the Normandy had me unintentionally repeating his lines just because of the sheer helplessness you felt during that sequence. That was an amazing little bit to throw in, and it was what finally sold me on trusting EDI.

Okay, done gushing for the moment.

Wait, no I'm not.

One more conversation overheard in Illium was downright heartwrenching.

Spoiler:
The asari "teenager" and her salarian stepfather out shopping. Oh God. You can hear her nearly crack at the end. The krogan on Tuchanka talking about a kid that may ore may not be his son really got me too.
Man, I love this setting.

edit, again. If you haven't done it yet, head to the Local Cluster. You know, the Sol System. Than do some scanning on Uranus, even if it is depleted.

DO IT.

Oh, and

Spoiler:
taking on that Thresher Maw at closer quarters than you'd normally think of trying in ME1. That was a real treat for someone who took Sole Survivor. I only wish my Shepard had said something about it. Or at least EATEN IT'S DAMNED WORM HEART @#$%ING THRESHER MAWS KILLED MY SQUAD FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Hey, I like to think my Shepard has a bit of a Captain Ahab thing going with the Thresher Maw species after Akuze.

I also think I may have killed myself with the Cain more than any single type of enemy ever managed. Some nasty blast radius on that thing.

Oh, and uh....all my fish died the same day I

Spoiler:
had my rough reunion with a very upset-about-me-being-with-Cerberus Ashley Williams. What a crappy day.

Furthermore, I swear I never beat so many hostiles to death in the first game. In this, I've been nutting up, rushing in, and pistol-whipping perps ranging from vorcha to krogan, sometimes without the benefits of slapping them with a singularity beforehand. Tactically unsound, but therapeutic.

Also, whoa, just realized this as I'm going through ME1 again. Jenkins and

Spoiler:
the kid on Omega that you can keep from getting himself killed are voiced by the same guy. Awesome parallels there: The first young soldier to die under your command(in-game) and a dumb kid with a similar helping of foolhardiness, only you can actually save the latter.

Oh! And remember that asari commando Wrex tells you about in ME1? The one that he had an extended fight with that ended with both of them surviving?

Spoiler:
Aria?!

Silver Crusade

Oh snap. You remember the ship

Spoiler:
the Ardat-Yakshi escapes from Illium in? Its name, the Demeter, is the same as the ship that brings Dracula to England in Bram Stoker's novel!

ARGH!!!! even with all the DLCs you still can't finish the game at max level without importing a 60 level from Mass Effect 1. That is pissing me off!
